1 OFFLINE ACTIVATION Your Avizo 8.1 and Amira 5.6 products ( FEI software ) can be run on a system without an internet connection. To activate their licenses, you will need to use offline activation. For offline activation you need to have access to a computer with an internet connection. Different commands are used for activating node-locked licenses (see section 1) and floating licenses on a license server (see section 9). 1. Download the offline utilities On a computer with an internet connection, download the archive containing the utilities corresponding to your platform: 2. On the computer on which you are installing your FEI software Prerequisite: under Linux and Mac OS X, please check that the folder /usr/local has write permission for activating, deactivating or upgrading licenses. a. Extract the utilities from the compressed file you downloaded, in a folder (for example Offline). b. On Windows: Open a command prompt: On Mac OS X: Open a terminal:

2 On Linux: Open a terminal. c. Please type cd FolderName (for example cd Offline) Under Linux and Mac OS X only, add the current directory to your library path by entering the following command (where <PathToOfflineDirectory> must be replaced by the explicit path to the Offline directory): Linux bash: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=<PathToOfflineDirectory>:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH Linux csh: setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH <PathToOfflineDirectory>:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH Mac OS X bash: export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=<PathToOfflineDirectory>:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH Mac OS X csh: setenv DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH <PathToOfflineDirectory>:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH AppFNOODActivation -a ACTIVATIONCODE PRODUCT -offline FILE.XML (words in red must be updated according to your own data) For example, if your activation code is ABCD-EFGH-IJKL-MNOP Avizo_8.1 and you want to save the request in a file Request.XML, enter AppFNOODActivation -a ABCD-EFGH-IJKL-MNOP Avizo_8.1 -offline Request.XML $ > cd offline $ >./AppFNOODActivation -a ABCD-EFGH-IJKL-MNOP Avizo_8.1 offline Request.XML Request written to request.xml You can request several activations in the same file: AppFNOODActivation -a ACTIVATIONCODE1 PRODUCT1 -a ACTIVATIONCODE2 PRODUCT2 -a ACTIVATIONCODE3 PRODUCT3 -offline FILE.XML Warning: in case the activation code you have received contains an hostid information (generally, a 12 characters code), you must remove this hostid from the command line. For instance, if your activation code is ABCD-EFGH-IJKL-MNOP 0019b Avizo_8.1, remove the 0019b characters from the activation code given as parameter of the AppFNOODActivation command. d. Copy the XML file to a USB key and transfer to a computer with an internet connection.

3 3. On a computer with internet access Go to: Select the XML file as below: Click on Process. The response xml file is automatically downloaded as activation.xml. Save it on your USB key. 4. On the computer on which you are installing your FEI software Back in the command prompt/terminal: AppFNOODActivation -response <ResponseXMLPath>/activation.xml The activation is processed. 5. Upgrading your licenses When a new version of an FEI Software application is released, you will need to upgrade your activated licenses in order to run this new release. Example: You have initially activated Amira 5.6 licenses, and have received the Amira 6.0 upgrade. After installing the Amira 6.0 version on each client system, perform the following operation: 1. Open a command prompt/terminal in the directory where you have extracted the FlexNet offline tools archive. 2. Run AppFNOODActivation -v. 3. Copy all fulfillment IDs.

4 4. Enter AppFNOODActivation -u <FulfillmentID> <VersionToUpgrade> -offline <File.xml>. For example: AppFNOODActivation -u offline request.xml In case you have several activation codes, you can request several upgrades in the same file: AppFNOODActivation -u <FulfillmentID1> <VersionToUpgrade> -u <FulfillmentID2> <VersionToUpgrade> -u <FulfillmentID3> <VersionToUpgrade> -offline <File.xml> 5. Copy the XML file to a USB key and transfer to a computer with an internet connection. 6. Follow the procedures described in sections 3 and Re-activating your renewable licenses FEI Software can be sold as yearly renewable subscriptions. In this case, delivered licenses are timelimited and will expire, usually after one year. Upon expiration, each client application will not be able to run anymore. In order to re-activate these licenses (assuming that the subscription has been renewed), you have to upgrade them to the same version number. Please perform the following steps: 1. Open a command prompt/terminal in the directory where you have extracted the FlexNet offline tools archive. 2. Run AppFNOODActivation -v. 3. Copy all fulfillment IDs. 4. Enter AppFNOODActivation -u <FulfillmentID> <SameVersionNumber> -offline <File.xml>. For example: AppFNOODActivation -u offline request.xml

5 In case you have several activation codes, you can request several reactivations in the same file: AppFNOODActivation -u <FulfillmentID1> <SameVersionNumber > -u <FulfillmentID2> <SameVersionNumber> -u <FulfillmentID3> <SameVersionNumber> -offline <File.xml> 5. Follow the procedures described in sections 3 and Deactivating your licenses Should you want to transfer some or all of your FEI Software licenses onto a different computer, you can de-activate some or all of your activated licenses. 1. Open a command prompt/terminal in the directory where you have extracted the FlexNet offline tools archive. 2. Run AppFNOODActivation -v. 3. Copy all fulfillment IDs. 4. Enter AppFNOODActivation -r <FulfillmentID> -offline <File.xml>. For example: AppFNOODActivation -r offline request.xml In case you have several activation codes, you can request several deactivations in the same file: AppFNOODActivation -r <FulfillmentID1> -r <FulfillmentID2> -r <FulfillmentID3> -offline <File.xml> 5.
