1 Peoria Unified School District Dual Enrollment Program The Dual Enrollment college course is provided through collaboration of Glendale Community College (GCC) and Sunrise Mountain High School. This course is governed by policies and procedures of GCC and Maricopa County Community Colleges District (MCCCD). RECOMMENDED SUPPLIES: Flash Drive COURSE DESCRIPTION: Game Design & Development is an introduction to game design, game development and game theory. Students will us appropriate gaming platform and windows development tools to model real-time simulations, to create computer games and to produce educational software. Game design & development builds on fundamental skills and concepts covered in previous courses and provides a foundation for further study. Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) standards will be an integral part of this class. Dual credit (CIS151-3 college credits) may be obtained from the Maricopa Community College system for this program at high schools offering this option.

3 1. Students must achieve a grade of 60% or higher as a final course grade. 2. Students must meet prerequisite criteria listed in the High School Course Offering and Description Guide. GRADING BREAK-DOWN Unit and aligned checks for understanding including: Homework, class participation, skill assessments and quizzes % of course grade 40% Major unit assessments and projects 40% Course Assessment 20% ATTENDANCE: In order to receive credit for the term, 90% attendance is required in each assigned class (ARS B). Classes missed due to school approved activities, e.g., field trips, performing groups, student government, etc., are excluded. Administrators are authorized to excuse additional absences for extended illness, injury or extenuating circumstances upon satisfactory verification. In such cases, to receive credit, students are expected to make up missed work in a timely manner. Should a student accumulate 5 unverified or 10 total absences in a semester class or 3 unverified or 5 total absences in a term, credit may be withheld. PERSONAL CONDUCT: The class environment should be a positive learning environment. Instructors are expected to be professional, courteous, respectful and empathetic to students by: Begin and end class on time Be prepared for each class session Provide academic feedback and grade assignments in a timely manner Be available for individual consultation Clarify assignments and inform students of any adjustments to class schedule Help is available to you if needed. 4 ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT: Academic Misconduct includes cheating, conspiring to cheat, soliciting to cheat, attempting to cheat, plagiarism, fabrication on an assignment, or other forms of dishonest presentation. Posting assessments, soliciting assessment answers and the unauthorized acquisition of assessments, assessment answers, or other academic materials is cheating. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the use of paraphrase or direct quotation of published or unpublished work of another person without full and clear acknowledgement. It also includes the unacknowledged use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged in the selling or sharing of term papers or other academic materials. Information gathered from the Internet and not properly identified is also considered plagiarism. Students are expected to produce his/her original work. CIVILITY: The faculty of Sunrise Mountain High School places a high value of importance on the general ethical standards of academic behavior and expects that the communication between students and instructors or among students shall maintain a level of formality and mutual respect appropriate to any teaching/learning environment. MAKE UP WORK POLICY: Make up work is defined as any assignments or tests students need to complete due to an excused absence. Students will be allowed the same amount of days equal to the number of excused absent days to make up assignments for full credit. LATE WORK POLICY: Late work is defined as any work completed and turned in after a designated due date. Work becomes late when an absence is unexcused, for truancy or when a student turns in assignments after the equal number of days allowed for excused absences. Late work will be accepted up to the day prior to the last day of the grade-in progress period (each 4 ½ weeks). Students will receive a grade equal to 50% of the grade the student would have originally earned if the assignment was turned in on the actual due date. STUDENT SERVICES: The Peoria District provides special education services for students from all categories of special education. All of our students with disabilities are educated in the least restrictive educational setting in which they can be successful. The most appropriate program and services for each student is determined by the student's IEP (Individualized Education Program) team. Parents are strongly encouraged by the Peoria District to actively participate in the process as important IEP team members.
