Help us to build accommodation for relatives and new facilities for rehabilitation patients, through our Home from Home appeal.
Home from Home for patients... Caring for patients as they recover from a major injury or illness requires specialised treatment and the very best facilities. The Home from Home Appeal will fund extra equipment and therapy gardens in an expanded and improved, specialised rehabilitation unit, with 30 beds. The rehabilitation unit will be housed in the ground floor of our new building. helping patients like Chris Chris Marshall, of Shrewsbury, underwent life saving surgery at The Walton Centre after suffering a major brain bleed. He spent seven months in the Trust s neuro rehabilitation unit and can now walk again, although with some difficulty. Chris, (pictured right) a former performing arts student who previously enjoyed walking and mountain biking, walked up Snowdon in a charity challenge, along with another former patient, Mike Jones. He said: I m determined to keep walking and exercising and I wanted to show people you must never give up, and that with good rehabilitation and effort there can still be hope for the future after an acquired brain injury. Providing the best equipment and facilities is so important to good rehabilitation treatment and I urge everyone to support this fantastic appeal for The Walton Centre.
Home from Home for relatives... With your help, we will build a home from home for relatives who want to stay near to loved ones undergoing lifesaving treatment in our Liverpool hospital. It will include eight, ensuite bedrooms with a sitting area and kitchen, giving visitors the comforts of home to support them through traumatic times. This will be part of a new, three-storey building which will enable a major expansion of The Walton Centre, scheduled for completion at the end of like the Adam Bell family When 27 year old Adam Bell was admitted to The Walton Centre s Critical Care Unit, his girlfriend, family and friends kept a constant vigil at his bedside or in one of the hospital s visitors rooms. Adam suffered from a rare condition, cerebral vasculitis, or inflammation of the blood vessels, which led to a brain haemorrhage. Sadly, Adam died after spending two days in the unit. Since that time, an appeal fund has been set up in his name and tens of thousands of pounds have been donated to the Trust. Girlfriend Helen O Carroll said: It was a terrible time for us and all we could do was be near him and comfort each other. We snatched what sleep we could in the visitors room but it wasn t easy. A proportion of the money raised since Adam s death has been used to buy additional bedding and fold out chairs for relatives like us to use, but it s not ideal. We are fully behind the Home from Home Appeal, because we know how important it is for relatives to stay near to someone seriously ill in Critical Care. I would urge everyone to help The Walton Centre reach its 1 million target to build the relatives rooms.
A new centre for patients and relatives This is an architect s impression of how our new, three storey building will look. It is being built on land just a short walk from our main hospital and will be ready by the end of The relatives accommodation will form a wing on the second floor, with a living room and kitchen and ensuite facilities for all eight bedrooms. The ground floor of the building will house an expanded, state of the art, specialised rehabilitation unit, with a 30-bed ward, gym, gardens and facilities for a range of therapies. This is replacing the current 20-bed Neuro Rehabilitation Unit which is in urgent need of modernisation. We can only provide the relatives accommodation and extra enhancements to the rehabilitation facilities through our charity, which is why we need your support for our Home from Home Appeal. Trust Chairman Ken Hoskisson said: Our Trust serves a very wide population in the North West and North Wales, with many more patients coming to us from all over the country. I would like to urge all our supporters to help us provide these much needed facilities, to benefit patients and their families.
How you can help We need to raise 1 million to build the relatives accommodation and the extra rehabilitation facilities, by the end of Please help us to make a big difference to the experience of our patients and their families.
