2 FIRE PUMPS ZIEGLER fire fighting centrifugal pumps - proven high quality ZIEGLER fire pumps are powerful and wear-resistant centrifugal pumps, single or dual stage types, rugged, designed for dirty water, safe to operate and require very low maintenance. The simple functional construction, the easily legible gauges and the automatic engagement, priming and pressure control systems make the pump operation easy. Due to their design characteristics the ZIEGLER fire pumps can be adapted to foreign standards without problems. ZIEGLER fire pumps are made of highquality materials. The pump casing, diffusor, impellers and pump cover are of sea-water resistant light alloy. The pump shaft and split rings are made of stainless steel. Shaft sealing is by means of radial shaft sealing rings in an exchangeable sealing sleeve. The delivery outlets feature self-closing globe valves and ball valves in compliance with DIN-standard. The capacity of a built-in vehicle pump depends on the rpm and power of the vehicle engine, arrangement of the pump unit as well as the conditions under which water is fed to the pump. The pump charts on the following pages show performance curves measured under DIN requirements. ZIEGLER rear mounted pumps - rugged, powerful, extensible and of matured construction ZIEGLER fire pumps for rear or midship mounting are available with performances of 75 up to l/min, suited for the power of the various vehicle engines. The rugged and neat construction makes our pumps reliable and permits an unobstructed and functional design of the vehicle pump bay, also in cases when complicated wiring and ducting systems are necessary, e.g. when a proportioning system or monitors are fitted. ZIEGLER fire fighting centrifugal pumps are powerful: they have a high water performance at pressures of bar and higher and through the connectable high-pressure pump a pressure of up to bar can be reached. ZIEGLER fire fighting centrifugal pumps are uncomplicated and easy to operate: The fully automatic priming system TROKOMAT PLUS simplifies the operation of the pump enormously. On engaging the pump, priming takes place by operating the throttle only. A button is pushed and the ZIEGLER ANS-system provides automatic engagement of the PTO. Our automatic constant pressure governor TOURMAT D facilitates the work of the operator. Any change of pressure is instantly sensed and the pump performance is adjusted accordingly within fractions of a second. Our flow-controlled foam concentrate proportioning system PROFOMAT delivers exactly the desired concentration and provides simultaneous delivery of water or foam at the outlets. Our modular operation and control system is designed and constructed for a modern extensive pump unit. The performances of the pumps comply with DIN EN table 3. The max. performance figures are values that are reached under optimum conditions on our pump test floor with the most simple water duct on suction and delivery side. The pictures on the following pages may show details/versions that are available at additional costs. The art. Nos. refer to the basic version of the various pumps only. DIRECTION OF ROTATION: All ZIEGLER fire pumps are available with clockwise or anticlockwise rotation. Terms: HL: Pump with anticlockwise rotation when looking at the pump cover. HR: Pump with clockwise rotation when looking at the pump cover. Pumps without gear multiplication: the pump direction of rotation and the rotation of the PTO flange are identical. Pumps with gear multiplication: the pump direction of rotation is opposite to the direction the PTO flange. Please note that all dimensions and weights noted in our catalogue are approximate values. 3 VEHICLE MOUNTED PUMPS MODULAR SYSTEM ZIEGLER fire pumps - modular system The renowned ZIEGLER pumps are not only available with various performance data. The fire pumps described on the following pages can be provided with various types of delivery outlets, with automatic engagement system and constant pressure control system as well as with various foam agent proportional systems. The ever increasing number of modern high-tech electronic plants increases the need for a fire fighting technology that keeps the secondary water damage as low as possible. To this effect we deliver our fire pumps already equipped for retrofitting a high-pressure pump. The well-proven and continuously improved ZIEGLER 3-stage highpressure pump is connected to the running normal-pressure pump via an electromagnetic clutch. The impellers of the HP-pump are not coupled to the shaft of the normal-pressure pump, i.e. they are not running when the normal-pressure pump is in operation. This reduces the wear to a minimum and permits a relatively easy retrofit. The operation of the high-pressure pump is simple: When the connection line between normal-pressure pump and highpressure pump is opened, the electromagnetic clutch is actuated. Now open the delivery outlet to highpressure reel. A thermal relief line to the tank prevents overheating in case the water delivery is interrupted. The unit can be operated in the following ways: Normal-pressure pump operation (HP-pump is not running) High-pressure pump operation (normal-pressure pump in circuit) Combined pump operation (both pumps are running) 3

5 PRIMING SYSTEM TROKOMAT PLUS TROKOMAT PLUS the automatic priming system that sets standards. Design and mode of operation: The ZIEGLER TROKOMAT PLUS is a modern reciprocating priming pump that carries out the priming action fully automatically, thus simplifying the pump operation to a minimum. The TROKOMAT PLUS operates without any auxiliary fluids such as water or oil. The TROKOMAT PLUS is switched on and off hydraulically by means of water pressure and no other control is required. The automatic process is carried out by very few parts (pic. 1): this makes the TROKOMAT PLUS reliable and increases its durability. Even at low engine rpm the TROKOMAT PLUS starts the suction action. This reduces wear on the engine, especially when starting from cold. The fully automatic priming system TROKOMAT PLUS consists of two completely separately working short-stroke reciprocating pumps. The pistons are pressed by a spring against an eccentric pump shaft. If the pump is engaged, the rotating eccentric pump shaft presses the pistons alternatively outwards. During this action air is drawn in from the suction line and housing. The springs press the pistons back towards the eccentric shaft. At the same time the intake air is compressed and routed to the atmosphere (pic. ). The water entering into the primed pump overcomes the spring pressure and thus disengages the pistons from the eccentric shaft. TROKOMAT PLUS switches off (pic. 3). If the pump pressure drops, the springs press the pistons against the eccentric shaft again and the priming resumes. The pump operator simply has to engage the pump and open the throttle. A further essential advantage: We install the ZIEGLER TROKOMAT PLUS in all vehicle fire pumps and in all portable pumps from type TS 5/ onwards, i.e. in all these types of pumps TROKOMAT PLUS parts and functions are identical. Push button Gas +/- (manual adjustment) ANS/TOURMAT D with electronic injection EDC The pressure governor TOURMAT D (1) is an automatic pump pressure control for ZIEGLER centrifugal fire pumps (3). Pressure fluctuations which may occur due to different water delivery, e.g. when connecting or disconnecting nozzles, are instantly sensed and immediately corrected. The desired pump pressure is set by means of a rotary knob (). The max. possible quantity of water is shown in the pump performance diagram. All controls are clearly arranged on the BKT (operation and control panel) (). Mode of operation: When the main switch (5) (option) and the pump ON button () are pressed, the PTO is engaged via the fully automatic ZIEGLER ANS system. Now the TOURMAT D electronic system can be activated by pressing the button Automatic (7). The preset pressure (rotary knob) () is compared with the pressure measured at the pump (9). If the pump pressure is less than 3 bar and the water head is not built-up or raptured respectively, suction is started. The electronic system switches over to rpm control and the optimum pump rpm for suction is set. The rpm sensor mounted on the pump flange () shows the actual value of the pump rpm. If the pressure of 3 bar is exceeded, the control circuit acts as pressure governor. If the pump pressure is lower or higher than the set pressure, the control circuit directly acts on the electronic speed adjustment of the vehicle () until the desired pressure is reached. If the automatic system (7) or the pump is switched off (), the rpm is automatically adjusted to idling. If the automatic system is in operation and one of the buttons rpm+/- (1) is pressed, the TOURMAT D (automatic) is switched off. The pressure adjustment is now done manually. To avoid operating errors the pump rpm can be changed only if the pump is engaged and the handbrake is actuated. This is also the case in emergency operations. Advantages: Due to the electronic system of TOURMAT D the pump operator does not need to check or adjust controls. The pressure is constant even if water delivery is changed.

7 AUTOMATIC PTO ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM ANS FREQUENCY GOVERNING SYSTEM TOURMAT F ANS system This is an electronic system for switching on the generator. By means of a push button all processes for switching on and off the generator run automatically. Irrespective of the standard PTO engagement system in the driver s cab the generator can be engaged in the generator box. Description of the PTO engagement system ANS: 3 EIN/AUS ANS and TOURMAT F with electronic injection pump TOURMAT F (1) is a fully automatic frequency governing system with a constant frequency - usually 5 Hz - for use with a built-in generator (7). The controls are mounted in the generator box (3). The push button () generator ON/OFF activates the electronic system, which automatically engages the PTO. The rpm sensor (5) in the PTO flange signals to the control that the generator is in operating condition. The frequency governor is now activated via the electronic rpm adjustment () of the vehicle. In this way a constant power supply is ensured even if the consuming devices are changed. In case of an emergency an alteration of the generator frequency can take place in the driver s cab in vehicles with electronic speed adjustment. 9 FOAM PROPORTIONING SYSTEM ZPV ZPV ZIEGLER pump proportioner ZPV is a proportioning unit that works on the ejector pump principle. The foam concentrate is drawn in and added to the water on the suction side of the pump. The quantity of foam concentrate is set by means of a dosage lever. ZIEGLER PVs are available in the following sizes: 5, 75,, 15,, 3,, 5 and l/min. Advantages (ejector pump principle): +thorough mixing +independent of counter-pressure +simple, reliable and low-priced proportioning system Disadvantages (ejector pump principle): -changes in volume of flow require manual resetting -when using water from a hydrant the delivery pressure must be.5 times higher -complete pump unit must be flushed -decrease of delivery performance due to by-pass line l/min 1. 10 FOAM PROPORTIONING SYSTEM ZPV MAD ZPV MAD ZIEGLER pump proportioner with a mechanic-automatic dosage unit The unit consists of a flow controlled proportioning governor and a proportioner. With this unit an automatic control of the quantity of foam concentrate is achieved. 3 different proportioning rates between 1 and % can be set. MAD reacts quickly on changes of flow and always delivers exactly the required quantity of foam concentrate to the ejector pump for maintaining the selected percentage of foam. 11 FOAM PROPORTIONING SYSTEM ZPV EAD ZPV EAD ZIEGLER pump proportioner with an electronic-automatic dosage unit The unit consists of a magneticinductive flow meter in the pressure line of the fire pump, a further magnetic-inductive flow meter as well as an electrically controlled dosage unit in the foam suction line of the pump proportioner. The foam concentrate is aspirated via a pump proportioner and fed into the suction line of the fire pump. A SPS controlling device evaluates the signals from the flow meters and adjusts the dosage unit in accordance with the preset proportioning rate. 12 FOAM PROPORTIONING SYSTEM PROFOMAT PROFOMAT The self-regulating pressure proportioning system The PROFOMAT pressure proportioning system is used for automatic and exact proportioning of foam concentrate over the full range of outgoing flows and pressures of water delivery by fire pumps. The PROFOMAT system consists of one or several proportioners, dosage unit with setting dial, pressure regulator, non-return valve to the foam tank and a foam concentrate pump. The proportioner/s is/are mounted on the delivery side of the pump. The delivery water flows through the proportioner/s. By means of the dosage unit the desired proportioning rate for the foam concentrate can be set manually or by remote control. The foam concentrate is pumped to the proportioner by the foam concentrate pump via a pressure regulator. The pressure of the foam concentrate must be at least bar higher than the corresponding delivery pressure. In the pressure regulator the difference between the water pressure and the foam concentrate pressure is mechanically controlled by means of a membrane. The foam concentrate flowing through the pressure regulator and the dosage unit is mixed to the delivery water via the proportioners at a preselected rate. Advantages/characteristics: a) Irrespective of the flow and pressure of the water delivered by the fire pump the proportioning rate remains constant as long as the pressure of the foam concentrate is at least bar higher than the water pressure. The performance of the fire pump and the foam concentrate pump must only meet the requirements of the largest consuming device (monitor). b) If necessary, a proportioner can be provided for each consuming device (delivery outlets, monitors, body/ ground protection unit etc.). In such cases the proportioner is designed for the max. delivery required. c) If individual proportioners are provided for each consuming device, they can, independed of each other, be fed with water or foam concentrate solution at variable proportioning rates, suitable for each consuming device. d) Continuous adjustment of the proportioning rate is possible. e) As no moving parts are used the system is resistant to wear and almost maintenance-free. The system can be used in all types of vehicle with a FPN or portable pump. We recommend vehicles with FPN and integrated tank. The system can be used with: TSF-W with TS /, vehicles with FPN - (e.g. LF /) up to FPN - (e.g. LF /1 or TLF 1). Foam delivery can take place via one or more hoses or a monitor. The performance of the compressor is 1 l/min at 7 bar. The proportioning is adjustable from. to % via a push button and adjusts automatically to the varying volume flows. The system is very clear and easy to operate. By pushing a button the unit, also during operation, can be switched over from water to CAFS action or the other way round. Simultaneous use of 3 size B nozzles with class A foam or 3 size C nozzles with compr.-air foam and the use of a monitor respectively is possible without problems. Other combinations such as water delivery via delivery outlets with size C hoses and simultaneous CAFS action with one outlet are also possible. All CAFS components are found in one and the same equipment locker. The system requires very little maintenance. In case of service the complete BKT (operating and control panel) can be swung to the side and all important parts are clearly shown. The unit is of such a low weight that it can be installed in every ZIEGLER LF /. The ZIEGLER Power Foam Basic NA can, from the performance spectrum point of view, be used in every vehicle with a FPN - or a FPN -. 20 HIGH PRESSURE EXTINGUISHING UNITS The principle Efficient fire fighting with optimum use of the extinguishing power of water. Through the fine atomization an almost complete vaporization of the water is reached. The oxygen concentration and the oxygen supply respectively is obstructed and an optimum cooling effect is obtained. Range of application The high pressure extinguishing device HDL is used when fighting fires of class A and B. For fires of class A (hard substances fires) the classical extinguishing agent water is predominantly used. Depending on requirement and situation a changeover to foam can take place through admixing of foam agent and the quick and easy engagement of the rapid intervention unit. Foam is an excellent medium for extinguishing fires of combustible liquids (fire class B) and prevents possible backfires at hard substances fires. Fire pump AWZ automatic water supply system Purpose: The purpose of the AWZ system is to supply the pump with water from a hydrant. It automatically feeds the pump with hydrant water, stopping the flow from the tank. A collecting head or transition piece at the suction inlet is not needed. Contraction of the hose when the throughput of water is too high is also prevented. Function: The system consists of two springloaded non-return valves. The valve (1) is placed in the tank suction line and has a very low opening pressure. The valve () is placed in a branch to the tank suction line, that ends between valve (1) and the pump. The valve () has a strong spring and is therefore not opened until the difference in pressure is 1 bar. Water supply from the tank: When water is supplied from the tank the valve (1) in the tank suction line opens. The valve () in the feed line from the hydrant remains closed due to the high spring tension. In this way no air is drawn in via the valve (). Water supply from hydrant: When the feed line from the hydrant is pressurized so that the water pressure in front of the valve () increases to 1.5 bar or above, the valve () opens and water flows from the hydrant into the tank suction line. Through this water flow excess pressure is built up in the tank suction line and the valve (1) closes. In this way there is an automatic switch-over from supply from the water tank to supply from the hydrant. Performance: The quantity of water fed via the AWZ system depends mainly on the capacity of the hydrant. The decisive factors are the nominal width and the existing water pressure. At a flow pressure of 1.5 bar to. bar in front of the valve () up to 1 l/min can be reached. 1
