7 ACADEMIC UPDATES College of Applied Science and Technology CAST.IllinoisState.edu Agriculture Agriculture.IllinoisState.edu The Agriculture Department is expecting an all-time high enrollment this fall. Job placement is exceptionally high in the industry. Information Technology IT.IllinoisState.edu Students are encouraged to complete equivalents for ENG 101, ENG 145, COM 110, prerequisite math for their desired major, and IAI 911 and 912 (preferably in Java) prior to transfer. Enterprise computing engineering major is no longer offered. College of Arts and Sciences CAS.IllinoisState.edu Communication Communication.IllinoisState.edu Last year the School of Communication launched the state-of-the-art Social Media Analytics Command Center (SMACC). The SMACC is a facility dedicated to studying social media analytics and strategy. Students, faculty, and researchers use the SMACC to identify public conversation from major social media platforms, popular discussion forums, and major blogs. Using specialized software, they can then analyze these conversations for key data such as top influencers, trending keywords and concepts, audience metrics, geographic location of posts, user sentiment, and how the share of voice works in the social web. The SMACC allows students in all communication majors to develop this key skill set that will make them more marketable upon graduation. Communication Sciences and Disorders CSD.IllinoisState.edu Speech pathology and audiology are no longer offered as separate majors. There is only one major at the undergraduate level communication sciences and disorders. It will encompass both fields of speech language pathology and audiology. Due to the competitive nature and space limitations of this program, transfer students should apply early. English English.IllinoisState.edu The Department of English now has a sequence in creative writing that consists of 46 hours where students can focus on writing fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or a combination of the genres. Mathematics Math.IllinoisState.edu/Actuary Actuarial Program is a Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE). As a CAE, we are one of the top 16 programs in the United States and ranked 26th in the world, as recognized by the Society of Actuaries. Our students enjoy a nearly perfect record of placement and, over the last three semesters, the starting salary of graduates has been approximately $60,000 per year. Women s and Gender Studies (minor) WGS.IllinoisState.edu The Dorothy E. Lee Scholarship and Grant Program awards promising women students 25+ years of age who are entering, transferring to, or returning to Illinois State University to continue studies toward a degree. Students can learn more about this scholarship on our website. College of Business Business.IllinoisState.edu Advance marketing analytics (a sequence option for marketing majors) and business analytics (a minor available to all Illinois State University students) are new curriculum additions beginning in the fall 2015 semester. These programs will provide students with an opportunity to gain deeper proficiency and comfort with data analysis. College of Education Education.IllinoisState.edu The state of Illinois has clarified the usage of ACT and SAT to include minimum scores on the writing portion. In order for any person to gain admission into a teacher preparation program, the student must have completed one of the following tests of basic knowledge: ACT with writing and have a minimum composite score of 22 and an English/Writing score of 19. Beginning September 1, 2017, the state of Illinois will change the licensure for elementary and middle-level teacher education majors. Any graduate after September 1, 2017, in elementary education will be licensed to teach grades 1 through 6. Students who complete the middle level teacher education major will be licensed to teach grades 5 through 8. Continued on back cover

The School of Art accepts articulation for studio fundamentals courses ART 103, 104, and 109 from institutions meeting IAI standards for these courses, and for individual courses reviewed and approved by the Evaluations Department and School of Art.
