4 College of Dental Medicine-Illinois Admissions To be eligible for enrollment: An applicant must earn a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university Possess a science (BCP) and cumulative GPA over 2.75* (although 3.20 will generally be competitively necessary) on a 4.00 scale. A bachelor's degree must be completed before starting the program.

Competitive exam scores on the Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) Scores in the area of 18 or higher will be expected for the Academic Average, Reading Comprehension, and Perceptual Ability sections Only DAT exam scores earned from tests taken no more than 3 years prior to matriculation are acceptable Two letters of recommendation One must be from either a pre-dental/pre-medical advisory committee or a science professor CDMI prefers other letters from either someone with a D.O./M.D. or D.D.S./D.M.D. degree and/or professionals who can testify to the integrity and ethical standards of the applicant

7 CDMI Curriculum Integrated basic, behavioral, and clinical sciences Preclinical simulation Lecture, small-group and case-based education Practical clinical dentistry Community clinical rotations In the first two years: CDMI s professional education will consist of dental medicine classroom instruction and laboratory work emphasizes anatomy, microbiology, biochemistry, physiology, clinical sciences, and laboratory techniques. During the last two years: Students will treat patients under the supervision of licensed dentists. Licensure is required for professional dental practice.

12 ELGIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE NURSING PROGRAM 77-CREDIT HOUR PROGRAM Approved by IDFPR and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) Upon completion, the student will receive an Associate Applied Science from Elgin Community College Graduates of the Nursing Program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) administered by the National Council State Board of Nursing Successful completion of this exam leads to certification (Licensure- Registered Nurse) Licensure is required for employment Graduates of ECC s Nursing Program consistently exceed state and national pass rates on this exam! 12

14 Overview of the Nursing Program Program Full time program with day or afternoon classes M-F; day, evening and some week-end clinicals All courses must be completed with a C or better Length of the Nursing Program 2 years (4 semesters) for RN

15 Admission & Residency 80 students admitted fall semester 40 students admitted spring semester Preference is given to legal residents of Community College District #509, students from other districts may be considered if space available.

17 Chemistry Requirement prior to application CHEMISTRY- must be completed within 10 years of applying with a grade of C or better Must have one of the following: One year of High School Chemistry (2 semesters) with a lab College Chemistry - CHM 101 or 112 Chemistry Proficiency Prerequisite for Chemistry Reading: Grade of C or better in RDG 091, an ACT Reading score of 18 or above, or an appropriate placement score. Math: Grade of C or better in MTH 098 or MTH 099, an ACT Math score of 23, or appropriate placement test score

19 Completed Nursing Admission Information Should include all of the following: Copy of Health Professions Application & receipt for $10 non-refundable payment Copy of an official evaluation of transcripts for the nursing program Copy of PSB-HOA scores Submit information in an envelope to: Student Records, Building B, Room 105 by the application filing date.

21 Admission Selection Process Screened and ranked based on: PSB-HOA composite score (30%) ACT score (if less than 2 years old) OR completion of 12 hours of nursing general education courses including A&P (30%) Science grades (30%) Number of required nursing general education classes completed (10%)

24 BSN PARTNERSHIP ECC has a partnership with NIU for the RN-BSN program. 26 Pharmacy Preparation Students can begin preparation for pharmacy doctoral programs in high school. AP classes that count towards undergraduate requirements: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, Stats, Economics, English Healthcare related work or volunteer experience. Job shadowing. Pharm Tech License when a student turns 18. High School Explorers at Midwestern and UIC. Roosevelt Pharmacy Lab Days and Pharmacy Camp. HS Students should look for dual admission or articulation agreements.

27 Pharmacy Preparation for Under-Grads Most Pharmacy Programs do not require a student to have earned a BS/BA for entrance into a doctoral program. However, the typical applicant to Pharmacy Doctoral programs will follow a Biology or Chemistry degree tract prior to applying to a PharmD. Under-Grads face a competitive application process: 22,000 applications for under 9,000 seats (aacp.com 2013)
