1 College of ngineering (Certification & on-teacher Certification ptions) Texas Common Course umbering ystem Transfer Guide Admission to the university does not guarantee admission to the College of ngineering. To be admitted to the College of ngineering, students must meet the requirements listed under Admission equirements on page two. To complete the degree within four years, students should plan to take Calculus (AT 2313 or 2413 or 2513) during the first semester of their freshman year and CC 2100 (available at UT only) during the first semester of their sophomore year. Please refer to the four-year plan on page three for a recommended schedule. tudents interested in completing an associate s degree at a community college may consult with a College of ngineering advisor about concurrent enrollment options. Courses ecommended for Transfer The UT Core requirements, with the exception of American istory and Government/Political cience, and the College & ajor requirements are shown with Texas Common Course umbering ystem values only when UT offers equivalent courses. There may be other courses in transfer that apply toward the specific degree requirement, but those listed are known to apply. UT Core: Communication GL 1301; and GL 1302 or 2311 A grade of 'C' or better is required on courses applied toward this requirement. GL 2311 is required for all College of ngineering majors. 2 College of ngineering (Certification & on-teacher Certification ptions) Texas Common Course umbering ystem Transfer Guide College of ngineering: Admission equirements Teacher Certification ption (continued) n addition to the university admission requirements, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements for admission to the College of ngineering: Freshman applicants must have a math AT score of 540 or better, or a math ACT score of 22 or better. Transfer applicants must be eligible to enroll in AT 1710 (Calculus ; TCC: AT 2313 or 2413 or 2513) or higher. AT 1650 (Pre-Calculus; TCC: AT 2312 or 2412) completed with a grade of C or better is a prerequisite to enroll in AT 1710/Calculus. f an applicant does not meet any of the above requirements, admission will be granted into an engineering preparatory program (Pre-ngineering) until the applicant completes AT 1650 (Pre- Calculus; TCC: AT 2312 or 2412) with a grade of C or better. College of ngineering foundation courses should be met prior to acceptance as a full major and/or enrollment in upper-division College of ngineering courses. tudents must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher in the following courses and laboratories with only grades of A, B, and C accepted: athematics: This course will also fulfill nformation Technology program requirements. TCC ptions: AT 2313 or 2413 or cience: Two courses including laboratories chosen from the list of approved courses; these courses will also fulfill nformation Technology program requirements. TCC ptions: C 1411 or 1311/1111; PY 2425 or 2325/2125. Technical Written Communication: This course will also partially fulfill the UT Core Communication requirement. TCC ption: GL Teacher Certification ption The College of ngineering offers the Bachelor of Arts degree with major in nformation Technology leading to certification in Computer cience. A minor in mathematics and science secondary teaching administered by Teach orth Texas is required for the certification in Computer cience. Teach orth Texas inor requirements: tudents must complete the required 22 hours for the minor in mathematics and science secondary teaching and meet all GPA requirements to apply for state certification. tudents should contact the Teach orth Texas program for more information on enrolling in the certification courses. o TCC options available for Teach orth Texas requirements. A 2.5 GPA is required on all courses counting toward the Teach orth Texas inor, see current UT Undergraduate Catalog for all minor requirements. PL 2600, offered only at UT, will fulfill both the Language, Philosophy and Culture core and inor requirements. Teacher Certification: To be certified to teach in the tate of Texas, the student must successfully pass the following exams: xam #1 Tx: Pedagogy & Professional esponsibilities (C-12) xam #2 Tx: Computer cience (7-12) Additional requirements for Teacher Certification in Computer cience include a 2.5 overall GPA (including all transferred courses), a 2.5 UT GPA and a 2.5 major GPA. For information about this option, please contact the College of ngineering. pecial otes ours equired and General/College equirements: A minimum of 121 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree as specified in the general university requirements section of the UT catalog and the College of ngineering requirements. A 2.75 GPA is required for advanced Computer cience & ngineering courses in the major. Grades of D are not accepted. UT Core Curriculum/Transfer of Core Curriculum: UT complies with the mandates of the 1997 Texas Legislature regarding requirements for state-assisted institutions. tudents who successfully complete the common core curriculum (in whole or in part) at a Texas state-assisted institution of higher education are eligible to transfer as core complete for those categories in the UT University Core Curriculum. ndividual academic programs may require courses contained in parts of the University Core Curriculum. tudents who wish to take courses that will fulfill both core and major/program requirements simultaneously should check with academic advisors for assistance in selecting core courses. Choice of Catalog: Any student transferring directly from a Texas public community college to UT shall have the same choice of catalog designating degree requirements as the student would have had if the dates of attendance at the university had been the same as the dates of attendance at the community college.
