2 Sustainability and Heritage Sustainability and Heritage represent two terms that more and more frequently are put beside, as Cultural Heritage, tangible and intangible, is strictly linked to the general principles of sustainable growth. Nevertheless, numerous conflicts emerge: the presence of cultural and material values to be preserved; the economic capacity of the owners; the specific authorization process; the incompatibility with technical rules and regulations; the complexity and unpredictability of any intervention of renovation A new approach and balance between Sustainability and Heritage may contribute to a more necessary overturn in the objectives and cultural references which until now have been considered exclusive.

7 Details and phases of the research Survey campaign: topographic, rigorous analytical and digital simplified photogrammetry, 3D laser and Z-scans Data acquisition: morphology, materials and constructive phases, archives, diagnosis and monitoring, evaluation of thermal behaviour Data collection: Construction, for a part of the complex, of a 3D model and application of parametric software BIM (Building Information Modelling) and a relational GIS system easily transferable into other software packages like ACCESS or REVIT Feasibility study: Meta-project, accesses, uses, energy demand for new uses, identification of conservative interventions and possible enhancement, microgeneration system
