1 THE GEOLOGY OF THE DEEP OFFSHORE NIGER DELT The deep offshore Niger Delta starts from a water depth of 00m and it is divided into four belts structurally namely: DIPIRIC, PONDED OR MINIBSIN : This play is found both to the east and west of the deep offshore. It is better developed in the east than in the west. The concessions to the east include OPL,,,0E,47 whilst those to the west include OML 5, OPLs 0,,, 4NE, 5 and 8.

4 FOLD BELT : This is found to the east and to the West. lso better developed to the east than to the west. The concessions to the east include OPLs 46, 45E,, 6 whilst to the west there are OPLs 5, 09, 48, 49,8 and 0. THRUST BELT: : This is found both to the east and west. The concessions in this belt include OPLs 4,7,9,,,4, 50, 6NE, NE to the west whilst to the east, it includes OPLs OPL 44E, 55E 56, 57, 58, 6NE, 45W.

5 The charcotic fracture zone seperates the eastern structural elements from the western structural elements. This is located along OPLs 5 and 4 where the basesment is shallow with thin sediments. This fracture trends NE-SW. UNCONFINED CHNNEL COMPLEXES : This is well developed to the South West with stratigraphic zone and could be attractive in deeper non amplitude (NS) zones with mounded feathures.
