I have prior experience in managing information system and digital library projects for university libraries in Brazil. I have recently completed my M.S.L.I.S degree at Syracuse University with a concentration in digital libraries. Currently I am working as Metadata Specialist on a digitization project at the Lied Library at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. My immediate professional goal is to apply my experience in a position of responsibility in a university or research library. I also have devised and implemented automated color corrections for the menu images using Photoshop. Other key responsibilities include: Create and use controlled vocabularies Research information related to menus Define file naming structure for archival and processed images Revise digitization procedures from previous projects to incorporate the newly defined scanning settings and procedures Define and design a workflow for processing images including scanning, pre-processing and color correction phases Prior Professional Responsibilities Project Manager: Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations a networked digital library that provides unified access to distributed electronic theses and dissertations among Brazilian universities. Coordinator: government initiative to establish a national metadata standard for electronic theses and dissertations (mtd-br) adopted by members of the Brazilian information community. Project Manager: Open Archives Protocol Project - implementation project of the Open Archive Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) for the digital library being developed. This allowed metadata transfer from Brazilian universities and information centers (data providers) to a union catalog of metadata hosted by IBICT. The union catalog is used to offer public access to the harvested resources and expose metadata to be harvested by other data services such as the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (developed by Virginia Tech). Academic Experience Teaching SUNY Buffalo, School of Informatics Department of Library and Information Studies Spring 2004 Fall 2004 Spring 2005 Fall 2005 Spring 2006 Systems Analysis and Design Information Storage and Retrieval Survey of Information Science and Services Systems Analysis and Design Knowledge Management (two sections) Research developed at SUNY Buffalo Medical Image Retrieval (2006) This project focused on developing and evaluating an information retrieval technique to combine content-based image retrieval and text-based information retrieval for retrieval of medical images. I was a co-investigator in this research project. The authors have participated in the image task in the Cross Language Evaluation Forum 2005 and Cross-Language Information Retrieval (2006) This project involved developing and evaluating a system to perform cross-language information retrieval. The authors have participated in CLEF 2005 in the Portuguese monolingual information retrieval task as well as in the bilingual English-Portuguese information retrieval task. Research Grants AT&T grant for developing research for medical image retrieval system Traveling grant as part of a larger university grant from a large Buffalo-based company (I also have developed a knowledge management workshop for the company as part of the grant).
