3 Summary of annual activities 1. Regular meetings (From October 2013 to September 2014) We made two meetings per month (some more when it was necessary) to organize the activities of this period. During these regular meetings we assigned to every member of our Student Chapter specific tasks to reach. We organized two very successful short-courses and two conferences with professionals of different private companies who are working in diverse topics related to economic geology (see point 3). Also, we are organizing short-courses programmed for the next period (see point 6). 2. Field trip to Santa Cruz and Chubut provinces, Argentina. Between November 29th and December 8th, 2013, the members of the SEG Student Chapter UNS and Dr. Paul Lhotka organized an eight-day field trip to Chubut and Santa Cruz Provinces that was part of the course Geology and Applied Exploration of the Silver Deposits of the Patagonia Argentina. The course and field trip had the support of the Society of Economic Geologists (Round I 2013 Stewart R Wallace Funding application), COEUR Mining Inc, Mirasol Resources and the Geology Department of Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS). A group of 10 members of our Student Chapter participated in this field trip guided by Dr. Paul Lhotka (geologist from the mining industry) and the guest professor was Dr Fernando Tornos (Universidad Internacional de Andalucía, España). Two drivers of the Geology Department (UNS) vehicle also traveled with us. During the trip we visited two silver projects. The first one was the Virginia project ( ; ) located in the center-north of Santa Cruz province in the Deseado Massif. The silver mineralization at Virginia is hosted by quartz epithermal veins with hematite.

Dr. Fernando Tornos from the Instituto Geológico Minero de España, Spain, was invited by our Student Chapter together with the academic authorities of our University. He gave a course on Geochemistry of hydrothermal processes. This course took place in the Geology Department of our university from 25 th to 28 th, November, The aim of the course was to understand and quantify the geochemistry of hydrothermal processes, and especially the low temperature hydrothermal processes (<300 C). The course included an update of knowledge on the origin, transport and precipitation of silicates, oxides and sulfides from hydrothermal fluids. One of the objectives of this course was to emphasize the relationship
7 between purely descriptive geology and the understanding of genetic processes, and extrapolate these processes from small-scale observation to a regional scale. The course included a significant practical component, using calculation programs. About 30 geologists participated, including people from other countries, students, professors of the Universidad Nacional del Sur and others universities of our country. Fig. 6. 16 4. Fund-raising programs Our Student Chapter was benefited with the 2013 Round I Chapter Stewart R. Wallace Student Chapter Funding during this period. With these funds together with economic support from the Universidad Nacional del Sur we organized the field-course named "Geology and Applied Exploration of Silver Deposits in Patagonia, Argentina" described in point 2. Additionally, we received funds from Coeur South America (USD 1,000) as a contribution to this field tripcourse described. This economic support helped us to offset part of the expenses (printing field guides, food, hotel, gasoline). A member of our Student Chapter, Candela Corredera received economic support to the SEG 2014 Conference. (September 27-30, 2014) that was held in Keystone, Colorado, USA, where she present a poster about "Discovery, Exploration and Paragenesis of the Virginia Silver Veins, Deseado Massif, Patagonia Argentina", which was held in conjunction with de Azevedo Natalia and Luna Geraldine. The field trip, as well as thin and polished sections were made with funds provided by Mirasol Resouces LTD. The poster for the conference was conducted with funding from the Department of Geology of our University. The authors thank all the support to realize this project.

Wallace Student Chapter Funding. With the help of this grant, we are planning to conduct a course and field trip to the Copahue geothermal field, Neuquén Argentina, in February In geothermal environments, primary minerals usually tend to alter to secondary (hydrothermal alteration) minerals that are either stable or at least metastable in these environments. The formation of these hydrothermal alteration minerals is usually dependent on the temperature, permeability, pressure, fluid composition, initial composition of the rock and the duration of the hydrothermal activity. These factors are largely independent, but the effects of one or more of the
19 factors can exert a dominant influence in the location and extent of hydrothermal alteration. The topics that are going to be addressed during the theoretical classes of the course are: Alternative and Renewable Energy: Energy Market. Types of energy. Environmental aspects. Economics. Rational use of energy. Geothermal Energy. Fundamentals. Exploration and development of geothermal resources. Geothermal Energy in Argentina and the Neuquén Province. Copahue Geothermal Field. During the field trip we plan to undertake a review of the geological, volcanological and structural aspects of the Copahue Geothermal Field, hydrothermal areas, thermal manifestations and alterations. Exploitation of the geothermal power generation and direct uses. We will observe in this field trip an active hydrothermal system. 6. Future plans We are organizing 6 (six) conferences and 2 (two) short-courses (one of them, with a field trip) for the next period (October September 2015). The first conference will be held by the postgrade student Verónica Bouhier (CONICET-Centro Patagónico de Estudios Metalogenéticos). She is doing her PhD thesis in the Navidad Project, a polymetalic (Ag, Pb, Cu and Zn) worldclass deposit located in Chubut Argentina.
