The program teaches students how to be academically successful in college and how to get involved in campus activities. A fter all the work you ve done to find the best university, here you are with an application to one of the nation s 100 largest public universities in your hands. Go ahead and apply! Sure it s a big step, but moving forward now will bring you closer to knowing your CMU admission status. CMU receives more than 19,000 incoming applications per year for a freshman class of approximately 3,500. Take the lead (it s such a CMU trait!) and get started soon. when? should I apply to CMU Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis. We review every application individually and work hard to provide the answer you re looking for in approximately three weeks. You then will receive official notification of your admission status in the mail. 3 freshman applicants Prospective freshmen are encouraged to begin the application process at the end of their junior year in high school. Priority consideration for admission and first-come, first-served scholarship funding is given to applications completed by Nov. 15. A completed application includes: } ➊ Submission of this application form (also available at apply.cmich.edu). ➋ Official transcript. Check with your high school guidance counselor on how to send us your official transcript. Your school may provide your transcript directly to us, or they may require you to submit a request through parchment.com. ➌ ACT or SAT score. Mark CMU as a top choice on your exam so we receive your score. ➍ Paid application fee. Ask your high school guidance counselor if you qualify for an application fee waiver. Merit Scholarships Your completed application for admission, if submitted by November 15, also qualifies you for consideration for several merit-based scholarships awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to incoming freshmen. Have your official transcripts sent directly to CMU from any colleges or universities you have attended. Transfer of credit } CMU honors both the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) and the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (MACRAO) Agreement. If you meet either of these agreements and it is stamped on your official transcript, credits are applied to meet General Education requirements. Each course will be individually evaluated and could also be used to meet further academic requirements. Prospective students can find out what courses will transfer and conduct an unofficial evaluation of transfer credits using the tools found at cmich.edu/transfer. You ll receive an official evaluation after you are accepted. Academic advisors will use this evaluation to help you select classes.

In the key to the right, each of the six colleges has a number. You ll see one of these college numbers after each major or minor. The college associated with that number serves as the primary administrator of that major or minor. Several majors are interdisciplinary meaning they draw from two or more academic disciplines. African and African Diaspora Studies American Indian Studies Cybersecurity Citizen Engagement Cultural Competency Creative Writing East Asian Studies European Studies Fermentation Science Latin American and Latino Studies Middle East and Islamic Studies Human Geography Social Media (Online only) Freshman with college credit While not a requirement for admission, many high school seniors get a head start on their degree by earning college credit through a variety of programs. These students should apply for admission as incoming freshmen. CMU readily accepts students with credits earned through middle/early college programs, dual enrollment programs, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and College Level Examination Program tests, and other methods. Nondegree students How do you know if you re applying to CMU as a nondegree student? This status is for students who are not actively pursuing CMU degrees. Nondegree candidates are invited to enroll in regular classes but are not eligible to receive financial aid. Categories for nondegree students include: HIGH SCHOOL DUAL ENROLLMENT Junior or senior standing is required for admission, although sophomores may be considered in some exceptional cases. Your high school record to date must satisfy the requirements for freshman admission. A recommendation is required from your counselor or principal. GUEST ADMISSION A regularly admitted student at another accredited college may request admission to CMU as a guest. To apply for guest admission, you may complete a Michigan Uniform Undergraduate Guest Application, which is available at the registrar s offices at all Michigan colleges or check guest on this application. SPECIAL NONDEGREE ADMISSION This form of admission is for any student age 21 and older or who holds a bachelor s degree from another institution who is enrolling at CMU but not planning to pursue a degree. Verification of your high school graduation or college course work is necessary when completing your application.
