SULAK SECURITY CONSULTANT Erwin is the Managing Member and owner of ESA Risk Management LLC (ESA). Erwin is an experienced security and management consultant and litigation support specialist with over thirty years experience in the public and private sectors. Erwin views an organization s well-being as a two sided coin. One side is the achieving of the organization s stated goals. The flip side is the reduction and minimization of liabilities and exposure. Recognizing that nothing happens in a vacuum, Erwin utilizes his multi-disciplinary experiences to address project opportunities and challenges. Erwin believes that effective risk management programs should contain a balance between three critical elements, specifically, deterrence, detection and mitigation. He believes an effective risk program should include documentation of approved practices in common use, regularly scheduled internal and external testing and prompt and consistent responses to incidents which address specific consequences. As well, Erwin believes that opportunities and challenges are best addressed when recognizing their interrelationship in the context of each project s organizational, legal, political and cultural environment. Erwin believes that no one likes surprises, least of all litigation support teams. As such, Erwin focuses on gathering evidence which both supports and refutes allegations, complaints or disputed issues. By seeking to gather evidence which both proves and disproves, clients are in a better position to make informed decisions regarding the issues at hand. Erwin is published and lectures in the areas of forensic interviewing and the role of internal controls in reducing opportunities for fraud. He has developed and utilizes forensic interview methodologies for auditors, investigators and other professionals responsible for objective inquiry. He has developed and utilizes an incident reporting and analysis program which provides for an effective means of identifying root contributions to organizational weaknesses. Erwin has found that the application of this program has resulted in the identification of root causes and contributions not otherwise readily identifiable. In the public sector with the Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, he served as a Special Agent and as a Group Supervisor with responsibilities which included domestic and international overt and covert operations, implementation of and auditing regulatory compliance programs, and presentation of industry education programs. 2 In the private sector, and prior to forming ESA, he had over fifteen years experience in the oil and gas industry. His responsibilities ranged from land management to negotiations covering marketing, acquisitions, divestitures, and JV agreements. Erwin has led or participated in business initiatives to South America and the Former Soviet Union (Azerbaijan). He initiated and implemented a small producer bundling and marketing program for crude oil which netted the operator bonuses in excess of field prices. He initiated and coordinated legal actions to negotiate and settle damages due the company. Erwin received his BA degree from St. Mary s University, San Antonio, Texas. Erwin has provided litigation support to a number of law firms in the areas of oil and gas, real property title examination, civil and criminal defense and prosecution and product liability. Under Erwin s direct supervision, ESA s staff provides pre-employment, background and due diligence research. As well, ESA is a licensed Security Contractor and installs, repairs and provides maintenance for physical security systems which include cameras, access systems and related security devices.
