1 SPEAKERS Robert Sweetow, Ph.D., F-AAA Dr. Robert Sweetow is Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of California, San Francisco and the former Director of Audiology at UCSF. He received his Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1977, M.A. from the University of Southern California, and B.S. from the University of Iowa. Dr. Sweetow has written more than 25 textbook chapters and over 12- scientific articles on counseling, tinnitus, auditory training, and amplification. He is a reviewer for several scientific journals, the author of Counseling for Hearing Aid Fittings and a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Audiology. Dr. Sweetow has lectured worldwide and is a highly sought after speaker known for his informative and entertaining style. He was the developer of the interactive, adaptive computerized auditory training program called LACE (Listening and Communication Enhancement). Dr. Sweetow was the recipient of the prestigious 2008 Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Academy of Audiology. David Hammer, M.A., CCC-SLP NAVIGATING THE FUTURE OSHA 2015 Annual Conference October 9-10 Reed Center, Midwest City David Hammer is the Director of Professional Development and Speech Services for the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA). Prior to this position, Dave had 35 years of pediatric clinical experience at Children s Hospital of Pittsburgh, PA with specialty interests in childhood apraxia of speech and speech sound disorders. He has been invited to present workshops on childhood apraxia and speech sound disorders throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia. Dave was a member of the ASHA Ad Hoc committee on childhood apraxia of speech. He has been involved in the production of a number of apraxia-related DVD s and an innovative children s CD. Dave is known for his practical and therapy-rich presentations. Wendy Stacy, M.S., CCC-SLP, CALT, QI, LDT Wendy Stacy is an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist, ALTA certified academic language therapist, ALTA certified qualified instructor, and a licensed dyslexia therapist in Texas. She is Director and Lead Dyslexia Therapist for the ReadWrite Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She has provided trainings for classroom teachers and therapists in multisensory language-based classroom and academic language therapy curricula throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. In addition, she has provided professional development seminars for classroom teachers, therapists, and speechlanguage pathologists in Oklahoma and Texas. Prior to establishing the ReadWrite Center, Wendy served as Student Support Services Director and Lead Dyslexia Therapist for twelve years at Crossings Christian School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Wendy Lawson, M.S., CCC-SLP Wendy is the Director of Allied Health at Oklahoma Heart Hospital South campus. She has a Masters of Public Health focused in Epidemiology. She is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and has a bachelor's degree in Secondary Science Education. She is a board member of the American Lung Association, has been a professor at Rose State College prior to her current position and is an active speaker with the Critical Care Consortium. She is a wife and mother of two who enjoys art, travel and many outdoor sports. Monica Benear, M.S., CCC-SLP
2 Monica Benear graduated from UCO with honors while obtaining her Masters of Speech-Language Pathology in She has provided services for children with communication disorders in medical and private practice settings. Since 2009 she has been the owner of a private practice in Edmond, OK. She has had past experience supervision students at the University of Central Oklahoma Speech and Hearing Clinic. She was adjunct staff at UCO for seven years, teaching the Augmentative Alternative Communication graduate level course. She currently provides speech therapy services in Edmond and North OKC. She has experience working with children who have varied communication delays or disorders. Monica enjoys providing treatment for articulation delays/disorders, AAC (augmentative alternative communication) needs, and feeding difficulties. Teresa Bierig, M.S., CCC-SLP Teresa Bierig, M.S. CCC-SLP, is a Team Leader of Acute Care at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. Her experience includes working in a variety of hospital, rehab, skilled nursing, home health, and corporate settings with a focus on medical speech-language pathology and foreign accent modification. She has also taught in the SLPA program at OCCC and in the graduate SLP program at OSU-Tulsa. She has served OSHA as Tri-Alliance Chair, Medical Issues Chair, and is the Oklahoma representative for the ASHA STAR and StAMP reimbursement and advocacy networks. Karen Copeland, M.A., CCC-SLP Karen is a practicing SLP specializing in the area of adult neurogenic communication disorders. She is a Past President of the Oklahoma Speech-Language-Hearing Association and past Chair of the Oklahoma Board of Examiners for SLP/A. In addition to clinical practice, Karen is an adjunct faculty member at OSU Tulsa and developer/director for Cowboy Aphasia Camp. Derick Deweber, Ph.D., CCC-SLP Derick Deweber, Ph.D., is a bilingual speech-language pathologist, researcher, and educator from Oklahoma City, OK. His clinical and research backgrounds have primarily focused on issues related to second language acquisition across the lifespan. Dr. Deweber has been very active in his professional service at the state and national level. Lindsay Hanna, M.S., CCC-SLP Mrs. Hanna is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (Cert AVT) with Hearts for Hearing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Lindsay is the Director of Outreach, increasing community awareness of hearing loss, managing community and school-based hearing screenings, and establishing contracts with local school districts in addition to providing weekly listening and spoken language therapy services for infants and children. She coordinates an annual summer camp for elementary-age graduates of the program with an emphasis on community involvement and maximizing conversational competency. In addition, Mrs. Hanna provides consultation for the team regarding oral motor evaluations and dysphagia. Her previous experience includes adult outpatient services and providing curriculum-based language therapy for students. Amy Huffer, LCSW, IMH-E Amy Huffer graduated with her Masters in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma. While pursuing her social work clinical licensure, she specialized in working with children under the age of three. After a three-year hiatus where she worked with patients with chronic kidney disease, she is now serving as Oklahoma s Early Childhood Trainer and Consultant where she works to develop and strengthen the infant and early childhood workforce in Oklahoma. In addition, Ms. Huffer is pursuing her Doctorate at Oklahoma State University, where she supports research efforts in the field of infant and early childhood mental health. Ms. Huffer has also been endorsed by the Oklahoma Association for Infant Mental Health as an Infant Mental Health Mentor, is Board President of OK-AIMH, and teaches adjunct at the University of Central Oklahoma.
3 Jane Humphries, Ed.D., CCPS Dr. Jane Humphries experience in the early childhood field has included being a child care director, child and parenting specialist, college instructor, researcher, published author and program administrator of governmental programs supporting children and families. Dr. Humphries currently serves as an adjunct instructor in the Human Environmental Sciences Department at the University of Central Oklahoma and the Family Studies & Gerontology Program at Southern Nazarene University. Her company, Creative Educational Strategies & Services, provides professional development learning opportunities, written resources as well as being the inventor of two products featured in the Fiddle Focus product line which are appropriate for individuals seeking sensory stimulation. She has earned undergraduate degrees in Family and Child Development, a Master s degree in Early Childhood Education, and a doctoral degree in Occupational and Adult Education from Oklahoma State University. Suzanne Kimball, AuD. Dr. Suzanne Kimball is an assistant professor of audiology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. Dr. Kimball received her Master's degree in audiology from the University of Memphis in 1989 and her Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree from the University of Florida in She joined the faculty at OUHSC in Dr. Kimball has held teaching positions at Illinois State University, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, and Nicholls State University. Dr. Kimball's research interests are in the area of hearing aid delivery models, telepractice and tinnitus and sound sensitivity. Dr. Kimball currently has two areas of investigation, the use of audiology telepractice and personality characteristics of tinnitus and misophonia sufferers. In addition to teaching and administrative duties, Dr. Kimball supervises graduate audiology students in their clinical practicum and sees patients through her private practice at OUHSC. Kelli Marshall, M.S., CCC-SLP Kelli Marshall is a speech-language pathologist and co-owner of Today s Therapy Solutions, a pediatric outpatient clinic, and Today s Consulting Solutions (OK Therapy Seminars), a professional development and consulting company. Kelli has over twelve years of experience working with children and adults with developmental disabilities. She has experience in private practice, schools, hospital, and university settings. Kelli also provides professional development and consultation services to schools and private practices. Her areas of expertise include: Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC), functional communication systems, and social skill development. Kelli resides with her husband in Moore, OK and has two daughters. Kelly Ott, MHS, M.Ed., CCC-SLP Kelly Ott, MHS, MEd, CCC-SLP has over 20 years of experience in various roles as a Speech-Language Pathologist, educator, and administrator. She has served children and adults with diverse communication needs. She is currently in private practice and contracting with SESI which is an alternative school for children with behavioral needs. She work with children and their families to learn how to navigate the confusing world of communication in our surroundings and social expectations. Nancy Payne, M.A., CCC-SLP Nancy Payne is a lifelong stutterer and has been a speech-language pathologist for 39 years. Mrs. Payne gained her bachelors and master s degrees at Oklahoma State University. She has worked for the Oklahoma Department of Health, public schools, private practice, and has also taught and supervised at Oklahoma State University. Her interest in stuttering intervention began when her own son began to stutter at age 2. She has since continued treating numerous persons who stutter.
4 Lissa Power-deFur, Ph.D., CCC-SLP Lissa Power-deFur, PhD, CCC-SLP, serves as the communication sciences and disorders graduate program director at Longwood University, where she teaches course the graduate course in ethics and professional issues. Previously, she worked at the Virginia Department of Education in special education, student services and policy. Lissa received her bachelor s, master s, and doctoral degrees in speech-language pathology at the University of Virginia. She is a Fellow of ASHA and the Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Virginia (SHAV) and regularly volunteers for the profession. She currently serves on the ASHA Board of Directors as Vice President of Standards and Ethics in Speech-Language Pathology. Previously, she has served as a President of SHAV, as a member of ASHA s Legislative Council, as state education advocacy leader, a member of the ASHA Board of Ethics, and various other ASHA committees and boards. She has presented on ethical decision-making at a variety of conferences and on-line workshops. Kari Rains, M.S., CCPS Kari Rains is a Certified Child and Parenting Specialist and Child Development Specialist with over a decade of clinical work for the Oklahoma State Department of Health. She has published two books, as well as numerous research articles in the field of child development. Teaming with Dr. Jane in 2013, it is her mission to assist those who work with children and adults who struggle with social/emotional regulation issues. Kari earned her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and her Master s degree in Child Development, both from Oklahoma State University. Yareli Resendiz, B.S. Yareli Resendiz, B.S., is a Spanish-English language interpreter at Full Function Rehabilitation in Oklahoma City, OK. She has undergraduate degrees in Communication Sciences & Disorders and Psychology from Fort Hayes State University. Yareli will begin her graduate studies in Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Fall Allyson Robinson, M.A., CCC-SLP Allyson Robinson is Oklahoma ABLE Tech s Speech-Language Pathologist and AT Specialist. She specializes in augmentative and alternative communication and assistive technology solutions. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2006 with a Bachelor s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and from the University of Kansas in 2008 with a Master of Arts in Speech Pathology. Allyson worked previously for Pawnee Public Schools serving children ages Darcy Stowe, M.S., CCC-SLP Darcy Stowe is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (Cert AVT) with Hearts for Hearing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. For many years, she served as the lead preschool teacher where she facilitated a classroom founded on listening and spoken language principles and strategies. Ms. Stowe serves as the Director of Training and Support Services for Hearts for Hearing by guest lecturing annually at each of Oklahoma s programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders to further future professional s knowledge of spoken language outcomes of children with hearing loss, supervising graduate students who rotate through the clinic for a hands-on learning experience in working with children with hearing loss, and by exploring innovative opportunities for continuing education for providers on the team. Alyssa Tyson, M.A., CCC-SLP Alyssa Tyson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology from USAO in 2001 and her Master of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology from UCO in She currently provides speech language pathology services at Positive Strategies. Alyssa has 12 years of experience working with individuals with complex
5 communication needs and developmental disabilities. She is adjunct faculty in the UCO Speech Language Pathology program. Lara Wakefield, Ph.D., CCC-SLP Lara Wakefield, PhD, CCC-SLP, has over 20 years of experience in various roles as a Speech-Language Pathologist, researcher, and Parent Advocate. Lara is in private practice and works on special education advocacy cases in 27 districts in mid-missouri. She helps families and schools create meaningful and compliant IEP goals. Kathy Wheat, Ph.D., CCC-SLP Kathy J. Wheat, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is Program Director and professor for the Oklahoma City Community College Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Program. She received degrees from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. She has practiced as a speech-language pathologist in schools, outpatient clinics, hospitals, private practice, and home health care settings. Dr. Wheat serves the Oklahoma Speech-Language Hearing Association as Schools Issues Chair and the Oklahoma State Education Advocate (S.E.A.L.). She consults with Oklahoma school districts regarding SLPs and SLPAs. She is a former chair for the ASHA School Finance Committee and routinely presents at OSHA, ASHA, and educational conferences on topics including; Supervision of SLPAs, Negotiation, Service-Delivery Models for SLPs, Communication Styles, School Finance for SLPs, and various educational research topics of interest.
