8 Technical Annex 1 Question history and previous datasets 1.1 These questions were introduced in March 2012 and replace the previous all gamling and remote question sets. These new questions were devised to align etter with the questions in the British Gamling Prevalence Survey 2010, and to etter distinguish etween gamling activities (i.e. what respondents are doing) and gamling mode (i.e. how they are doing it). Respondents are also now asked aout the frequency of their gamling participation. 1.2 For the four quarters of 2012 these questions were run alongside the previous omnius question sets (i.e. remote and all gamling ). A tale showing how the new questions compare to the previous datasets is provided at the end of this annex. 1.3 Previous reports can e accessed on the Gamling Commission s wesite. 2 Methodology, dataset and reporting conventions 2.1 Each survey is conducted once a quarter (in March, June, Septemer and Decemer) with a nationally representative sample (in terms of age, gender, social classification and region) of adults (over 18-year-olds). To ensure consistency and comparaility, oth surveys usually take place at the same time of the in each quarter. The overall sample size is relatively roust, especially when measured on a regular asis over time. However, when analysing specific forms or methods of gamling, the sample numers are lower, with consequential increased margins of error in the percentages given. Where figures do not add up to 100% it is ecause respondents refused to answer, answered don t know, were permitted to give multiple responses, or ecause of rounding (the figures in this report have een rounded to the nearest whole numer, with the exception of values less than 0.5 which are shown to the nearest decimal place). 2.2 In order to minimise sample volatility, all the data contained within this report are shown as annual figures y averaging the results for the four most recent quarterly surveys. A full reakdown of ase sizes is provided elow. 2.3 The following conventions have een used in the tales: - No oservations (zero values). [ ] Estimates in square rackets warn of small ase sizes (less than 30). 2.4 ICM Research interviewed the following random samples of adults (18+) y telephone. Interviews were conducted across the country and the results have een weighted to the profile of all adults. ICM is a memer of the British Polling Council and aides y its rules.
