6 GLOBAL BETTING, GAMBLING AND GAMING INDUSTRY Global gambling and gaming revenues registered a growth rate of 3% in 2008 and a decline of 2.4% in The overall industry has continued to grow at a slower growth rate.. The total gaming and gambling industry in 2009 reached USD ~ billion and the casino market reached USD ~ billion, registering a decline of 1.8%. In 2010, the gambling and gaming industry registered a growth of 2.4%. Growth is likely to continue in the near future. For the period , the gambling industry recorded a CAGR of 3.58%. The industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.50%, Figure: Global Gambling and Gaming Industry Gross Revenue ( ) EUROPE LOTTERY AND BETTING INDUSTRY The gaming indutry in Europe holds a major position wherein Hellnic which is a state run organisation and OPAP which is a global player are some of the big names which operte in the European lottery and betting industry. 7 REMOTE GAMBLING Remote gambling is the new segment in the gambling industry which is spreading very fast in the European countries. Approximately 600 organisations controlled nearly 2,500 non state lottery remote gambling sites in In 2010, the Euroepan players accounted for USD ~ billion of proceeds from gambling. The figure registered an increase from 2008 which was USD ~ billion. Figure: Europe Remote Gambling, Gross Gambling Yield ( ) OPPORTUNITIES IN GREAT BRITAIN GAMBLING INDUSTRY In 2009, Britsh gambling generated proceeds worth USD 9 billion which increased to USD 11.4 billion in With a share of 48% in the market, non remote betting sector has the largest market. Casino forms the second largest market with a share of 13.7% followed by Bingo with 11.8% of the market. BRITAIN CASINO INDUSTRY There were 143 casinos and two card clubs operating at 31 March 2009 and number of casinos declined and reached to 141 casinos as on March The casino industry remains dominated by three companies, namely the Gala Group with 27 casinos, Grosvenor Casinos (part of Rank plc) with 35 casinos and Genting Casinos Ltd with 44 casinos. 10

12 LOTTERIES IN BRITAIN As of March 31, 2010 there were 419 non-commercial organisations licensed to promote society lotteries. 13 BRITAIN CASINO AND GAMING INDUSTRY FORECAST Industry is expected to grow from USD 11.4 billion in 2010 to USD 19 billion by 2015 with a CAGR of 9.43% which believes to be strong and the major segment accounting for highest GGR will be casino. Online options and betting exchanges have proven to be extremely popular and have attracted new customers, as well as providing new forms of betting to existing betters. 13
