Right in time for TRAFFEX exhibition in Birmingham we present you with the latest news about the growing international SWARCO Group. SWARCO has undergone a very dynamic development especially in the past 2 years. The Group has grown to some 80 companies in 20 countries and in the meantime employs 2700 people. In 2009 we will pass for the first time the turnover threshold of EUR 400M. We wish to thank all our employees for their part in this tremendous development. This growth both organic and through acquisitions has consequences in many respects. Our products, systems and solutions portfolio has been enlarged. SWARCO has become one of the very few one-stop shops for traffic technology. Our customers will benefit from the extended market presence and improved services. The corporate design of SWARCO is being carefully modernised to strengthen the brand and promote our corporate spirit. The integration of acquired companies is a continuous challenge in our daily work. One example is the new and future-oriented set-up of our traffic management competence in Germany with the companies SIGNALBAU HUBER and DAMBACH-WERKE. The ideal partner for this was found in the Austrian advertising agency Reichl und Partner based in Linz. After intense development work initiated less than one year ago, the new face of SWARCO will be implemented step by step throughout the entire group starting in spring Logo claim graphic language The new corporate design sheds a new light on existing and proven corporate values. A clear and bright graphic look consistently characterises printed matters, presentations, advertisements and exhibition stands. The well-known SWARCO logo remains unchanged and is reinforced by the new design language. SWARCO s ambitious vision of becoming the

The need to integrate numerous companies with their own mature identities is a particular challenge for us. We have changed from a mere product manufacturer to a solution provider. Recurring arrowlike shapes, so-called arrowgons, reinterpret the arrows of the SWARCO logo and add a lot of dynamic and lightness to our new design. A limited set of colours and a clear imagery make us concentrate on the essential and provide unmistakable recognisability. 6 6 TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PROJECTS I DRIVE ON REDUCED CONGESTION BETTER TRAVEL THE BUCHAREST TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Facts & Figures Project volume 18.5 MEUR Start of project November 2007 Project completion Spring of 2009 Scope of services UTC system and initial integration of 100 intersections, PTM system and initial integration of 300 buses, video surveillance system, traffic control centre SWARCO systems reduce travel time in the Romanian capital city The Romanian capital city of Bucharest is reaping the benefits of the Bucharest Traffic Management System (BTMS), a telematics system that manages traffic and urban transport. BTMS is the most advanced integrated system of its kind in Europe and incorporates telematics solutions developed by MIZAR AUTOMAZIONE for adaptive traffic light control (UTOPIA), public transport fleet management (FLASH), multimedia travel information and mobility forecasts (MISTIC). BTMS was implemented jointly by SWARCO AG of Austria, with which MIZAR AUTOMAZIONE is affiliated, and the Romanian company UTI. The project will be completed in several stages. The first stage of the project will equip 100 intersections with new technology. The second stage will bring the total to 140 intersections. Full intersection coverage and management of the entire public transport fleet is planned. The system will significantly decrease traffic congestion, reduce total travel time by at least 15% and give priority to public transport vehicles at intersections. SWARCO has already successfully passed the site acceptance tests for the BTMS project, which is the first international project awarded to SWARCO in a major European city. The contractual portion was amazingly completed in just over one year in a joint effort by SWARCO Project Management, MIZAR, SWARCO TECHNOLOGY, SWARCO FUTURIT and SWARCO SICOR. BTMS monitored out of a brand-new traffic control centre is based on the functional integration of eight main subsystems: urban traffic control (UTC), public transport management (PTM), closed circuit television (CCTV), strategy supervisor (SS), fault management systems (FMS), network management systems (NMS), performance monitoring (PM), traffic and travel information interface (TTII) and a common graphical user interface (CGUI). The ITS applications operate in the context of an open modular and scalable integrated architecture designed and implemented following recommendations that have emerged from highly advanced EU research projects such as QUARTET Plus. Prior to BTMS there was constant congestion in the centre of Bucharest. Since BTMS has been launched, traffic in the controlled area is rarely congested. A traffic study conducted in March 2009 by the Univer sity of Bucharest will objectively evaluate the benefits of the system as compared to a study conducted in March The results are expected to be very positive as travel times have already been visibly reduced. A desirable further expansion of BTMS bears an enormous potential and environmental benefits for the city with its 1,000 intersections and a fleet of 4,000 means of public transport.

7 DRIVE ON I TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PROJECTS 7 BUSTLING SUCCESS IN THE ETERNAL CITY The result of a competitive tender has now been announced by Rome s transport authority. The contract for centralizing and maintaining the traffic signaling system at 74 intersections in the city was awarded to MIZAR AUTOMAZIONE. This brings to over 250 the number of traffic intersections managed by MIZAR in the capital city of Italy. It represents a further victory in Italy, following many similar successes in other parts of the world. MIZAR AUTOMAZIONE is the transport telematics specialist of the SWARCO Group and is recognized as a leader in the ITS sector. The company, founded in Turin in 1981, also has offices in Verona, Rome, Naples and Gothenburg (Sweden). It has gained a reputation for excellence as a result of successfully implementing its traffic and fleet management systems in numerous cities, including Brussels, Barcelona, Dublin, Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Bucharest, Warsaw, Kiev, Eindhoven, Gothenburg, Milan, Turin, Florence, Rome and Naples. FIRST-CLASS SERVICE TUNNEL IN HELSINKI SWARCO is supplying stateof-the-art traffic management technology to the service tunnel in the city of Helsinki. The traffic control system for Helsinki s underground service tunnel will ensure the best possible traffic safety and flow. The traffic guidance and monitoring systems provide information on the functional state of the tunnel and the number of free parking spaces. The system guides users to their destination and warns drivers of any road incidents. Traffic is controlled by SWARCO traffic signals and variable message signs. The most recently patented optical lens system and SMD LED technology made by SWARCO FUTURIT are used in the variable message signs. The equipment complies with the SFS-EN standard. The scope of delivery includes 15 freetext variable message signs, full-matrix variable parking guidance signs, WEISS traffic counting and classification equipment, LED traffic signals and ITC-2 traffic light controllers. The service tunnel connects several commercial centres of the city, provides parking facilities and serves the University of Helsinki. Parts of the tunnel will be used for parking and others solely for service traffic. EXTENDED MOTORWAY CONTROL SYSTEM IN STOCKHOLM The motorway system in Stockholm consists of more than 1000 lane signs, detectors and 200 variable-direction signs, all of which are maintained by SWARCO. The motorway system of the E4 near Stockholm is being upgraded to match the system now in place in the Norrortsleden tunnel, a system implemented by SWARCO in The new system for the open motorway was awarded to SWARCO, who competed with Peek Traffic and Siemens. The scope of supply includes 111 fullcolor RGB lane signs, 127 lanes signs, 4 large variable direction signs of prism type, 127 microwave detectors and 36 MTM outstations. It is the first time that full-color RGB signs are being used as lane signals. The LED signs are being produced by SWARCO FUTURIT. The prismatic signs will be delivered by DAMBACH-WERKE. The outstation is being installed by SWARCO in close cooperation with the Dutch MTM supplier Vialis.

Mortensen and Geir Kåre Ynnesdal (Bybanen), Bjørn Tore Aaslund (SWARCO) A new light rail line is being built in Bergen, Norway s second largest city, to connect the city centre with the airport in Flesland. The municipal transportation system, known as Bybanen, is part of the largest urban traffic control project in the Nordic region. Despite heavy competition and after tough negotiations, SWARCO NORGE AS won the contract as head supplier by offering the best and most professional solutions in terms of engineering, technical expertise, project planning and overall costs. SWARCO will deliver and assemble 27 complete traffic signals together with equipment for the remote controlling and monitoring of signalised intersections. The project also includes programming and flow optimisation. Existing intersections that interact with Bybanen will require optimisation, says Bjørn Tore Aaslund, SWARCO s project manager. Aaslund will be stationed in Bergen throughout the entire project period. The Bybanen project consists of multiple phases, during which the city of Bergen will have to completely re-adjust existing traffic flows. In this regard SWARCO will be of support by providing the best possible organisation of the intersections and adapting the functionality of the junctions to different requirements during the construction period. We will cooperate closely with other contractors, says Aaslund, adding that this is a major project for SWARCO. When the project will be finished in 2011, SWARCO customers and the citizens of Bergen will benefit from the most upto-date public transportation system available. SWARCO MIZAR AB BUS SERVICE SWEDISH-STYLE SWARCO MIZAR is delivering a real-time information and traffic management system to Länstrafiken Västerbotten in Sweden. SWARCO MIZAR is currently installing a new state-of-the-art passenger information and traffic management system for the Västerbotten region of northern Sweden. The system is a hybrid between MIZAR s and SWARCO MIZAR s highly successful Flash and Linaria systems. The three main terminals in the region, in Lycksele, Umeå and Skellefteå, have already been installed. The system will deliver realtime traffic information to passenger monitors at terminals and bus stops as well as to registered mobile phones. The system also offers traffic management by providing public transportation companies information for more ef- Accurate Public Transport infos are vital in winter fective fleet management by letting them respond in a timely manner to changes such as extreme weather, vehicle malfunction or unexpectedly large numbers of passengers. Real-time arrival and departure forecasts are generated by Flash, which receives vehicle coordinates via GPRS from ticketing machines onboard buses. Bus drivers will also be able to send alarms and receive new orders from the control centre through the system, which is scheduled for completion in summer 2009.

9 DRIVE ON I TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT R&D 9 SIGNALBAU HUBER (WEISS-ELECTRONIC) KEEPING AN EYE ON THE WEATHER Weather radar The latest WEISS-ELECTRONIC project in Thuringia, Germany, will provide reliable forecasts for efficient winter roadside assistance. Without comprehensive and detailed weather information, roadside assistance crews can only rely on general information and their own experience. Clearing and salting the roads is basically left to chance. Crews need precise information on weather and road conditions, and the information needs to be sorted according to time and location. The WEISS-ELECTRONIC project now executed by SIGNALBAU HUBER within the new German sales, project and service organisation is based on UZ2000 software, which has been successfully used in many tunnel and traffic management projects. A total of 36 measurement stations with 458 sensors collect a wide variety of measured values, such as road surface temperature, remaining salt levels and precipitation. The data is collected and automatically forwarded to the National German Meteorological Service, where the data is edited and compared with general weather data, making it possible to generate reliable road data and weather forecasts several times a day. The data are merged, evaluated and visualised in a graphical user interface and used as the basis for providing the best possible winter roadside services. Response times and accidents are greatly reduced, making the economic benefits far outreach the minimised operating costs. SIGNALBAU HUBER INCREASING SAFETY AT INTERSECTIONS Depending on the region and country, thirty to sixty percent of all accidents occur at intersections. The INTERSAFE-2 road safety project is designed to change this for good. Following the successful PReVENT-INTERSAFE project, he INTERSAFE-2 road safety project was launched in June of 2008 under the leadership of SIGNALBAU HUBER GmbH, SWARCO s traffic control and management expert. The project will provide a cooperative intersection safety system (CISS) designed to significantly reduce injuries and fatalities at intersections. Termed a STREP (Specific Targeted Research Project) within the seventh EU framework program, the project is being managed by Ibeo, a laser technology company located in Hamburg. CISS combines warning and intervention functions both at intersections with traffic lights and those without any equipment. The total project budget amounts to 6.6 million euros. The project consortium consists of sensor and communication technology suppliers, research institutes, system integrators and vehicle manufacturers in six European countries. The scope of supply also includes the powerful ACTROS traffic controller, a modular and flexible control system with Ethernet INTERSAFE-2 is expected to increase safety by 80% and CAN interfaces to make it easier to integrate new components and the INTERSAFE-2 roadside features into a single state-of-the-art traffic control system with laser scanners and sensors and to combine the sensor data in order to provide corresponding signals. The project is expected to increase safety by 80% with respect to injuries and fatal accidents at intersections, reduce all accident-related injuries by 40% and decrease accident-related fatalities in Europe by 20%.

10 10 TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT R&D I DRIVE ON SMART CARS ON SMART ROADS INTERNATIONAL SWARCO WORKSHOP ON COOPERATIVE SYSTEMS Focus on cooperative systems has revealed how data and information can be exchanged between vehicles and the road infrastructure to create safer and more fluid traffic conditions. What are these systems, and what opportunities do they offer for the SWARCO Group? An internal workshop was held in Vienna on 22 January to answer these questions and to explore the implications for SWARCO. The highly successful event was organized by MIZAR AUTOMAZIONE, the SWARCO traffic management (STM) company most active in this area of research. Roughly 30 people attended, including several STM managing directors and technical managers. Talking cars. Cooperative systems involve the implementation of communications networks to allow vehicles and the road infrastructure to exchange information. The result is smart cars on smart roads with important benefits for a safer, greener and more efficient transportation system. After an intensive phase of pre-competitive research, cooperative systems are now on the threshold of large-scale deployment. In August 2008 the EC issued a frequency allocation for cars, that talk will see on-road tests by major integrated projects funded by the European Commission (see related article on these tests). SWARCO has been a major player in this initial research phase. Now is the time to define a clear strategic view of how the Group can best approach the deployment process. The morning session was opened by Eric Kenis of the European Commission, Paul Kompfner of ERTICO and Reinhard Pfliegl of AustriaTech. The speakers provided interesting information on the current state of the art, the market perspective and the EU action plan. An overview of MIZAR s own research activities was given by Gino Franco. The following discussions about the basic technologies, possibilities and expectations was chaired by Professor Vito Mauro of MIZAR. STM Division head John Chipperfield chaired the afternoon s session on the strategic issues for the STM companies. One of the workshop s results was an important agreement between STM companies to stay in close touch with developments and to explore market openings as these emerge. As a first step, it was decided to launch a joint initiative, including a demonstration to integrate in-house technologies at the Cooperative Systems Showcase to be co-sponsored by the EC in early 2010.

11 DRIVE ON I TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT R&D 11 COOPERATIVE SYSTEMS DEMOS GREEN ITS TACKLES CLIMATE CHANGE As the EC s cooperative system research projects enter their fourth year, a series of road tests are planned to demonstrate the prototypes which have now been developed. MIZAR AUTOMAZIONE, which is involved in three of these projects, is working with other companies and road operators, to set up trial sites in Italy. One of the cooperative system projects is a hazard and incident warning system developed for the SAFESPOT project. The system is to be tested on the expressway linking the city of Turin with the airport. It integrates an innovative approach to roadside sensing, involving the use of microsensors linked within a wireless sensor network. Data are hopped from one sensing node to another and then processed within a roadside unit to give drivers advance warning of possible dangers on the road ahead, for example an accident or a stationary vehicle hidden behind a bend, or a ghost driver, i.e. a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction (which the sensors record at negative speed). The speed profiling application, on the other hand, to be tested at an intersection in the city of Turin, will show how cooperative functions lead to a more efficient traffic control system. Synchronization between vehicles approaching an intersection and the traffic control system allow speed recommendations to be sent to drivers so that they receive a green light and can continue driving. High hopes are being placed by the European Commission in the potential of new telematics applications in order to meet the Kyoto environmental targets by achieving greater energy efficiency in transportation and reducing CO 2 emissions. A call was launched in late 2008 for research initiatives. The STM company MIZAR AUTOMAZIONE is involved in several proposals for developing such applications, called Green ITS (intelligent transport systems). As part of the Intelligent Car Initiative, the Commission endorsed a cooperation agreement in March 2008 with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The agreement foresees the definition of a common methodology for assessing the impact of ITS on CO 2 emissions and energy efficiency in transportation. Angela Spence of MIZAR s Innovation Unit was invited by the Commission to join the EC-METI Task Force. Its objective is to review available methodologies and make recommendations for future action with a view to achieving inter national standardization. The details of a roadmap for achieving this will be finalized in two workshops planned to be held during A technical report to present the conclusions of the first stage of the project is due to be published within a short time. Another system to be tested in Turin involves the enhancement of navigation services. The dynamic routing system integrates information on real-time traffic conditions into the recommended path calculation. This enables travelers to avoid congested parts of the city and reach their destination faster. Users in the demo receive pertinent information on a handheld computer (PDA). Angela Spence

12 12 TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT R&D I DRIVE ON SWARCO RESEARCH CENTER R&D and innovation are essential to ensure our corporation s leading position in traffic technology. Since the beginning of the year, the new SWARCO RESEARCH CENTER (SRC) is the coordinating function directly subordinated to SWARCO AG, Wattens. In creating the SRC, SWARCO underlines its determination to better coordinate and elaborate the topics innovation and new technologies within a centralized responsibility. Technology & system architecture, innovation and technology management are the three focal points of the SRC. As an internal consultancy unit it deals with assessment and evaluation of existing technologies, identification of system and product gaps, overall system integration, technology scouting and promotion of new approaches including the coordination in intellectual property and R&D matters. Training activities as well as support in innovation, technology, and process management complement the SRC s tasks. The SRC will explicitly lend its competence to both SWARCO Divisions (Traffic Management and Materials). The direction of the SRC is in the hands of Dr. Werner Rom who has over 15 years of experience in R&D management (traffic telematics, nanotechnology, optoelectronics, solid-state and nuclear physics), acquisition and management of international projects and the set-up of technology networks. Together with his team members Jörg Worschech and Michael Michaelis, Mr. Rom works from offices based in Graz. Currently the SRC is working on four projects concerning the development of novel SWARCO systems, strategic roadmaps, and R&D management and support. Contact: werner.rom@swarco.com Dr. Werner Rom I2ÖPNV PROJECT INTERMODAL TRAVELLER INFORMATION Leading Austrian companies jointly develop a demo system that promotes the use of an intelligent mix of transport modes. Initiated by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology, I2ÖPNV looks into the possibilities to better link individual and public transport modes by traffic telematics. The mid- to long-term goal is to design, develop and implement an integrated system which enables comprehensive multimodal route planning, choice of transportation modes, parking place reservations, park & ride opportunities and much more says SWARCO project participant Gerwin Wichmann. Leading Austrian corporations such as ASFINAG, ÖBB, CNS, EBE, ORF, TELEKOM AUSTRIA, VOR and SWARCO contribute their know-how. SWARCO, together with its Italian subsidiary MIZAR, concentrates on design, development and implementation of information processes and the intermodal navigation solution. Currently, a traveller can use existing information systems (Internet, mobile Internet, UMTS, radio services, etc.) to select the ideal route to a particular destination. The new approach is that a registered user of the Public Transport information and booking platform can have his route calculated and then decide for the preferred mode of transportation (e.g. walking, car, bus, train, etc.). Manuel Milli from MIZAR: In a more advanced scheme, a user is informed of disruptions on the chosen itinerary and gets offered alternative travel modes with real-time scheduling and e.g. park & ride options. For the time being, the research project intends to deliver a feasibility study and a test demo system. The newly founded SWARCO Academy prepares the talents for tomorrow s challenges and plays a key role in a smooth succession management. Academy responds to a changing environment The strong growth of our group of companies, selective acquisitions in the past 2-3 years, a continuous change of job requirements in a competitive environment, and a stronger global orientation require new abilities and skills, new knowledge and know-how. This goes along with the need for our employees to adapt to new challenges and refocus their current orientation. The Academy s main objective is to organise the succession of managers well in advance and in a coordinated way, declares SWARCO AG Executive and human-resources specialist Christian Bauer. In founding the SWARCO Academy we want to lay an important cornerstone to ensure the consistent advancement of our employees and promote continuous learning within the company. The essential tasks of the SWARCO Academy are: strengthening of competences continued education of managers and employees identification of potentials and talents for management positions efficient succession plans specialised individual trainings (e.g. innovation, sales, etc.) Trainings trimmed to individual target groups The program of the Academy is oriented towards different target groups, and the training content is adjusted to the individual needs of these groups. The candidates, who were selected after a nomination precedure by the individual companies followed by a central evaluation, will pass a training course programme of 3-4 modules held in English language and stretching over one and a half years, explains Sigrid Kapferer, Human Resources Manager with SWARCO AG. Training subjects include business management, project management, team building, and communication skills to name but a few. External Management Development Trainers will run these trainings. Knowledge and skills in practice In the individual modules different learning approaches are applied, such as teamwork, effective presenting, role plays, etc. The participants put into practice what they have learned by working on real projects with actual relevance and benefit for the SWARCO Group. In addition network building between the participants should be developed. Very important for us is the integration of the candidates direct superiors and managers who should define educational goals and consequently also review these targets together with their employees, adds Kapferer. Even if the SWARCO Academy is still under construction, we are convinced that our people are our most valuable asset. Manfred Swarovski In the past four decades Manfred Swarovski managed to develop SWARCO into one of the most successful players in the traffic technology industry. Perseverance, vision and the awareness to make the right decisions in the right moment are his tool set for success. The SWARCO founder, owner and chairman could relaxingly lean back and enjoy the fruits of his entrepreneurship. But this is not the character of ambitious Manfred Swarovski who was born into a family with a long entrepreneurial tradition and professionalism going back to Daniel Swarovski, his great-grandfather. Jointly with his executive team Andreas Wecht (CFO), Christian Bauer (COO) and his son Alexander Swarovski (CMO), Manfred Swarovski safely manoeuvres the SWARCO ship in times where other corporations are fighting for survival. SWARCO s management has always found the right point of time to push growth and expansion. Continuous organic growth and selected strategic acquisi- tions, combined with innovation and new technologies, are vital parameters to secure a healthy and future-oriented path of expansion, explains CFO Andreas Wecht. Time and again it has been Manfred Swarovski s entrepreneurial spirit to develop SWARCO a step further. Aged only 29, he built his first glass bead factory in 1969 in Amstetten, Lower Austria. Today SWARCO is the worldwide no. 2 in reflective glass microspheres for road safety applications, with bead plants in Austria, the USA, Germany and Saudi Arabia. Between 1970 and the 1990s, the group expanded into road marking materials, road marking contracting, and traffic signalling. Subsequently the introduction of the MEGALUX- BEADS technology, the development of the FUTURLED traffic light generation, the establishment of SWARCO s own Competence Centre for Glass Technology, and the diversification into Intelligent Transport Systems and traffic management represent milestones in guaranteeing the longer-term success of the Group. The growth of the SWARCO Group makes us also focus on corporate thinking, integration and consolidation in order to create a strong basis for the future, underlines COO Christian Bauer. At the same time we have to maintain a flexible organisation that is able to quickly react to the challenges and requirements of the market.

This carries forward SWARCO s move to act as system integrator and turnkey solution provider, initiated with the Nordic operations in Our customers are already able to choose from one of the largest portfolios of products, systems and services in the traffic industry, adds Bauer proudly. 3 QUESTIONS TO MANFRED SWAROVSKI Mr. Swarovski, which was the most important decision you had to make as entrepreneur during the past 40 years? MS: When I was working for the SWARE- FLEX division of the family s crystal business D. SWAROVSKI in the 1960s, we were experimenting with glass and glass beads to create road safety products. When I told my uncle Daniel Swarovski that we were also using recycling glass to create microspheres, he answered that this was nothing that would fit into the SWAROVSKI philosophy of high-quality cut crystal. He then asked me whether I would like to follow the recycling glass approach on my own. And this was when after thorough reflection I made the decision to set up my own business and produce glass beads from recycling glass to reflectorise road markings. And this was when SWARCO was born. How will the traffic technology market develop in the coming years? MS: The traffic technology market is shifting from mere products to complete systems and turnkey solutions. I am convinced that conventional road safety products such as glass beads and signs will persist. However, the trend is moving to cooperative systems for Vehicle-To-Infrastructure (V2I), Infrastructure-To-Vehicle (I2V) and Vehicle-To-Vehicle (V2V) communication. I am sure the future of traffic guidance and control will be much more based on in-car technologies. 16 16 INSIDE I DRIVE ON ACHIEVING MORE TOGETHER Since March 1st, 2009 the new organisation of SWARCO s traffic management business in Germany with the newly designed SIGNALBAU HUBER and DAMBACH-WERKE is being implemented. Richard Neumann (RN), Corporate Communications Manager, spoke with SWARCO COO and project leader Dr. Christian Bauer (CB) to learn more about the largest integration and synergy project in SWARCO s 40-year history. RN: Mr. Bauer, what triggered the necessity to reorganize SWARCO s traffic management activities in Germany? CB: Since 2007 SWARCO has continously extended its share in the German traffic technology group M.TECH AG, the companies of which play leading roles in urban and interurban traffic management in Germany and have a customer relation to us. Today we hold approx. 90% in this group. In spring 2008 M.TECH made a major step in acquiring Gaggenau-based DAMBACH-WERKE GmbH. As a consequence the product and services portfolio of the entire SWARCO Group was extended, giving us the opportunity to jointly target the market leadership in Germany. RN: What happened since the DAMBACH- WERKE acquisition in spring 2008? CB: In order to identify the synergies and to elaborate the integration components, expert teams of both the M.TECH Group and the SWARCO Group were formed. The different teams addressed all corporate aspects, from production and R&D through to human resources, via IT infrastructure to marketing, purchasing, service and sales with both the national and international perspective. Within the framework of a classical project management structure, the teams analysed overlaps and existing organisations and then identified and quantified synergy and improvements potentials. RN: Which are the responsibilities of the newly oriented companies? CB: The reorganisation is concisely expressed by the above 3-column graph with SWARCO as the foundation. We have decided to distinguish between B2B and B2C business and assigned clear responsibilities for Sales, Project and Service on the one hand (new SIGNALBAU HUBER) and Production and R&D (new DAMBACH-WERKE) on the other hand. The third component is internal services for Germany which are covered by an own legal entity (SWARCO SHARED SERVICE Germany). RN: What does this actually mean? CB: With SIGNALBAU HUBER GMBH A Company of the SWARCO Group we now show one face to the German market and cover all traffic technology areas, i.e. Urban, Interurban, Parking, Public Transport as well as Tunnel Equipment,

17 DRIVE ON I INSIDE 17 and provide services to ensure the highest possible systems availability. The sales, project and service activities of WEISS-ELECTRONIC and DAMBACH-WERKE are being integrated into the new SIGNALBAU HUBER GmbH. M-UNICOMP is functionally integrated. Trier remains the know-how pool for interurban matters. The market is handled from the head office in Unterensingen and through further locations all over Germany. All production, research and development activities are assigned to the new DAMBACH-WERKE GmbH A company of the SWARCO Group based in Gaggenau with further sites in Trier and Unterensingen. This company looks after the B2B business for Germany and international markets. Additionally, the company acts as B2C supplier for static traffic signs and DAMBACH Corporate Design solutions. Gaggenau remains the competence centre for static traffic signs, gantries, prism signs, parking guidance systems and tunnel products. The production of LED-based variable message signs will be concentrated at SWARCO FUTURIT. The development and production of controllers for traffic light systems will be pooled in Unterensingen. Interurban products are developed in Trier and Gaggenau. Trier the location of former WEISS-ELECTRONIC will also become the development competence centre for detection technology. The production is done in Gaggenau and Unterensingen. And last but not least SWARCO SHARED SERVICE GmbH based in Unterensingen acts as a provider of internal services in Germany. This company covers the functions accounting and controlling, information technology, human resources, strategic purchasing and quality management for the new SIGNALBAU HUBER GmbH and DAMBACH-WERKE GmbH and looks after M.TECH corporate controlling. RN: What are the benefits for the customer base in both the B2C and B2B business? CB: Whether they need a stand-alone solution or a complex integrated system with the new organisation our partners always have a personal contact and with this the certainty of a comprehensive competence with optimally designed systems and solutions. In concentrating our know-how and competences we are making a responsible step into the future. Our customers benefit from this in every respect. Our improved competitiveness contributes to safeguarding the future of our companies and their staffs. We can be a stronger partner to public authorities and corporate customers. The integration of knowledge and the use of best practice strengthen our innovative power in traffic management. Thanks to a clear segmentation into 4 sales and service regions and our dense network of service points, we are nearby and able to give quick local support nationwide. RN: Can you tell us a bit more about the size of the new companies? CB: The 3 German M.TECH companies will employ a total of approx. 750 people. For 2009 we have projected a consolidated turnover of some 160 MEUR which represents a little more than one third of SWARCO s total revenues expected in The first bids submitted and the first orders won within the new structure already now make us confident to have taken the right steps and that the new market approach is well accepted. RN: How are the new companies integrated from a corporate design point of view? CB: We maintain the strong and historically grown brands DAMBACH and SIGNALBAU HUBER while hinting in a subline at the fact that they are part of the SWARCO Group. SWARCO SHARED SERVICE is understood as a neutral internal service provider and therefore appears under the SWARCO umbrella brand. The gradual adaption to the SWARCO corporate design has been started. RN: What is the overall objective for the SWARCO Group in conjunction with the new organisation in Germany? CB: With a further complemented portfolio of products, systems, services and turn-key solutions in road marking, signage, traffic signalling and traffic management, the SWARCO Group is positioned among the leading traffic technology suppliers. Being part of the SWARCO Group opens to the German M.TECH companies many opportunities that we will jointly benefit from with our customers and partners in one of the largest traffic markets worldwide. We are convinced that together we are able to achieve more and get closer to SWARCO s corporate vision of becoming the first choice in road safety and intelligent traffic management worldwide. 18 18 SIGNALING I DRIVE ON SWARCO FUTURIT ECO-DESIGNED FUTURA GAINS GROUND In April 2008 SWARCO FUTURIT launched FUTURA the first-ever LED traffic signal in eco-design. Since then, customers throughout the world have learned to appreciate the unique combination of functionality and elegant style. Already installed at many traffic intersections throughout Austria, Germany, the Nordic countries, Romania and Kazakhstan, the feedback about FUTURA has been highly positive. In the words of one of our key customers from Finland: We arranged a dedicated customer day in Helsinki City. We showed them an example of a FUTURA signal head for their evaluation. The product is good particularly its design, light weight and colour intensity. Helsinki City selected the signal head for all of its 2009 projects. Northern lights Following the initial installation of FUTURA signal heads in the city of Lahti, Finland, additional units were recently supplied to Espoo, Finland. The traditional lamp signal heads were replaced with LED signal heads at 33 intersections. At 14 of the intersections the old signal head housings were retrofitted with up-to-date FUTURLED3 units. First installation of FUTURA in Lahti SWARCO FUTURIT INTERNATIONAL DEMAND FOR BRIGHT TRAFFIC SIGNAL SOLUTIONS From Skopje and Izmir via Cape Town and Accra to Buenos Aires and Lahore FUTURIT LED signals are the right solution for traffic control on (almost) all continents. Obsolete traffic signals in Macedonia s capital Skopje had to be replaced in a quick and efficient way. 90% less power consumption, central light source system, and the fulfillment of the strict requirements of the highest class of the European standard EN12368 were convincing facts for the city of Skopje to select the latest LED signal technology by SWARCO FUTURIT. 900 new units are in place since the end of This project got the ball rolling for the implementation of additional traffic solutions, including various control systems and an adaptive traffic management system. Despite separate tenders, orders were subsequently awarded to sister companies of SWARCO FUTURIT. Denmark-based SWARCO TECHNOLOGY will supply the traffic control system ITC-2 and Italian-based MIZAR AUTOMAZIONE will provide the wellknown SPOT/UTOPIA system. The municipality of Skopje is highly satisfied with the results. Mission Accomplished was reported also from Izmir. In just 2 months time, SWARCO FUTURIT delivered no less than 15,000 signal units to the Turkish city. With the help of our local partner, the municipality was convinced of the benefits of FUTURIT s central light source technology combined with a double lens system and easy integration of symbol masks. The international impact of SWARCO FUTURIT technology is further demonstrated by numerous installations in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Bloomfontein. Besides various cities in the USA and Canada, just recently Buenos Aires in Argentina decided to upgrade its intersections with 2,500 FUTURLED units. Hot climate is no problem for the products, as successful deployments in Kuwait City, Lahore/Pakistan and Accra/Ghana prove. SWARCO FUTURIT s LED modules can now be found in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. One continent is still missing. But believe us, we are already working on it.

19 DRIVE ON I SIGNALING 19 SWARCO FUTURIT VARIABLE MESSAGE SIGNS FOR ZURICH The variable message signs using SMD (surface-mounted device) circuit boards and components are well accepted by clients throughout Europe. The greater area of Zurich is the hub of an intricate road network in Switzerland. It was therefore decided to introduce the high-performance VIS (Traffic Information System) tool in the Canton of Zurich to improve the regional and national traffic information system. Based on its Europe-wide experience with RGB (Red-Green-Blue)-SMD technology for LED VMS, SWARCO FUTURIT was chosen as the partner for this project by a Swiss general contractor. equipped with full-colour, freely programmable LED technology. The individual VMS units have a width of seven metres and a height of about two metres. A depth of more than one metre was also required to provide accessibility. The know-how of SWARCO FUTURIT on the basis of similarly designed message boards in The Netherlands and in Scandinavia could be called upon. The most evident feature of this system for motorists is 11 large-sized variable message signs The road ahead VMS from SWARCO FUTURIT SWARCO V.S.M. OPTIMISED ACCESS TO A NEW STADIUM To help traffic to stay on the ball, SWARCO V.S.M. installed traffic equipment for the new Rhein-Neckar-Arena Stadium. Construction of the stadium, the new home of surprisingly performing Hoffenheim soccer team, was completed in early 2009 in the city of Sinsheim. It has a seating capacity of more than 30,000 spectators. For the direct connection with the BAB 6 highway, DAMBACH supplied the technical traffic equipment and was also responsible for the organisation of parking space for 2,100 vehicles. SWARCO V.S.M. was commissioned to carry out a considerable portion of the installation work. The contract included erection and connection work for the long-distance cable link, foundations and masts, signal heads and control systems at six different intersections on the arena premises. SWARCO V.S.M. MAKING GERMANY S LONGEST ROAD TUNNEL SAFER Additional lighting and illumination equipment for the Rennsteig Tunnel. SWARCO V.S.M. received one of its largest single contracts ever from Siemens Building Technologies located in Dresden, Germany. The safety-technical features of two 8,000 m long tunnel tubes in the Thuringia Forest area Germany s longest and most modern highway tunnel system will be improved with the installation of inductive LED lighting systems. Erection is to be completed within only 4½ months and must be carried out during night shifts, under traffic impact and with our own construction zone safety equipment. A total of 32,000 meters of system cables are to be laid and cast without residue within a mounting structure of 8 x 50 mm, along with 192 capacitor sets, 1,218 LED lighting modules and the associated connecting elements.

20 20 SIGNALING I DRIVE ON SHORT AND FAST SIGN SERVICE CENTRE The new SSC software of SWARCO FUTURIT is a VMS service and maintenance tool. Highly user-friendly, it quickly provides information about sign status and identifies any errors. It is not only possible to get information about error types, but also about defective parts. Thus, faulty LEDs and defective boards can be quickly identified and exchanged. Information about actual brightness settings or automatic dimming mode, service door status or controller temperature can be retrieved. New content can be uploaded onto the sign controller, activated and displayed on the user interface (WYSIWYG model). Logging history and possible errors during communication with the sign are also indicated. LED STREET LIGHTING Billions of kilowatt hours are used every year to light streets in the night. In addition to costs, this also causes CO 2 emissions that promote global warming. Thanks to recent developments of white LEDs, light output can now exceed 100 lm/w (lumens per Watt). SWARCO therefore is about to launch its first generation of LED streetlights. The main advantages include a reduced power consumption, dimmable functions, a much higher perceived lighting, immediate switch-on/switch-off, high colour rendering (CRI index), no infrared or ultraviolet emissions, and significantly lower CO 2 emissions. NEW CHINA VMS Ronald Trieb, GM of SWARCO ITS Shanghai, reports the successful introduction of a new VMS generation. Following a thorough analysis of the former VMS version in cooperation with Austrian SWARCO FUTURIT, the new VMS is a big step forward concerning reliability and monitoring. Now, direct communication and status control via the Internet is possible. IP 65 tightness is given thanks to a modified housing with new sealing. The new RGB system, officially certified by the Chinese Ministry of Communication and presented during Intertraffic China, performs well, as Shanghaibased customer SEARI reports. SWARCO SVERIGE NEW SERVICE MODEL FOR GOTHENBURG The service, management and maintenance of traffic signals in Sweden is usually provided by other companies than the original producers or suppliers. SWARCO can do it better. Traditionally, different contractors involved with electrical and road maintenance work performed the servicing of traffic signals. However, it can be argued that the best service and competence can be offered by the company that pushes product development forward. Thanks to SWARCO SVERIGE s dedicated staff and the reputation for quality and reliability, customers through- Total service of the local traffic signals out Sweden could be convinced of this opinion. Today the commitment of SWARCO in Gothenburg involves the total service of the local traffic signals on behalf of the traffic department. Thise also includes the maintenance of the city s SPOT system, an advanced programme for intelligent coordination of traffic signals. The contract period covers for five years, with the option of a three-year extension. The new service organisation in Gothenburg carries out projects, service and support work not only for traffic signals, but also for VMS, parking and public transport systems. Many of our contracts place high demands on fast fulfillment and service availability 24 hours a day, requiring utmost flexibility by our personnel. Invaluable experience could be accumulated from customers on the Swedish west coast and from development and producing companies, enabling SWARCO to continuously improve its traffic systems and products. This new venture has also opened up additional market opportunities. Improving our service capability Today, with a staff of about 30 persons, extensive service tasks are available for three product areas: traffic, parking and public transport. The workforce of SWARCO SVERIGE is based in three branch offices located in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Karlstad. Efforts are currently undertaken to unite the service organisations of the different product fields for each branch. The goal is to have an organisation that works across traditional borders. This will make it possible to implement the occasionally higher workload without having to hire external subcontractors.

21 DRIVE ON I SIGNALING 21 SWARCO FUTURIT SOUNDING OFF FOR SAFETY The optical brillance of internationally renowned AluStar LED traffic signals is now complemented by an acoustic unit. Attractive design, high efficiency and added value for pedestrians speak for this type of road furniture. For pedestrian signals, the proven functionality of AluStar has been extended by an integrated acoustic signal transmitter. Depending on the ambient noise level, the signal volume is automatically adjusted within 1-second update cycles. The maximum sound level is 90dB. A front speaker system is directed towards the crosswalk to acoustically guide the pedestrians. A second speaker at the signal bottom indicates the status of the pedestrian signal next to the pole area. It has a lower sound output to reduce noise pollution. The system parameters can be easily adapted by remote control. AluStar s fail-safe mechanism is based on redundancy monitored by two microcontrollers. In case 2-aspect AluStar with acoustic unit AluStar bottom view of safety-relevant abnormality, the unit will interlock itself, thus avoiding safety-critical situations. This state can only be manually reset by maintenance personnel on site. The first order is already under production for installation in Brussels. AluStar will be delivered completely assembled, so no separate mounting of the acoustic signal transmitter is necessary. A COMPANY CLIMATE OF INNOVATION SWARCO FUTURIT has already demonstrated its ecological awareness many times over, especially with the intelligent use of light-emitting diodes that only need a tenth of the power of conventional bulb light LED signals help to reduce global warming sources. With the LED traffic signal FUTURA, a 60% reduction in global-warming potential can be achieved. This is the result of a scientific life-cycle analysis in which a comparison was made with the previous signal generation. Numerous cities in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas have already converted their traffic signals to the advantageous LED technology of SWARCO FUTURIT. Well aware of the positive effects of LED signaling technology with respect to climate preservation, SWARCO FUTURIT is now working closely with the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) to further promote LED technology in outdoor lighting applications. This also includes street lighting, a still young field for LED light sources. In August 2006, Former President Clinton launched CCI to make a difference in the fight against climate change in practical, measurable and significant ways (

22 22 PUBLIC TRANSPORT I DRIVE ON SWARCO MIZAR AB STAYING ON TRACK IN SWEDEN Getting you there safe and fast Keeping a watchful eye on rail transport Since 1999, Gothenburg-based SWARCO MIZAR AB, has supplied software solutions for passenger information to Banverket, the Swedish Rail Administration. High satisfaction with the product has been the basis for a successful long-term supplier-customer relationship. The well proven Linaria TT Rail, developed by the SWARCO MIZAR software team, is the common information system of Banverket for all passenger displays at railway platforms and terminals across Sweden. The software is an integrated part of the national railway-information system, and it also feeds Banverket s web portal with detailed train departure and arrival information. The software provides the input for PA announcements at all Swedish railway stations. The Linaria TT Rail information system is continuously updated with new functionalities based on requirements from operators and customers. This is accomplished in a close cooperation between Banverket and SWARCO MIZAR. Over 800 displays delivered In 2002, SWARCO MIZAR was awarded a framework contract to supply platform and monitor displays to national railway stations. The contract was renewed in 2008 with Banverket for another four years, with the option of an additional 3-year extension. A total of over 800 displays in different shapes and sizes have since been delivered. The ongoing volumes are approximately displays per year. Together with Banverket, SWARCO MIZAR has developed a portfolio of communication solutions for the integration with displays, sensors and PA systems, both wired and wireless. These are installed in the dedicated GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications Railway) network owned by Banverket. As a supplier for both software and hardware solutions, personnel training for service and maintenance staff is carried out for Banverket and their contractors.

23 DRIVE ON I PUBLIC TRANSPORT 23 LEA NEW PUBLIC INFORMATION DISPLAYS SAY IT ALL The signs of the times With Slovenian-based LEA joining the group, SWARCO is now able to supply LED-based publicinformation displays. Following intense development of LED passengerinformation displays, LEA has recently expanded their product portfolio with the introduction of a new LED terminal display and LED scrolling-text display. The first applications will be at public transportation stops in London and Italy. On the streets of London The bus-stop display Transport for London project was developed for the needs of bus stops in the UK capital. It is an example of a compact display. Its main advantages are modern design, easy service access, top-quality SMD LED technology, advanced diagnostics, various solutions for communicating with the control centre, voice-announcement system for persons with impaired hearing and much more. Weighing no more than 12 kg, the sign operates at a temperature range from -20 to +60 C. Saying it loud and clear The bus stop display SWARCO MIZAR Italy was developed on the basis of specifications by MI- ZAR s Swedish public transport branch. Larger in size than the display for London, it allows more message content to be shown. The LED diodes employed have an extremely high intensity. Together with newly developed Venetian blinds (sunshades), superb optical characteristics can be achieved. The product itself represents a combination of advanced technical solutions, top-quality materials and numerous upgrading possibilities. SWARCO MIZAR AB INFORMATION ON 800 BUSES A DAY A clear overview of bus arrivals and departures using Linaria is the basis for efficient bus transportation in Sweden s capital city. Cityterminalen is the largest bus station of Stockholm. Each day around 800 buses use this facility. From here, it is possible to travel to all of Sweden as well as to a large part of Europe. A Linaria traffic information system was installed by SWARCO MIZAR, which represents the largest LCD main display ever delivered by the company. High-resolution 24 -TFT (thin-film transistor) monitors with boarding signals are installed at every gate. Throughout the terminal, information stands with 46 - and 32 -TFT monitors provide timely bus information to passengers. In this project SWARCO MIZAR, together with a welding company, installed all the information On-line and on-time stands, cases for the monitors and the gate portals. The c software team developed Gaterunner which provides a graphical overview of the bus departures and arrivals. Other new functions input the bus departures onto the web, allowing bus companies to book their arrivals by means of the Cityterminalen website. The handling of invoices is facilitated by the integration of Linaria and the City Terminal invoice system.

24 24 ROAD MARKING I DRIVE ON NEWS FROM THE U.S. SWARCO INDUSTRIES INC. announces the launch of their new wet-reflective temporary construction zone tape. Director-2 WR is an innovative and economical safety solution to guide motorists through road construction zones under both dry and wet nighttime driving conditions. Using SWARCO s own premium reflective optic systems, the tape provides temporary reflective markings which create longer viewing distances for motorists driving into and through construction zones. The superior reflectivity is also visible during hazardous rain conditions. 26 26 ROAD MARKING I DRIVE ON LIMBURGER LACKFABRIK MARKINGS FOR PARKING Durable markings in parking houses and garages are safety, convenience and efficiency factors. The specialists of LIMBURGER LACKFABRIK GmbH, Germany s largest manufacturer of liquid road marking materials, give an overview on their sustainable solutions for various surface types. Generally LIMBURGER LACKFABRIK s indoor marking materials are characterised by excellent resistance against chemicals, abrasion resistance, durability and little tendency to attract dirt. But which product is best suited for a certain purpose? Markings on uncoated concrete surfaces For stable concrete or cement screed we recommend to apply a 2-component high solid epoxy resin paint (2-K K809 Indoor Paint). This sprayable quality product is immune to residual humidity and provides a durable marking that can be passed over shortly after application. The matt marking surface can be additionally protected by applying a 2-component UV clear varnish. The special floor surfaces in parking houses and garages require different marking products and techniques. Markings on reaction resin coatings While uncoated concrete floors are less frequently used, a large number of garage floors is nowadays protected with so-called OS coatings (surface protection systems, classified OS 8, OS 11 or OS 13). As a rule epoxy resin top sealants should not be marked on with one-component marking materials. Ideal solutions are 2-component marking materials such as 2-K K809 Indoor Paint, 2-K Acrylic Indoor Paint or 2-K LimboClearLine Indoor Paint with silk lustre topcoat. Best long term performance is achieved when the marking paint is applied within 48 hours after the top sealant. In case the OS floor sealing is done in a light colour shade (e.g. RAL 7038, RAL 7035), the usual white marking can be replaced by a darker shade in order to guarantee the necessary contrast. A test application helps to clarify this.

27 DRIVE ON I ROAD MARKING 27 Selection criteria for indoor markings Markings on bituminous surfaces This concerns mastic asphalt surfaces or cold applied, thinner bitumen emulsion screeds. For rough, partly chipped mastic asphalt surfaces, thick-layer 2-component H145 Indoor Coldplastic (matt surface) and H155 Indoor Coldplastic (glossy surface) deliver best results. Bitumen emulsion screeds can still be found in older garages. Surface qualities vary from relatively smooth to rough. That is why a test marking is recommended to identify the suitable marking material. In principle the above mentioned Indoor Coldplastic types or 2-component paints can be applied. Type and state of surface Place, geometry and application time of marking Intensity of traffic impact (stationary traffic, car or truck traffic, etc.) Expected contamination intensity in conjunction with wear resistance against cleaning measures Results of test coatings and bonding tests More information on products and surface types can be found in the Technical Information documents of LIMBURGER LACKFABRIK. For downloads please refer to Markings on concrete composite stone On outdoor surfaces and garage floors with earth substrate, concrete composite stones are used. 2-K K809 Indoor Paint lends itself as epoxy resin marking immune to raised ground humidity. Prior to applicaiton, a thorough cleaning of older and contaminated pavements is recommended. More safety and orientation with luminescent products Daylight luminescent paints: Sidewalks, kerbs, no-go traffic zones etc. often need clear extra marking. Durable results are achieved with 2-K FLUOX Daylight Luminescent Paint System and 2-K FLUOX Daylight Luminescent Plastic (2-component coldplastic of 1-3 mm layer thickness). The finish with 2-K UV Clear Varnish adds UV stability and makes the marking more dirtrepellent in the long run. Afterglow products: Phosphorescent systems, e.g. for arrow markings, can be part of an emergency lighting system. The special pigments of these marking products are charged by normal light and then emit this energy as visible light in darkness. The afterglow duration increases with the thickness of the light-accumulating layer. For layer thicknesses up to approx. 1 mm the right product is the 2-K Afterglow Paint System consisting of primer, afterglow paint and UV clear varnish. 29 DRIVE ON I PARKING 29 SWARCO PARKING SYSTEMS IN ØRESTADEN CITY PARKING HAS NEVER BEEN SO CONVENIENT! Ørestaden as it is today (left) and what it will look like in 2020 (right) For new multi-storied parking buildings in the Copenhagen city district of Ørestaden, SWARCO DENMARK supplied efficient equipment and systems to facilitate parking. Ørestaden is the name of a new city district of Copenhagen. Partly completed in 2002, this area will expand until the year 2020 to accommodate homes for 20,000 people, offer working possibilities for 60,000 employees, and provide educational opportunities for 20,000 children and students. Ørestaden is a direct extension of the existing city and is located close to transportation junctions such as the City Metro, motorways, Copenhagen Airport and the cross-sea bridge to Sweden. It has a breadth of five kilometers from Copenhagen to Copenhagen Airport and covers an area of three million square meters. Far-sighted parking concept It was decided early on by the municipal authorities of Ørestaden to implement a parking strategy which would assure widely available and easily accessible parking spaces. The plan foresaw multi-storiedey parking for all cars and motorcycles. In support of the idea that motor vehicles should also be a part of daily life in the city district, it was determined that the maximum distance from a business firm or private apartment to a parking site should never be more than 200 metres. In the first stage of this far-sighted parking concept, a total of 16 multi-storied parking sites were built, the first eight of which were equipped with parking systems from SWARCO. Since 2004, SWARCO DENMARK has supplied advanced parking systems to Ørestaden. In order to satisfy EU regulations, a new project for a 3-year framework contract was tendered in SWARCO bid and won the order and has since installed seven additional parking systems in Ørestaden. World s best housing design Ørestaden is not just a series of traditional concrete buildings in which people live and work. Far more, it is an area where new ideas in architecture, urban environments and the related parkingspace requirements are integrated into the daily fabric of life. 30 30 CI-PRODUCTS I DRIVE ON DAMBACH CORPORATE DESIGN THE POWER OF SIGNS Right on time for the start of the season in spring 2009, DAMBACH CORPORATE DESIGN has fitted out Honda Power Equipment s first fifty trading partners with new and eye-catching CI signs. This is the start signal for the ongoing equipping of further Platinum and Gold partners throughout the German-speaking area and the Benelux countries over the next five years. During the past year, in close cooperation with the specialist departments of Honda Motor Europe (North) GmbH in Offenbach, Germany, preparations were completed for the provision of a large number of selected dealers with the new CI signs in the course of this spring. The project for the optimisation of the external appearance of Honda dealers is scheduled to last five years and all the new design elements have been developed in line with the precise stipulations laid down in the CI programme. However, as Felix Büch, DAMBACH CORPORATE DESIGN Sales Manager, explains, Even this relatively tight framework often leaves space for differing solutions and design versions. Through the production of a range of samples and subsequent measurements and checks in our light laboratory, the finished elements, which have now largely been produced, were developed and optimised to an extent that in the long-term they will continue to meet the requirements placed on signage. In addition, Honda s special wish that these elements would have minimum impact upon resources and the environment was also fulfilled. This is exemplified by the fact that the very latest LED technology, which offers great energy efficiency, is being used for illumination purposes.

31 DRIVE ON I SPORTS 31 SWARCO RAIDERS TIROL AMERICAN FOOTBALL SHORT SEASON PREVIEW 2009 With the onset of the New Year, changes have come with it. In 2008 the Raiders were crowned EuroBowl champs and with this consequently the #1 team in all of Europe. However the 2009 campaign already sits on the door step and along with it some new faces and a handful of changes that will make the coming season as defending champs an exciting and compelling season! Former Head Coach Geoff Buffum left the Raiders to pursue his coaching career in the US. The organization then elevated Raiders veteran Defensive Coordinator, Santos Carrillo, to the top post as the new Head Coach of the Raiders. With Coach Buffum s departure, a hole was left on the offensive side. With this in mind Coach Carrillo went out and found an experienced and highly successful Offensive Coordinator in Coach Carl Iverson. With over 29 years of coaching experience under his belt, he brings a wealth of offensive experience to the Raiders. He most recently was the OC at Western State College of Colorado. Changing rules Another new spin on the 2009 Season is one that will have the entire AFL making adjustments. In an effort to continue to strengthen the impact of local players, the league reduced the amount of import players from six down to four. To this end, the Raiders have parted ways with a group of imports that has largely remained unchanged over the last few years. Along with the league rule change, the Raiders will be welcoming to the team four new exciting and true impact players. Despite the changes, the hunger for continued success has not subsided with a large core of very experienced Austrians still in top form. As any season, the 2009 campaign promises to bring many challenges, but the Raiders have been vigorously training all off season and are prepared to make a stand and take their title defence on the road.
