14 Kistler Calibration Service Established quality guidelines necessitate regular calibration of your sensors and measuring instruments. Calibration determines the relation between the measured value and a reference value. The measuring equipment used for calibration is traceable to national measurement standards and subject to internationally harmonized quality assurance. Calibration certificates document the values measured during calibration and the conditions under which it is carried out. Depending on the situation, one of the following is recommended in practice: Kistler factory calibration Kistler in-situ calibration What is calibrated? Kistler's Calibration Service carries out direct calibration of your: Force sensors and dynamometers Torque sensors Charge amplifiers NC joining systems with integral force monitoring Process forces in the force shunt mode or indirectly via the strain experienced by the machine's frame Custom partial ranges Custom setups and force application configurations How long does the calibration remain valid? Specification of calibration intervals is basically the responsibility of the user and depends on how often the produced workpieces are used and the extent to which they affect safety. Kistler Calibration Service Kistler offers a complete service covering every aspect of calibration: Test equipment calibration Accredited calibration laboratories (Swiss Calibration Service (SCS) and German Calibration Service (DKD), ANSI ASQ National Accreditation Board/ACLASS (US)) Comprehensive operational testing Wide-ranging certification documentation Calibration at a Glance Calibration leads to accurate and reliable measurements, internationally comparable measurements and mechanically compatible similar products Factory Calibration For factory calibration, a Kistler sensor or measuring amplifier is sent in by the customer to the nearest Kistler Service Center, which calibrates it in its laboratory. If a Service Center is not equipped to carry out the required calibration, it is automatically passed on to a competent Kistler laboratory. Reference standards must be calibrated in an accredited calibration laboratory. Kistler operates its own accredited calibration laboratories for its most commonly encountered measurands. Advantages of Factory Calibration + Standardized calibration under laboratory conditions + Continuous calibration over the entire measuring range + Direct availability of our factory infrastructure when repair or adjustment needed 14
15 Kistler Calibration Service In-situ Calibration The In-situ Calibration Service of the Kistler group ensures force calibration can be performed on the spot with minimum downtime whether this is in production, development or the test facility. What's the procedure involved? Your Kistler service technician brings the complete calibration unit right to the point of use. Calibration is best carried with the sensors mounted. This ensures all of the factors (force shunt, operating temperature, etc.) are taken into account. Calibration method In-situ calibration involves loading the frame of your machine under conditions that are as realistic as possible. The resultant output signal is recorded and compared with the reference signal measured at the same time. Depending on the mounting situation of the measuring system, different methods of calibration can be used: Operating point calibration Step by step calibration at several points Continuous calibration Calibration with adjustment Machine capability analysis The load is repeatedly increased to a predefined number of points to obtain information about the magnitude and scatter of the measured variable. This is used to determine and traceably certify the machine capability (Cm, Cmk, etc.). Measurement traceability One central requirement of quality assurance is traceability of the utilized measurement systems and references to national standards. Kistler's In-situ Calibration Service meets these DIN EN ISO 9000 requirements. What requirements have to be met? System availability ensured by your scheduling The ambient conditions at the point of calibration must not impermissibly affect calibration The systems must be clearly identifiable The force application options must match the required calibration method Advantages of In-situ Calibration + Minimization of the idle time of your measuring systems and machines + Costs reduced by assembling sensors in larger groups for calibration + No packing and shipment costs + No transport risks + Problems solved right on the spot + On-site expertise for service and questioning 15
