To provide ease of use by foodservice operators, Kraft YES Pack incorporates a two-handle design and a smaller spout, making the package easier to carry and pour. The use of flexible materials versus a rigid container affords the customer a package that was manufactured using approximately 50 percent less energy and 60 percent less plastic material. The Highest Achievement Award is given to a Gold Award winning package ranked by the judges as having contributed most to the advancement of the industry. 9

Emblem Asia, Bostik India Private Limited Package Description: Aashirvaad Select 5Kg package is a stand-up pack with authentic looks. The best part of the pouch is the brilliance in printing. The main desired property to achieve from PE film was high dart impact strength. The combination of gloss and matte effect has given an abstract look to highlight certain areas of the pack. 11

12 Gold Awards Amcor PushPop Gold Packaging Excellence Manufacturer: Amcor Flexibles End User/Customer: Savvy Green Plant: Auburn, WA Package Description: Amcor s patent pending PushPop adds a fun factor to portion control packaging. The packaging material and package design combine to provide an easy open, convenient package. Existing form-fill-seal equipment can be retrofitted at a modest cost to produce this gusseted pouch. The enhanced consumer experience of the opening feature supports the use of this portion control package as an element of a healthier approach to eating. Amcor produces PushPop in both North America and Europe. 12

Savvy Green is a great example of a new application. It s the first primary flexible package to participate in the HOW2RECYCLE program. The pouch display is excellent with improved stiffness and HD flexo graphics. It meets No. 2 SPI ASTM classification Designation D7611/D7611M-10, and is Trex approved. 13

End User/Customer: CardioFocus Plant: Saddle Brook, NJ Designer/Design Firm: Al Stancampiano (CardioFocus) and Greg Dahl (Dahl Packaging Corporation) Key Suppliers: Beacon Converters, Incorporated Package Description: The Beacon/CardioFocus HeartLight System provides a flexible packaging solution for large, complex devices, using less energy to manufacture, ship and warehouse. Compared to the rigid alternative, this package reduces packaging volume by 32 percent and weight by 50 percent. Innovative packaging design collaboration resulted in a die cut tray with functional components, which are cut from a single sheet of flexible HDPE. The tray can be used as a catheter prep table and after use, knocked down flat and rolled up for recycling. 14

The latest technology is Sonoco s micro-perforated stick wrap that helps facilitate consumer usage of the product while maintaining the barrier properties keeping the remaining product fresh. With a simple twist of the package, the consumer has their individual cough drop and the rest of the product stays in place. 16

Plant: Lima, Peru Designer/Design Firm: P&D Andina / PERUPLAST Key Suppliers: ESTER Industries, Dow Química Argentina S.A., Coim Brasil Ltda Package Description: This package superbly presents the Kusi Wayta (Flower of Joy) product, consisting of selected snacks prepared with native Peruvian fruits and seeds. The packaging format and the graphics featuring native motifs and landmarks perform the function of communicating very effectively to the consumer the gourmet and native characteristics of the product, the material structure providing the required protection for the sensitive contents. A smart distribution of glossy and matte areas greatly enhances its shelf impact. 17

American Packaging used gravure printing to emphasize the detail of this label. The tight register control and the use of gravure cylinders enabled us to maintain color/color print registration. The use of the metallic substrate captures the design and the unique matte/gloss combination adds recognizable style to this high-end product. 18

19 Silver Awards Bolthouse Farms Shakedowns Silver Technical Innovation Manufacturer: Emerald Packaging Incorporated End User/Customer: Bolthouse Farms Plant: Union City, CA Designer/Design Firm: Emerald Packaging/Bolthouse Farms Key Suppliers: Techlfex Packaging LLC Package Description: The Bolthouse Farms Shakedowns package has changed the landscape in the unit level segment of the fresh cut produce market. The interactive nature of the package brings consumers into the role of participant in preparing their vegetables in a simple and fun way. This is done in a single package combining wet and dry products without compromising shelf life of the carrots. Campbell s Skillet Sauces Silver Packaging Excellence Manufacturer: Ampac End User/Customer: Campbell s Plant: Hanover Park, IL Package Description: The Campbell s Skillet Sauces line introduces a new package format using a stand up pouch in a category that is traditionally packaged in glass jars or aluminum cans. The rotogravure printed pouch utilizes a pattern matte varnish and is coupled with a shaped, non-rocking bottom. This package includes linear tear technology and a clear bottom gusset. 19

Industries Limited Plant: Macedon, NY Designer/Design Firm: Marovino Visual Strategy, Incorporated Key Suppliers: Flint Group Package Description: This is a package for fresh bread. The entry uses HD Flexo imaging and utilized a new printing technology combining new era metallic and pearlescent inks to provide the customer with a high impact package and new eye catching design that will differentiate their product from the competition. HD Flexo provides more detail and much sharper imagery. This new printing technology combines the latest metallic and pearlescent inks resulting in an eye catching and appealing appearance. Chameleon Color-Changing Sealant Silver Technical Innovation Manufacturer: Rollprint Packaging Products, Incorporated End User/Customer: Information not available Plant: Addison, IL Designer/Design Firm: Rollprint Packaging Products, Incorporated Package Description: Chameleon Color-Changing Sealant has been engineered to allow a film of one color to transfer a peel indicator of a different color providing a strong visual indication that the package has been opened. The transparent nature of the color application allows the product to be viewed while still in the package. Its advanced technology and unique appearance is a very cost-effective tool in providing brand protection. 20

A tab located near the top is peeled off to initially open the package. To close, simply fold the top over and press. It is easy to open, dispense and reclose for consumers of all ages. This package reduces leaker rates, uses less material (decreases at least two inches) than conventional pouches and enables better space utilization in transit and on shelf making it a more sustainable package. Crystal Farms Shredded Cheese Stand Up Pouch Silver Environmental & Sustainability Achievement Manufacturer: Exopack, LLC End User/Customer: Information not available Plant: Menasha, WI Package Description: Crystal Farms Shredded Cheese Stand Up Pouch replaces the previous flat bag providing consumer convenience at home. It uses 20 percent less material than the earlier version and features 30 percent less face area which enables retailers to fit more of the product into the space in the dairy case. It also reduces the amount of corrugated required to ship the product leading to fuel savings. The new double zipper improves the closure s performance, which helps protect the cheese inside. 21

Amcor s Dent Resistant Compact Formpack extends the use of flexible packaging to medications that are improving healthcare while containing costs. Easy Peel Lidding for High Pressure Pasteurization Silver Technical Innovation Manufacturer: Berry Plastics Corporation End User/Customer: Sandridge Food Corporation Plant: Macedon, NY Designer/Design Firm: Bryan Gillespie Package Description: High pressure pasteurization is a growing trend in the food industry. The abuse of packaging from this technique requires higher performance films to meet standards. Berry Plastics multilayer co-extrusion technology and polymer knowledge provided a solution, bringing a significant improvement to a challenging process. Product benefits include reduced leaker rates, increased production, and assurance of package integrity through distribution and retail. The flat-bottom pouches have a registered matte/gloss design, are completely air-tight & gas flushable, and have the VELCRO Brand PRESS-LOK closure system. The PRESS-LOK hook-to-hook closure is a truly unique, user-friendly closure. It contains easy alignment that allows the hooks to line-up, securing easy & reliable closure and therefore ultimate consumer convenience. Nestle Purina ONE Cat Silver Printing Achievement Manufacturer: Exopack, LLC End User/Customer: Nestle Plant: Tomah, WI Package Description: The Nestle Purina ONE cat food bag manufactured by Exopack eliminates the need for a reverse printed PET out layer of film by utilizing a surface printed MET PET layer combined with EB coating. This process provides the customer with a visually appealing metalized package that maintains superior ink protection throughout traditional distribution channels. The elimination of the reverse printed PET layer also allows for reduced costs associated lamination set-up and run-time. 24

The unique, patented process offers a wide range of benefits including reuse of stock material, and updating packaging graphics and text. Overprinting also reduces material scrap to the landfill, resulting in less environmental impact. Simply Heinz Single Serve Mayonnaise Sachet Silver Environmental & Sustainability Achievement Manufacturer: cei (Coating Excellence International) End User/Customer: HJ Heinz Company, L.P. Plant: Appleton, WI Designer/Design Firm: Dave Banik, Rick Bellile Package Description: The new high barrier Simply Heinz mayonnaise sachet replaces traditional aluminum foil structures, providing cost savings and a more sustainable product. The sachet contains 30% renewable content with its cellophane component. Additionally, incorporating the metalized OPP layer eliminates the need for foil while still providing high barrier and a higher renewable resource content. No solvents are used throughout the entire manufacturing process, avoiding any Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), which are known to harm the environment. 25
