1 Media Release Johannesburg, Monday, 05 September SABC has reaffirmed its media partnership with the Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition taking place from 07 to 10 September at the SABC. There are over 100 panellists participating in over 12 topics - 5 breakaways, 5 plenaries, 2 workshops, as well as a music managers meeting. This year s theme is titled, Censored: When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised. SABC spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago says, It is no coincidence that the SABC is the strategic broadcast partner for Moshito. The SABC is the custodian of the countries cultural expressions and music heritage and therefore our role is to tell the creative industries story, whether it is through film or music. We will continue to support the music conference and host it within the SABC premises, where it was first broadcast. Some of the topics that will form part of the discussions include, Live Events & Production, Song Sampling, a managers round table discussion as well as a demo presentation among in which one up and coming talent stands a chance to walk away with R Moshito Prize (Trophy and title of the Moshito 2015 Demo Presentation Competition Winner, Funding the production and recording of two songs, Short biography, Artwork of the CD cliché, Radio sampling and interview, Photo shoot). Young talent, Marley Bloo! was the 2015 winner of this prize and it helped her launch her music career. There will be opportunities for everyone at the conference. Catch presentations by South African and International music industry icons like Sipho Hotstix Mabuse, Tu Nokwe, Matt Sonzala (SXSW, USA), Reason, Oskido, Justin Van Wyk (Big Concerts), to name but a few. 4 Plenary M1 Studio: 11h00-12h30 Topic ONE: Censored: When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised Any music innovation is full of danger to the whole State, and ought to be prohibited - Plato This session will look at the artistic voices whose music was an irritation to the State and had to be silenced. Musicians used hidden transcripts and subversive artistic expressions to articulate their views on the social economic and political conditions of the time. The world changes, Revolutionaries die & the children forget the ghetto is our first love and our dreams are drenched in gold. We don t even cry; we don t even cry about it no more. 10 9TH SEPTEMBER 2015 DAY TWO Workshop M1 STUDIO 09H00 11h00 Topic SEVEN: Let Your Music Speak: Demo Presentations Music is objective, music never lies. There is no face attached to the music but only the sound draws attention to the listener and that is how music gets judged. Many unsigned bands and artists record demos in order to obtain a recording contract. These demos are usually sent to record labels in hopes that the artist will be signed by the label's roster and allowed to record a full-length album in a professional recording studio. However, large record labels usually ignore unsolicited demos that are sent to them by mail; artists generally must be more creative about getting the demos into the hands of the people who make decisions for the record company. Musicians, producers and composers will be given an opportunity to present their musical works to a panel of music publishers, record labels, and A&R and advertising agents.
