Noongar Radio100.9fm a strong, positive voice for Indigenous People SPONSORSHIP KIT
Hello my name is Wayne Bynder, Station Manager of Noongar Radio. Thank you for agreeing to have a look at Noongar Radio s sponsorship kit fm is a not for profit community radio station, set up to provide positive and empowering programming for the Noongar community of Perth. However, we have found our refreshing style of presentation and high rotation of Indigenous music is appealing to all sections of the community. If you decide to run a campaign on our station, you will not only be getting your message out to our ever growing audience, you will be helping to support the only Aboriginal radio station in Perth. As a new client, you can also take advantage of our special introductory offer of free radio spots on air! Like all community radio stations, we need sponsorship to continue to grow and survive. An investment in Noongar Radio is an investment in the positive promotion of Aboriginal people and culture in WA. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
About Noongar Radio Noongar Radio is Perth s only Indigenous radio station. It was established in 2009 to provide a strong voice and positive representation of Indigenous People in Western Australia. Noongar Radio broadcasts on FM and through live web streaming. Noongar Radio is a not for profit Aboriginal owned and operated organisation, which is proudly governed by an all Indigenous board. The organisation is a subsidiary of 6NME Noongar Media Enterprises and owned by Peedac Pty Ltd. Peedac is a not for profit organisation that provides a range of community services including training and employment for Indigenous People and has been in operation since The association with Peedac has enabled Noongar Radio to benefit from complimentary services, experience in program delivery and strong management expertise. Noongar Radio is committed to promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Artists. Every third song aired is Indigenous and the station regularly runs special features dedicated to profiling and supporting singers, songwriters and musicians in the community. All of Noongar Radio Broadcasters are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders and our weekday presenters are all from Noongar Country. In just over two years, Noongar Radio has gone from strength to strength with the positive style of presentation and high-rotation of Indigenous music attracting a loyal following from all sectors of the community. Within its first year of operation the station was nominated for a National Deadly Award for best community broadcaster. As a community station it requires sponsorship in order to grow and thrive. Noongar Radio has big plans to build on its success and is seeking partnerships with organisations that want to help inspire and empower Indigenous people. Hey Noongar Radio, keep up the deadly work, you make us proud (Listener feedback 2013) Noongar Radio is doing a very professional job. Especially love Friday nights and the Prison Request Show. (Listener feedback 2013)
The Noongar People are Indigenous Australians from the South-West portion of Western Australia, an area roughly defined from Geraldton on the West Coast to Esperance on the South cost. Noongar People have lived in the area for at least the last 45,000 years and are one of the largest Indigenous groups in Western Australia. Our Audience Noongar Radio has a community broadcast licence covering the wider Perth metropolitan area. This area is estimated to include over 1,163,300 people above the age of 15 years. Broadcasts are also streamed live over the internet, which has generated a loyal following of listeners all over the globe. Over a third of Western Australia s indigenous population is located in Perth. Although program content is designed to appeal to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, it has been found that Noongar Radio also has a significant number of Non-Indigenous listeners. Anecdotal evidence and increased program participation suggest the number of Noongar Radio listeners has grown steadily year on year. It should be noted that the popularity of community radio in Perth is significantly higher than the national average. McNair Ingenuity research found that 37% of Perth s 15 + population listen to a community radio station in a typical week and 63% listen in an average month (2010). This research also found that the average Perth listener will tune in for an impressive 7. 4 hours in a typical week, indicating a high level of engagement and loyalty to their community radio station. My boyfriend and I are huge fans of the station and listen daily. We love the mix of music and are very happy that the owners of this land finally have their very own radio station. (Listener feedback 2012)
Our role in the community Noongar Radio is much more than just a station that plays great music. The programming is focused on making real steps towards reconciliation by broadcasting positive, empowering and inspirational stories from the Aboriginal community. Noongar Radio plays an important role in the Western Australian Indigenous community in a number of ways: Promotes and celebrates the achievements of Indigenous artists Preserves the Noongar language through recorded music and stories Broadcasts National Indigenous News and community announcements Shares the Noongar cultural identity, stories and language with a wide audience Provides training in broadcasting and editing Indigenous employment Noongar Radio was recognised for this significant community contribution, winning the NAIDOC award for best not for profit organisation in Some of our programs have received National Awards. Hello Noongar Station. Love the Abmusic show. I m new in Perth (Koori Fella) and didn t realise there was such a place to study music Great music they played too (Listener feedback 2011) I listen to Noongar Radio at home in the car and even on the internet. I have to say that 100.9fm is definitely my station (Listener feedback 2011)
Benefits of Sponsorship If your organisation needs to communicate directly with an Indigenous Audience, then Noongar Radio is the perfect media for you. Noongar Radio is the only Indigenous radio station in Perth and more than a third of Western Australia s Indigenous population lives in the city. As a community radio station we cannot air more than five minutes of sponsorship announcements per hour, which means your message won t get lost in a sea of advertising. Our range of programs appeal to different age groups and listener types. We can assist you in developing a targeted campaign to reach a particular demographic profile. Noongar Radio offers sponsors an opportunity for their message to be professionally delivered by Indigenous staff, to make sure it reaches the audience in the most effective way. Sponsorship of Noongar Radio is an investment in the community and helps to promote indigenous culture and reconciliation. Sponsor details are published on the Noongar Radio website. AADS - Aboriginal Alcohol & Drug Abuse Service has found Noongar Radio to be an effective way of advertising employment and messages about Alcohol and Drug issues in a culturally secure way. The National Congress of Australia's First Peoples has found Noongar Radio to be an effective way of creating awareness of our organisation and an effective vehicle for delivering key messages from our organisation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Perth.
