B Setting the Time Range ¾¾Select in the Start / Stop area the window of time in which to search. C Starting Search ¾¾Click Search in order to start the search process. 36

The results of the search are presented in an event list. The display Hit x/y shows the number of hits found under y and the number of the hit currently selected under x (see step D). Fig. 8-8 D Viewing Results ¾¾Click on a result from the list to display a detected event. ¾¾Move with the arrow buttons an event forward or backward Advanced Search Options The search function is always carried out in accordance with the course described above. The search result can be affected by settings in the Advanced Search Options dialog. ¾¾Select the SmartFinder tab. ¾¾Open the Advanced Search Options dialog with click on Options. Fig. 8-9 Image changes are generally displayed as rectangular fields. You can specify in the Draw Mode section whether the display is to be realized as individual fields or as a combination of fields. In the Search-Mode a relationship is established between these rectangles (image changes) and the marking drawn by you. 37

Draw-Mode The Draw-Mode affects the appearance of the existing image changes. Rectangle If you have activated Rectangle in the Draw-Mode, all the changes are each displayed with a rectangle, whereby rectangles may also be positioned partially on top of each other. If you have not activated Rectangle in the Draw-Mode, adjacent and overlapping rectangles are combined into a single area. Fig Option Rectangle activated Fig Option Rectangle not activated 38

Intersection If you have activated Intersection in the Draw-Mode, only those rectangles are displayed that are linked correspondingly with the marking drawn by you, depending on the search method (see section Search Mode ). If you have not activated Intersection, all the rectangles are displayed. Fig Option Intersection activated Fig Option Intersection not activated Search Mode The selection in the Search-Mode field are theoretically used to specify the search method and thus the number of relevant events. Balance Point Search The rectangles that mark a figure change have an imaginary geometric balance point assigned. If Balance Point Search is activated, a hit is always listed when this geometric balance point lies within the marking drawn by you. 39

Fig Balance point within the marking = Hit Fig Balance point outside the marking = No hit Intersection Search If Intersection Search is activated, you already obtain a search result when a rectangle of a figure change intersects the marking drawn by you by even the smallest amount. The geometric balance point is not of relevance then. Fig Rectangles intersect the marking = Hit 40

General Comparison Of The Search Modes If one compares the two search modes, it becomes clear that more search results (hits) result during an Intersection Search than during a Balance Point Search. However, there is a danger at a Balance Point Search that too few search results are available and that a relevant event is not listed. If you cannot define the search range (marking) exactly at first, you should first activate the Intersection Search mode. After a rough analysis you can set your marking again and specify a narrower selection with the Balance Point Search. 41

9 Export and Import The recordings can be saved (exported) as single images or sequence. These single images and sequences can be evaluated afterwards with the Dallmeier SMAVIA Viewing Client. The exported images meet the LGC Forensics requirements as well as the recordings. Exported single images and sequences can also be imported and evaluated again at the appliance. 9.1 Export The recordings of the appliance can be stored as single images or sequences to an external medium Detailed Export The detailed export is activated in the device default configuration. It allows the exact definition of the relevant images, sequences and tracks. First step is the selection of the relevant single images and sequences. They are displayed all together in an export list where several export options can be set. The export list always refers to the current playback. The export list is erased if the current playback mode is quit Selection Proceed as follows in order to select the relevant single images or sequences: ¾¾Enable the playback mode for the relevant camera. ¾¾Search for the first image of the relevant sequence. 53 12 System Messages The protocols summarized as system messages cover user actions, results of the device integrity tests (e.g. camera failure) and messages from the internal system surveillance (e.g. hard disk or fan failure). The logging of system messages is conducted automatically and can not be deactivated. The ERROR LED on the device front side (SMAVIA appliance) indicates critical messages (system integrity tests and internal system surveillance). In support of this the messages may also be indicated by a warning dialog or sound. System Messages Confirmation The system messages warning dialog is displayed in every mode (sequencer / live, playback / live and playback). Fig Warning dialog system messages Filter System Messages If the System Messages warning dialog is displaying messages related to different subjects the corresponding filterbuttons will also be displayed. The appropriate filters can be activated with a click. This enables a clearly arranged and subject related display. Hide Warning Dialog The warning dialog can be hidden in the live and playback mode by any user. The warning dialog is hidden for 30 seconds with a click on Suppress temporarily. It will remain hidden even if a new event triggers a new system message meanwhile. The dialog is displayed again after 30 seconds, independent from the current mode. Confirm Warning Dialog Users with access level 1, 2 or 3 can confirm the warning dialog provisionally with a click on OK. Thereby the warning dialog will not be displayed in live mode any longer. It also will not be displayed if a user with access level 1 or 2 logs into playback mode. This is different for a user with access level 3 or 4 (administrator, installer). If these logs in the playback mode, the warning dialog appears again and displays all not definitively confirm messages. Final Confirmation The final confirmation of the warning dialog can only be conducted by an administrator (access level 3) with a click on OK. It is irrelevant if the dialog is displayed in live or playback mode. 53

The ERROR LED (SMAVIA appliance) on the device front side indicates failures as long as they exist. This function is independent from the warning dialog. A comprehensive evaluation and complete export of system messages is done in the configuration of the appliance (see SMAVIA Recording Server Preloaded Configuration ). 54
