Host operating system (OS) and application version support policy The naming convention used in this policy section follows the standard product release versioning scheme of (Major.Minor.Maintenance.Patch). In addition to what is listed in this compatibility guide, Dell provides NetVault Backup support for host operating systems and applications where the following criteria have been met: Vendor OS or application maintenance or patch versions of the same major or minor release already supported are also supported, unless otherwise stated. Vendor OS or application major or minor versions that are newer than what is listed in this guide are not supported and require a separate qualification effort, unless otherwise stated. Best reasonable effort (BRE) support If a query concerns a supported NetVault Backup product, application, or OS platform release combination per this compatibility guide, but the vendor no longer supports the application or OS, Dell only provides BRE support for issues that Dell determines pertain to that vendor s application or OS. In this scenario, the vendor is not expected to assist, and Dell recommends that you upgrade to a supported NetVault Backup and application or OS version combination. 6

Guest OS support is limited to NetVault Backup-supported Linux distributions, supported Windows versions, supported FreeBSD versions, and supported Solaris x86-64 versions as NetVault Backup Clients. 2. Host OS support includes RHEL 5.x and 6.x. 3. Support for NetVault Backup Server and SmartClients includes the following restrictions: Storage devices that are directly attached to an ESX Server are not supported. Unsupported devices include both direct-attached SCSI devices and devices on Fibre Channel that are exposed to the VM through a raw-device mapping. Devices connected through iscsi are supported. The VM that hosts the NetVault Backup Server must be assigned a sufficient resource reservation in its own Resource Pool. NetVault Backup Servers that have to compete for resources are not supported. VMware vsphere High Availability (HA) and vmotion are supported for the VM that hosts the NetVault Backup Server. However, due to variability in timings, Dell does not guarantee successful completion of backup jobs run during a migration.
