3 PART A: Program details About the program The Injury Management Scholarship Program, operated by the WorkCover Tasmania Board, fosters professional excellence, and acknowledges high achievers within the Tasmanian workers compensation sector. Applications for scholarships open on 1 December 2014 and close 12 January Scholarships are available to all individuals operating within the Tasmanian workers compensation sector, including injury management coordinators, return to work coordinators, and workplace rehabilitation providers. Applicants must apply against a set of criteria, including supplying evidence of workplace/employer support to undertake the training, and a concise curriculum vitae outlining relevant professional experiences and skills. Study options The WorkCover Tasmania Board intends to award a limited number of scholarships for Personal Injury Education Foundation (PIEF) study beginning in early Scholarships will be limited to study in these two courses: Certificate IV in Personal Injury Management (Return to Work) Study undertaken part-time online over 6 months. Administered by PIEF. Consists of six course module clusters. Aligns with the current requirements for injury management coordinators and recommended units of study for return to work coordinators. Graduate Certificate in Personal Injury Management Study undertaken part-time online over 12 months. Administered by PIEF in partnership with Griffith University. Includes a mandatory week-long residential held at WorkSafe Victoria s Corporate Learning Centre in Melbourne. Consists of four course modules. Applicants must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree from any discipline; or a minimum of five years of relevant work experience. Relevant work experience includes managerial activities such as managing projects, staff and/or budgets. Scholarship eligibility criteria Applicants must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the WorkCover Tasmania Board that they: are actively engaged in injury management within the Tasmanian workers compensation sector meet relevant course pre-enrolment requirements and prerequisites. Applicants must be available to attend an interview and if requested, make a presentation. Funding Scholarships will only cover the reimbursement of tuition fees of the courses. Scholarship recipients will have to privately fund all other study-related expenses (including, but not limited to, travel and study materials). Scholarship recipients will therefore need to pay or finance the course tuition fees in the first instance. Scholarship recipients may be able to seek upfront funding support from their employer or they may be eligible to access the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) to cover tuition fees (for graduate certificate only). Any scholarship recipient seeking funding support from their employer will need to reach a separate agreement with their employer.
4 PART B: Assessment and awarding of scholarships The WorkCover Tasmania Board has the right to use any information sources available to it to assess applications, including contacting injured workers for an opinion of the applicant s professional and personal character. The number of scholarships to be awarded is at the discretion of the WorkCover Tasmania Board. The WorkCover Tasmania Board is not under any obligation to award any scholarships. PART C: Scholarship terms and conditions The terms and conditions applicable to scholarships awarded under the program are: 1 Scholarship amount Subject to this Part C, the amount payable by the WorkCover Tasmania Board to a scholarship recipient is limited to reimbursement of the course tuition fees paid for the course the scholarship is awarded for. No other amounts will be payable by the WorkCover Tasmania Board. The scholarship recipient must privately fund all other study-related expenses (including, but not limited to, travel and study materials). 2 Claiming payment of the scholarship In order to claim payment of the scholarship awarded, the scholarship recipient must deliver to the WorkCover Tasmania Board all of the following (in a form acceptable to the WorkCover Tasmania Board) by no later than 31 December 2015: (a) evidence that all tuition fees have been paid for the course the scholarship was awarded for (b) details as to how the tuition fees were paid (c) details of the account(s) the scholarship monies are to be paid to, and in the case where tuition fees for the graduate certificate are funded using a loan under the HELP, details of the relevant loan account (d) evidence that the scholarship recipient has successfully completed the course the scholarship was awarded for. For the purposes of the above, a course is successfully completed only if the scholarship recipient graduates from the course. If the evidence and details (in a form acceptable to the WorkCover Tasmania Board) are not received by the WorkCover Tasmania Board by 31 December 2015, the WorkCover Tasmania Board may cancel scholarship and will be under no obligation to pay the scholarship monies to the scholarship recipient.
5 3 Payment of the scholarship Subject to clause 2: (e) Where tuition fees are paid for personally by the scholarship recipient, the scholarship monies will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient. Where tuition fees are paid for by the scholarship recipient s employer, the scholarship monies will be paid directly to the employer. Where tuition fees are covered by a HELP loan, the scholarship monies will be paid directly by the WorkCover Tasmania Board into the HELP loan account. If a combination of methods is used to fund tuition fees, the scholarship monies will be paid proportionally to the source used to fund the tuition fees. Note that there may be extra costs involved for different methods of payments (for example, credit card fees, interest gained on HELP loan). The scholarship only covers the up-front tuition costs of the course and does not cover any extra costs involved with using a particular method of payment. 4 Other terms and conditions Scholarship recipients must not receive funding from any other scholarship program for the course funded by a scholarship awarded by the WorkCover Tasmania Board. Scholarship recipients must, where possible, undertake study projects which relate to injury management within the Tasmanian workers compensation sector. Scholarship recipients must submit a brief report (750+ words) outlining the benefits and professional development outcomes from the training at the end of the scholarship program, and be available to make a presentation for promotional purposes, if requested. If an applicant is awarded a scholarship by the WorkCover Tasmania Board: (a) the WorkCover Tasmania Board will notify the applicant in writing (a) the applicant will become a scholarship recipient for the purposes of this Part C, and (b) the scholarship recipient and the WorkCover Tasmania Board become bound by the terms and conditions in this Part C. The WorkCover Tasmania Board may cancel the scholarship (by notice in writing to the scholarship recipient) if: (a) the scholarship recipient withdraws or fails to successfully complete the course the scholarship is awarded for (a) any information supplied by the scholarship recipient in connection with applying for the scholarship is false or misleading in respect of any material matter.
