Presentation Overview Introduction on Thales Nederland Antenna integration by Thales Frequency sharing of radar with IMT Interference from IMT to L-band radar Interference from L-band radar to IMT Conclusions
Radar bands below 6 GHz NL Frequency Map L-band S-band C-band Long range radar Medium range radar Short range radar
Interference from LTE to a generic radar Source: LTE cell size = 5 km Monte Carlo Simulations random variation of parameters
Co-channel sharing Separation Distance for LTE BW = 5 MHz Separation Distance Generic ITU Generic ITU Generic ITU Radar 1 Radar 2 Radar km 270 km 255 km for LTE BW = 20 MHz 194 km 245 km 235 km Separation Distance: Probability I/N< -6dB < 0,5%
Spurious Emissions According ETSI ETSI TS V ( ) Category A: -13 dbm per 1 MHz band Category B: -30 dbm per 1 MHz band Emission Mask
Sepration distance to RADAR 1 (Km) Compatibility in MHz band 30 RADAR 1 minimum separation distance for a probability of a LTE interfering signal (irss) not respecting the condition I/N<-6 db closed to 0.5% Regular 3GPP spectrum mask 3 GPP spectrum mask - 10 db 3 GPP spectrum mask - 20 db Frequency separation (MHz)
Summary EMI LTE to generic radar Co-channel sharing between Radiolocation Service and the Downlink of Mobile Service or a TDD-network is not feasible Also no compatibility is obtained in the MHz band when using a regular 3GPP LTE spectrum mask according ETSI TS , category B. When applying 20 db additional Tx filtering for the mobile system and a frequency separation >20 MHz the required separation distances are reduced to about 3 km.
Interference from L-band radar to LTE Source: L-band radars: used for detection at long distance Both naval and land-based
Co-channel sharing with base station Required separation distance to prevent co-channel interference to LTE Base Station Antenna Main Beam Antenna Side lobes Required Separation Distance 130 km 95 km
Overall compatibility in radar band Frequency separation: 30 to 100 MHz Required separation distance to LTE Base Station Blocking Spurious / Phase Noise Antenna Main Beam 30 km 45 km Antenna Side lobes 14 km 22 km
Summary EMI L-band radar to LTE Co-channel sharing between L-band radar and the LTE uplink is not feasible. Also no compatibility is obtained in the operational band of L-band radar when using current (typical) specificaions for blocking and spurious emissions.
Overall Conclusions Co-channel sharing between Radiolocation Service and the Mobile Service or a TDD-network is not feasible. Also no compatibility is obtained in the operational-band of the investigated L-band radar systems when using current (typical) specificaions for blocking and spurious emissions
