15 The Harmonic Minor Scale The most common form of minor scale is the Harmonic Minor. The harmonic minor is the same as the natural minor, but ith the seventh degree raised by one half step. The seventh degree raised is alays ritten ith an accidental, not in the key signature. The hamonic minor scale of A: The raised seventh creates an interval of a step and a half beteen the 6th and 7th degrees, giving it a distinctive sound. 21 The Melodic Minor Scale The melodic minor scale is different to all the other scales in that it is different hen ascending than hen descending. Start ith the natural minor scale. 22 Primary Triads in Major Keys Triads built on the first (tonic), fourth (subdominant) and fifth (dominant) degrees of the scale are called the primary triads, as these are the most useful and commonly used chords. As you kno, the chord built on the first degree of the scale is called the tonic triad. The chord built on the fifth degree of the scale is called the dominant triad, and the chord built on the fourth degree of the scale is the subdominant triad.
