Table of content 1.) all about the battle of gettysburg 2.) All about the nurses 3.) the most important people in the battle of gettysburg 4.) all about the weapons 5.) the GettysBurg Address The battle of Gettysburg Chapter 1 all about the battle of Gettysburg The battle of Gettysburg was a very important battle. It was very important because General E. Lee was a southern general in charge of a Confederate army and he said if they won a battle in the north the Union would might ask for peace. The Union did not want to lose the battle. General E. Lee s army started in Richmond Virginia and marched their way to Gettysburg in pennsylvania and when they got to the town there was a Union army waiting for them their and the union started firing, the Confederate army ran back and the union chased them but when the Union infantry line got up to them there were over 1000 men waiting their and the union pushed
back, the Union realized that they were surrounded by the Confederates. They started to make a fish hook shape of their men so they can focus on both sides but they didn t realize that their was a huge gap at the east side of their line. The battle went on for 3 days and so much died. This is a picture of the Union making the fish hook shape and the Confederates surrounding them Chapter 2: all about the Nurses The Nurses were probably the one of the most important people on the battlefield because they needed to help all the soldiers that were hurt or sick. More soldiers died from diseases than battle wounds. The nurses hardest job in that battle was probably helping the soldiers getting on arms, Getting on arms means you're trying to help the
soldier get back to the battle. over 3000 men were dead or injured, plus the nurses were also causing deaths by when they help one patient they get germs all over their hands and then they go on to a different patient they get all the germs on the soldier and they end up dying. Chapter 3: Who were the most important People on the battle field I think the most I mean the most important people on the battlefield are the generals. I think that because if you had no general you would have no command and if you had no command you would not know what to do and you would be scared because without a general you're more likely to lose. the generals in the battle of gettysburg had strong armies but on the union side reynolds and farnsworth had the most troops on the battlefield and the strongest infantry, cavalry positions. Now for the south there's a commander named James longstreet and he is lee's most trusted commander, General lee and longstreet were in the battle of gettysburg. Of Course lee has stronger men than longstreet but he had fine artillerymen, he used to be a trainer for the army. James also had porley amount of infantry but lots of cavalry,
(cavalry are men on horses fighting with their swords). James was a good commander for himself plus he tried out to be a general after the battle of gettysburg but he died, he got shot in the stomach. When he died during the battle Henry heth took over his squadron and he had the twice as more men. One more thing is that their were more generals and their names were Ambrose powell Hill, John Bell Hood, george E. Pickett, J.E.B stuart, John B. Gordon, Edward P. Alexander, Lewis armistead, William C.Oates, Eppa Hunton, Jubal A. Early, and last but not least James J. Pettigrew. Chapter 4: the weapons they used in gettysburg The weapons the soldiers used in the battle of gettysburg where the rifle and the musket. Those two weapons were very common in many battles, but the musket I thought that was used In the revolutionary war. The musket during the past years got upgraded and upgraded and they finally stopped upgrading it during the civil war. remember in the revolutionary war the musket shot round pellets for bullets but now the musket shoots pointy bullets and plus they made it so it reloads faster. But the rifle is more penetrable meaning it can go threw would faster than a
musket can in 10 shots. Another weapon they used is a cannon, a cannon is not a gun it s like one but it s not. A cannon is a very heavy tube that shoots round balls of 100 s and 100 s of pounds. A cannon doesn t explode it just makes things break, Lets say a man got hit by a cannon ball, it would tear and rippe the persons legg of, something like that. One more weapon they used in the battle was a flintlock pistol. The flintlock pistol was also in the revolutionary war but got upgraded like the musket. Now the pistol has 8 bullets in one chamber. Plus it s even stronger than before. Sources: History alive written and illustrated by Bert Bower and Jim Lobdell. Civil war written and illustrated by Martin W. Sandler.
