1 The Battle of the Alamo at River Bend 2010

2 Stage One: Battle of the Alamo 2010 Jim Bowie Back Story: Jim Bowie At the outbreak of the Texas Revolution, Jim Bowie joined the Texas militia, leading forces at the Battle of Concepción and the Grass Fight. In January 1836, he arrived at the Alamo, where he commanded the volunteer forces until an illness left him bedridden. Bowie died with the other Alamo defenders on March 6, Despite conflicting accounts of the manner of his death, the most popular, and probably the most accurate account maintains that he died in his bed after emptying his pistols into several Mexican soldiers. 10 rifle - plus as needed pistol 4+ shotgun on your person pistol Staging: Rifle staged on right table. staged on left table. Two pistols loaded with five rounds each and holstered. Procedure: Shooter starts standing behind Jim Bowie s sick bed holding the knife. Say the line I might need this Bowie knife At the beep, take the knife it must stay with the shooter for the whole shooting string. Move to the rifle and shoot activator target. Shooter must engage activator until it goes down. Shoot the moving target 9 times. If the shooter had a miss(es) on the activator, a round(s) may be reloaded to equal 9 shots on the moving target. Only misses on the moving target will count. Place rifle open and empty back on table. Move to left table. Put five on three with each pistol, at least one shot from each pistol on each target. Return pistols to leather. Take shotgun and shoot shotgun knockdown targets in any order. Return shotgun to table and hand the Bowie knife to RO. If the knife is dropped at any time during the stage, or is not at the last table with the shooter, it is scored as a procedural. Forgetting to hand the knife to the RO is not a procedural, but it makes you look dumb and you will receive posse ridicule. Slider target I I I I S1 S2 P1 P2 P3

I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, and our flag still waves proudly over the wall. I shall never surrender or retreat. 8 Stage Seven: Battle of the Alamo 2010 Davy Crockett livery stable Back story: Davy Crockett The image of Davy Crockett, staring in the face of certain death, jamming, playing lively music and having sort of a wild party at the Alamo has become another remarkable part of his wild frontiersman legend. It is said that he was often seen playing his fiddle atop the walls of the Alamo to encourage the mission s defenders. As intended, this likely infuriated the Mexicans and Santa Anna. 9 Stage Eight: Battle of the Alamo 2010 The Cannon Back story: Comparison of Arms The final assault came before daybreak on the morning of March 6, 1836, as columns of Mexican soldiers emerged from the predawn darkness and headed for the Alamo's walls. Cannon and small arms fire from inside the Alamo beat back several attacks. Regrouping, the Mexicans scaled the walls and rushed into the compound. Once inside, they turned a captured cannon on the long barracks and the church, blasting open the barricaded doors. 10 pistol any order on rifle and pistol 8 rifle plus as needed on person shotgun 4+ shotgun on your person Staging: staged on horse. Go to horse and with shotgun shoot the four targets in any order. The shotgun may be used to engage the last rifle target if desired. Shooter must remain in the area of the horse. 10 Stage Nine: Battle of the Alamo 2010 Santa Anna Back Story: Santa Anna Santa Anna's renouncement of the Mexican constitution and the substitution of a much more centralized and less democratic form of government sparked the Texas revolution. His political actions ultimately convinced both Anglo colonists, and many Mexicans in Texas, that they had nothing to gain by remaining under the Mexican government. When the revolution came in 1835, Santa Anna personally led the Mexican counter-attack, enforcing a "take-no-prisoners" policy at the Alamo and ordering the execution of those captured at Goliad. 10 pistol pistol 10 rifle pistol 4+ shotgun on your person rifle Staging: Rifle on left table. on right table. Two pistols loaded with five rounds each and holstered Procedure: Shooter starts standing behind line between the two tables with hands on gun grips. Shooter indicates ready by saying the line Take no prisoners At the beep, shoot the pistol targets with a Nevada sweep from the left. With second pistol shoot a Nevada sweep from the right. Holster and go to the left table. With rifle, shoot at the round plate rack starting on the left until all six plates have fallen. Spotters may call a hit only for.22 shooters if the plate does not fall. After the plates are all down, the shooter will shoot at the bowling pin targets for a two second bonus for every target that falls. No misses will be counted on the round targets unless they are still standing when the rifle is empty. Misses on the bowling pins will not be counted as misses. Return rifle open and empty to the table and move to the right table. Shoot the four shotgun targets in any order. ❶❷❸❹❺❻ S1 S2 S3 S4 P1 P2 P3 Table with rifle Table with shotgun

11 Stage Ten: Battle of the Alamo 2010 Back story: The Meaning of the battle of the Alamo to the future of the west While the facts surrounding the siege of the Alamo continue to be debated, there is no doubt about what the battle has come to symbolize. People worldwide continue to remember the Alamo as a heroic struggle against impossible odds a place where men made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. For this reason, the Alamo remains hallowed ground and the Shrine of Texas Liberty. 10 rifle pistol 4+ shotgun on your person pistol Staging: All guns staged on table Procedure: Start seated at table, cut cards. When ready, call out the suit cut and then say the line, Remember the Alamo! At the beep, take rifle and first put four rounds on the card suit cut (and called) then put two rounds each on the remaining three rifle targets in any order. Place open, empty rifle on table. With pistols shoot pistol targets exactly as rifle targets were shot. Return pistols to table. Pick up shotgun and shoot shotgun targets in any order. All guns except shotgun must be shot from the seated position, shooter can only stand to shoot shotgun. S1 S2 S3 S4
