ABOUT KiNZ WE RESPECT OUR CHILDREN, OUR WHĀNAU, OUR PEOPLE AND OUR ENVIRONMENT AND BELIEVE THAT EARLY LEARNING IS FUNDAMENTAL TO EVERY CHILD S DEVELOPMENT AND FUTURE SUCCESS. Chris Coombe KiNZ Chief Operating Officer
KiNZ care and early learning centres offer full day care and early learning programmes for children from 3 months of age* until they begin school. There is a strong emphasis on quality and excellence in education. At KiNZ our teaching comes from the heart and we celebrate the little moments when a child discovers something about themselves and the world around them. We focus on developing each child s unique strengths and interests, and building knowledge, skills and understanding within a caring and respectful environment. We have well-resourced curriculum areas for dynamic experimentation, exploration and fun. KiNZ is proud to be part of the Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA); an organisation that has been giving children the best possible start in life for over 100 years. We advocate the approach of learning through play, and with the support and expertise of the AKA, our teaching professionals help deliver the KiNZ experience that is so exciting and effective for developing young minds. KiNZ centres are open on weekdays from 7:30am to 5:30pm, and you can select full day, or half day services for your child. Nutritious cooked lunches, morning and afternoon teas are prepared by a KiNZ Cook on-site every day and will cater for your child s individual dietary requirements. Come and see for yourself all the great things happening at your local KiNZ care and early learning centre. Meet the teaching team and see the passion, fun and commitment in action. Enrolments are welcome at our centres or on our website *Ages differ between our KiNZ centres. Our qualified, professional teachers are leaders in early childhood education, and are passionate about enabling our children to be the best they can be. Reflecting this, our KiNZ centres consistently receive positive ERO reports, and have an excellent reputation in their communities.
WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN AT KiNZ Our kindergarten style learning programme is based on the NZ Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki (1996). It is designed to support children to grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body, and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society. We encourage children to participate in a range of learning activities to extend and develop their ideas, skills and knowledge. Learning experiences include: - EXPLORATION - CREATIVITY - LITERACY - NUMERACY - INDEPENDENCE - CONFIDENCE - CURIOSITY - POSITIVE SOCIAL INTERACTIONS Our high quality preschool programme promotes and extends the learning and development of every child by focusing on their individual strengths and interests.
Every day the learning programme includes a variety of planned and spontaneous activities, small group and individual interactions, active and quiet time, indoor and outdoor play. Our professional teaching staff provide children with an extensive range of high quality resources and educational opportunities to prepare them for a journey of life-long learning. At KiNZ, your child will have the opportunity to: feel confident about who they are and develop responsibility and a sense of independence look after themselves, others and the environment work and play alongside other children and adults persevere, problem-solve and take risks develop effective communication skills learn about limits, boundaries and routines be creative and expressive develop early mathematics, literacy and science skills value mistakes as learning opportunities have fun and develop a passion for learning and a love of life. As your child approaches 5 years of age, our teachers will help ready them for their transition to school, to make the process as easy and seamless as possible.
WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR CARING FOR OUR CHILDREN AND ARE VERY GRATEFUL THAT THEY GOT THE BEST START NEEDED FOR SCHOOL. Parent, KiNZ East Tamaki
ENROLMENT INFORMATION To add your child to the waiting list at your local KiNZ centre you can either visit the centre in person or go online to Your KiNZ centre will contact you within a few days to discuss the next steps. We encourage you to place your child on the waiting list at your local KiNZ centre as early as possible. Waiting lists vary by centre, so you may need to wait until there is space available. KiNZ is open from 7.30am to 5.30pm daily. We offer full day childcare services and some half day sessions where places are available. You can apply for the sessions and days that you would like your child to attend. The KiNZ Administrator will make contact with you when a space becomes available for your child. The next step is to complete an Enrolment Form and then your child will be all set to start at KiNZ.
EVERY DAY What ages does KiNZ cater for? KiNZ centres generally provide care and education for children from 3 months of age through to 6 years old, but entry age differs slightly between our centres, so please contact your local KiNZ to find out their age range. We do recommend that you place your child on the waiting list at your local KiNZ centre as early as possible.
Opening hours KiNZ care and early learning centres are open from 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. We believe that ongoing professional development and support is essential for teachers to demonstrate growth so we provide up to two Teacher Only Days during the year to enhance teachers knowledge. Our KiNZ centres close on statutory holidays and Teacher Only Days. Staff at KiNZ Each KiNZ centre is led by a Centre Manager who is supported by other teaching and administrative staff. Our teachers are qualified and registered in early childhood education teaching, and are passionate about supporting young children s learning. All our teachers have current first aid certificates and will administer basic first aid in the event of an accident. Healthy food / Kai At KiNZ we believe that it is important to help children understand what healthy bodies need. Meal times are valuable for social interaction and creating a healthy, positive attitude towards food. KiNZ promotes healthy eating both at our centres and at home. Nutritious cooked lunches, morning and afternoon teas are created daily on-site by our KiNZ Cooks for your child to enjoy. If your child has special dietary requirements due to allergies, medical conditions or family beliefs, please discuss these with your Centre Manager. We are a breastfeeding friendly environment and a Parents Room is available for any mothers who wish to use it. For children under two years of age, formula and labelled bottles are required each day. Fresh drinking water is available at all times for children.
LEARNING PORTFOLIOS At KiNZ, our dedicated staff regularly document children s learning in individual portfolios. These learnings are recorded in both paper and electronic portfolios and help highlight your child s strengths, interests, and learning dispositions. The portfolio book belongs to your child and is stored in the centre where children can access them whenever they wish. You are welcome to take your child s book home to share with the family. We value the input of families to the portfolio so the book becomes a reflection of the learning at home as well as what happens at KiNZ. Children enjoy sharing their home experiences by putting home photos, stories and comments in the book. This helps build a shared knowledge about your child. Portfolio books are given to your child when they leave the centre. We use StoryPark for our electronic portfolio which allows teachers to privately share updates, photos and videos with families to communicate what is happening during your child s day at KiNZ. You will get a unique login to access StoryPark through any internet connected smartphone, tablet or computer. Parents are the administrators of their child s account and own all photos, videos and content. Important friends and family anywhere in the world can be invited to see, comment and engage in your child s learning.
FEES For a fee schedule based on your child s age and the days or sessions you wish them to attend, please contact your local KiNZ centre. KiNZ is part of the 20 hours ECE scheme, which allows all children over 3 years of age, to receive a subsidy on the first 20 hours of early childhood education each week.
WE FEEL VERY LUCKY TO HAVE HAD SUCH A FANTASTIC, FUN AND CREATIVE PLACE FOR OUR CHILDREN TO SPEND THEIR EARLY LEARNING YEARS. Parent, KiNZ Sandringham
PARENT INVOLVEMENT We believe that partnership between children, teachers, parents, whānau and the community is essential for a positive early learning environment. Both formal and informal opportunities are provided for you to communicate with teachers about your child, share specific evidence of their learning, and to be involved in decision making that affects your child s wellbeing. KiNZ centres hold regular parent evenings and family events and encourage you to get involved. You are always welcome at your KiNZ centre!
