1 Sun Blaze Elementary School Skills & Order of Instruction by Quin School Year The following document outlines skills determined by the Florida State Standards. For a detailed list of the specific benchmarks, go to:

2 Reading Many skills are introduced and reinforced throughout the year. QUIN 1 Explain how chapters, scenes, and stanzas fit together to provide the overall structure of a certain story, drama, or poem. Describe how a narrator s or speaker s point of view influences how events are described. Examine how visual and multimedia elements add to the meaning of the tone an author use Compare and contrast the overall structure of events, ideas, concepts, or information in two or more texts. Quote accurately from the text when drawing conclusions Determine the theme from details/summarize Examine how visual and multimedia elements add to the meaning of the tone an author uses Compare and contrast characters, settings, or events, drawing on details. Add information from several texts on the same topic in order to write or speak about the subject knowledgeably. Draw on information from multiple print or digital sources. Determine the meaning of words and phrases, including figurative language Determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific words and phrases in a text. Gather information from multiple print or digital sources, demonstrating the ability to locate an answer to a question quickly or to solve a problem efficiently Study multiple accounts of the same event or topic, important similarities and differences in the point of view they represent. Find the area of a rectangle with fractional side lengths by using manipulatives. Comparing the size of a product to the size of one factor. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions with like and unlike denominators. Write routinely over extended time frames for a range of discipline- specific tasks, purposes, and audiences. Math Apply understanding of division to divide unit fractions by whole numbers. Interpret and determine the quotient of a whole number and a fraction. Solve a real world problem interpreting and determining the quotient of a whole number and a fraction. Classify and organize two-dimensional figures into Venn diagrams based on the attributes of the figures. Generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. Form and graph the ordered pairs on a coordinate plane. Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit. Solve problems involving information presented in line plots. Measure volumes by counting unit cubes, using cubic cm, cubic in, cubic ft, and improvised units. Relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real world and mathematical problems involving volume. Represent real world problems that require graphing the points on a coordinate plane. Solve multi-step real world problems that require converting among different sized standard measurement units.

7 Understand concepts of volume measurement. Recognize volume as an attribute of solid figure. Use unit cubes to measure volume. Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. Understand the coordinate system. Summarize the points a speaker makes and explain how each claim is supported by reasons and evidence. Journal entry writing. Use underlining, quotation marks, or italics to indicate titles of works. Include multimedia components and visual displays in presentations when appropriate to enhance the development of main ideas or themes Write routinely over extended time frames for a range of discipline- specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.
