Follow Rosie on her travels through the Rainforest. On her way Rosie meets a helpful tribe and a girl called Sita who shows her the glorious rainforest. Rosie learns about how people are destroying the rainforest and tries to help!

Rosie and her parents are going on holiday to see the rainforest. Where is the rainforest Mum? Dad what is the rainforest? This is what she saw when she looked out the window. Between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of Capricorn It is a big forest full of trees, plants and different animals. Rosie is curious about the rainforest and asks lots of questions she can t wait to get there!
This looks so cool! They arrived at the camp site interested at the surroundings. Rosie was wondering around the site to see if she could make some friends. It was then when she saw a gap in the trees almost inviting her to go in and have a look.
Rosie walked through the trees and soon she was lost and couldn t find her way out. She missed her mum and dad and wanted to go home. The sun shone through the trees and she began to feel sleepy and sat down under a large tree. As she slept peacefully there was a rustling in the nearby bushes. Rosie woke up with a fright and stared as an image emerged from the shadows. It was a helpful leopard and Rosie started to ask him questions.
The rainforest is very big and beautiful! The Rainforest is a forest with heavy annual rainfall.
Monkeys, 3 toed-sloths, snakes, Insects, birds and fish. What animals and plants live in the Rainforest?
She walked in further and saw the amazing animals all around her she was glued to the scenery and had no idea how far she had gone in. when she looked more to detail she noticed a pretty butterfly on a strange looking leaf. Hello there what are these strange looking leaves? Asked Rosie. Oh hello little one, well these are very clever leaves they are called drip tip leaves they are able to let the water drip onto the floor as they will get too heavy if it just stayed there. replied the butterfly. Thank you that has helped a lot, Rosie said.
She then meets a helpful monkey. What are you? Rosie asked the monkey curiously. I m a monkey, my name is Darwin He replied. And you live here? In the rainforest? She questioned. Yeah of course don t you know anything about the rainforest? He said astonished. Not really could you teach me? Of course what do you want to know? He asked helpfully. Everything! She gleamed Well I ll start with the structure.
The rainforest is is really important to to the worlds ecosystem 60% of the worlds oxegen is made in in the rainforest. There is 4 layers in the rainforest. At At the the bottom there there is the is the shrub shrub and and floor floor layer layer where where the the animals and and bugs bugs live. There live. There is not is much not light much at the light bottom at the because bottom the light because is blocked the light by the is blocked higher trees. by the higher trees. The next layer is is the under storey it it is the middle layer it is where some birds live live it is it also is also where where lots lots of trees of trees aim aim to to grow too. too. Next is the canopy it is where birds, three toed sloth's and were most large animals live. it is where most trees grow too. Finally is the emergent layer it is where some really tall trees stick out over the top of everything.
This is the structure of the rainforest.
She carried on through the forest of trees to see a young girl about the same age as herself. She looked at this girl interested in what she was doing. She had some clothes in her hand and she was washing them in the river. Rosie tried to stay hidden but the girl had seen her out of the corner of her eye. She got up and turned to look at Rosie. Rosie stood still. The girl began to talk, Hello my name is Sita what's yours? Rosie reapplied nervously, Umm my name is Rosie. Do you live here? Yes I do. I live with a tribe. Can you take me home? I am lost.
As they walked Sita explained about where she lives and who her family are. I live with the Yanomami tribe she told Rosie. What s a tribe? asked Rosie. It s a group of people that all live together like a community in lots of huts in the rainforest we also move around a lot. We have our own traditions and beliefs and we don t have much contact with your world. she explained.
As they were walking they drifted into a conversation about all the amazing things Sita sees in the night and day. She tells Rosie about all the amazing animals she sees and about what her favourite plants and flowers are. She talks about the nocturnal animals and they animas she sees almost every day. Sita also talks about the detail on the animals. My favourite animal is the sloth it is so well adapted to the rainforest conditions and it delighting to watch. The claws hey have are so strong they are able to cling onto the branch for a long time. I love the fact they are different with three 3 toes. There is many more things I could tell you about them I could talk about them all day!
As they walked through the rainforest they saw loads of trucks and people cutting down the trees and then piling them on the trucks. What are they doing? Rosie asked. Cutting down the rainforest this is called deforestation we fear that we will have to move and the animals will lose there habitat the rainforest is so important to everyone its so beautiful we need to help save it. If they don t stop we will loose the rainforest for ever. Sita replied grimly.
As they talked there gradually came closer and closer to the edge of the rainforest. Rosie walked through the bushes and into the open there she saw her parents talking to the police the seemed upset. She thanked Sita and ran over and hugged her parents. Rosie became determined to help the rainforest so she joined Prince Charles's rainforest SOS you should do the same!
