4 glōminerals vs. traditional cosmetics In an effort to educate our clients on the most advanced ingredients, it is necessary to clarify the difference between glōminerals and the formulations offered in traditional cosmetics. glōminerals foundation differs from traditional foundation in many important ways. glōminerals does not contain talc: Talcum powder is generally used as a bulking agent. It allows cosmetic companies to increase the product they get for the pigment they put in. This addition results in a product that has greater oil-absorbing properties, but requires more product to be applied to the skin to achieve the desired coverage. The lack of talc in glōminerals means that one can achieve fuller coverage using less product: The makeup feels lighter on the skin, and will last through the day. The product will last longer than a comparable talc-containing product. Products that contain talc can have adverse effects: A talc particle is heavier than a mineral pigment and will settle into both pores and wrinkles. Therefore, products containing talc are more likely to accentuate wrinkles and clog pores. Talc may also exacerbate skin conditions like acne and rosacea: Skin irritation may occur with the use of products containing talc, especially on sensitive skin types. glōminerals products are beneficial for all skin types and conditions: glōminerals lies on top of the skin s surface, evening out complexions without accentuating imperfections. glōminerals allows the skin to breathe: Unlike traditional makeup products, glōminerals is not occlusive on the skin. 5 selecting the right foundation: coverage, finish & formula The first step in choosing a proper foundation is to familiarize yourself with the three properties of foundation: coverage, finish & formula. coverage Coverage is the degree to which foundation is applied. To select the proper level of coverage, first assess the client s skin. Choose the level of coverage that conceals all afflictions with the least amount of coverage possible. There are 3 levels of coverage: Sheer: For clear or slightly flawed skin Medium: For skin with mid-range afflictions Full: For complexions with major afflictions 3

6 finish Finish is the look the foundation has on the skin. There are three finishes possible: matte: No sheen or shine on the face semi-matte: Sheen on high points of face dewy: High shine or shimmer on face formula Formula is the form of the foundation. glōminerals offers four formulas: glōpressed base: A finely pressed powder suitable to use as both a foundation and setting powder. Coverage ranges from sheer to full Offers a semi-matte finish Recommended for all skin types, especially oily glōloose base: A versatile loose powder foundation. Coverage ranges from medium to full Offers a dewy finish Recommended for all skin types, best for sensitive skin glōprotective liquid foundation: A liquid cream formulation available in two finishes. Satin II Coverage ranges from sheer to full Offers a satin finish Recommended for all skin types except oily, better on less sensitive and dry skin Matte II Coverage ranges from sheer to full Offers a matte finish Recommended for oily skin types glōsheer tint foundation: A sheer, smooth liquid formulation. Sheer coverage Offers a dewy finish Recommended for skin needing little coverage and dry skin Can be layered with powder for color balancing, increased coverage and a more matte finish additional options glōmatte finishing powder: Made primarily from rice starch, this powder offers a matte finish with a minor tint to balance color. glōperfecting powder: This clay-based formulation offers a truly translucent matte finish that absorbs excess oil. glōface primer: Create your own perfect canvas with glōface primer. This clear gel glides on giving a smooth, more uniform surface by filling in fine lines and imperfections to create a flawless appearance before foundation application. 4

7 foundation matching When matching foundation, an artist must first determine undertone and identify any surface tones. Undertone: The color of one s skin created by both melanin and blood under skin. Undertone designation does not change, only the value may change. (i.e. If an individual has an olive undertone, she will be olive for life.) Value: How light or dark a color is. Depending on age or exposure to the sun, one may appear darker or lighter. Surface tone: Varying color on the surface of the skin (redness, hypo/hyperpigmentation, etc.) identifying undertone One can possess either a warm or a cool undertone. Warm Undertones: Warm, Olive (yellow/green), Peach Make up 97% of the population, 80% of which are yellow or olive. Peach undertones generally result from yellow undertone with red surface tones. Cool Undertones: Pink Cool undertones occur in only 3% of the population. Frequently found in individuals that have extremely low pigmentation. A result of blood rather than pigment.

However, an artist should only use full coverage when it is absolutely necessary. Rule of thumb: Go as sheer as possible as long as one gets the coverage needed. Yellow / Olive undertones with red surface tones = peach foundation natural or beige collection Yellow / Olive undertone with golden surface tones = golden / yellow foundation golden or honey collection Yellow / Olive undertone with red and golden surface tones = warm peach foundation natural or golden collection

9 incorporating red surface tones Red surface tones are common among women of all ages. Troubleshooting involves adding red to the undertone color. This usually results in a peach color, which will naturally soften the red. Rule of thumb: A little color on the cheeks is OK. If the red falls in a desirable place, don t eliminate it. incorporating hypo/hyperpigmentation Hypopigmentation: Areas on the skin possessing less pigmentation. Appears lighter than the surrounding skin. Hypopigmentation in small areas is of little worry Larger areas can be addressed with concealer or full coverage Hyperpigmentation: Areas on the skin possessing more pigmentation. Appears darker than the surrounding skin. More commonly known as freckles or birthmarks Can be a large or small issue depending on the density of pigmentation If there are a number of freckles, the color and value of the freckle must be incorporated into the foundation color Freckles generally have a golden brown color - darker values or golden yellows work well to incorporate freckles Intense hyperpigmentation can be addressed with concealer or full coverage warming & cooling Balancing color with powder & bronzer With millions of color variations of skin tone in the world, it is sometimes necessary to mix colors to achieve a better color fit. One can either mix two powders or mix a pressed powder and a liquid. When to warm-up a foundation: If after a foundation application you find the face either too pale, grey or splotchy, you may need to add a warm powder. To do this, one can either add a powder one or two shades darker or use bronzer. When to cool a foundation: If after a foundation application, you find the face either too orange or yellow, you may need to add a cooler powder. Your best option is to dust the face with a value of the beige family. color matching between foundation formulas glōpressed powders differ from glōloose powders because they contain binders to press the minerals together. These binding ingredients are benign and do not alter the effectiveness of the makeup or react any more or any less to skin afflictions. They do, however, alter color just slightly. If you are transitioning from a glōloose powder to a glōpressed powder, select the appropriate color family in one shade darker. i.e. glōloose powder in golden medium might be glōpressed base in golden dark. If you are transitioning from the glōpressed powder to the glōloose powder, select the appropriate color family in one shade lighter. i.e. glōpressed base in natural medium might be glōloose powder in natural light. 7

10 color matching & technique foundation matching The best places to test a foundation are the neck and jaw-line. Frequently, one s face does not match one s neck. An artist should never emphasize the difference. Instead, an artist should select a color that bridges the difference. If done properly, the client will never have a foundation mask. well blended poorly blended 8

Color Theory: Use complementary colors (color theory) to hide or alter unwanted facial features. Draw attention to positive features and conceal less-desirable features. 12 glōlid primer Whether you have naturally oily eyelids or find yourself in an environment where you produce more oil, glōminerals lid primer is your solution. A small amount applied before eye shadow assures that your shadow can withstand almost any condition. This formulation works for fair to medium complexions. glōlid primer serves 2 purposes: Application: Formulated with a greater concentration of pigments to conceal discoloration on the lids and brighten darker shadows. glōlid primer provides superior surface adhesion of glōeye shadows with its tackier finish. glōeye shadows will stick to the glōlid primer offering a longer-lasting application. Use the camouflage brush to apply a small amount of this product to the eyellid. Because of the intense concentration of pigment in this product, a very small amount is sufficient to cover the entire lid. Usually applied before eye shadow. eye shadow base color: First color applied all over lid and brow area. eye shadow contour color: Second color applied. Requires specific placement. eye liner: Applied before shadow if using pencil, applied after shadow if cream or powder. mascara: Applied last. 15 STEP 2: eye shadow contour color: Contour gives the eye depth. To be effective, contour color must be equal to or darker than that of a natural shadow. Natural shadow is taupe in color. Contour has specific placement and purpose. Recommended Colors: Matte: kona, twig, blue suede, blackberry, spice, mahogany, sandstone 3, champagne 3, palm 3, amethyst 3, mulberry 3, onyx, coffee 3 Shimmer: mink, harvest, copper sheen 3, posh 3, mulberry 2, gilded bronze correct contour application The first line is found by tracing a line from the outer corner of the eye to the outer tip of the brow. 13

16 The second line is placed along the crease to the third line. The third line is found by following the curve of the iris to the crease. 14

17 contour blending A. Eye shadow contour should be darkest in the crease and blend outward. B. Contour should be blended up no further than half the distance between the crease and the brow. contour should not be blended past this point contour has been blended too far C. 18 STEP 3: eye shadow highlight color Highlight colors should never be lighter than the lightest color in the eye or brighter than the brightest color in the eye. Highlight color is placed on the lid. 20 glōeye liner application glōprecision eye pencil Ten shades: brown, black/brown, black, charcoal, peach, deep olive, plum, antique gold, silver lilac, twilight Each glōprecision eye pencil offers an advanced mineral formula that glides on like silk, never runs and is formulated for even the most sensitive eyes. glōminerals eye pencils are even safe to use on the inner rim of the eye. For thick, thin or smoky lined eyes, each pencil has an artist s blending point on the end. Applying glōprecision eye pencil To apply a clean, controlled line, you must start with a sharp tip. If you are using the glōpencil sharpener, remove the red insert to create a sharp tip. Gently roll the pencil on the back of your hand to remove any pencil shavings. Hold the pencil so the tip is pointing towards the nose. You will be able to create a sharper, more accurate line with the side of the pencil than with the tip. Place the pencil directly up against the lash line. To draw your line, twist the pencil towards you as you pull it across the lid in several strokes. Repeat this process to create a darker or thicker line. Smudge the top edge of your line with the attached blending point or the mini crease brush if you desire a smoky look. glōprecision eye pencils are not recommended for mature or extremely oily clients. When using the glōprecision eye pencil in peach or silver lilac, keep in mind that light eyeliner colors are designed to create the illusion of a larger or more open eye. To achieve this effect color is applied to the inner rim only. glōliquid eye liners Three shades: coal, mocha, purple haze glōliquid eye liner glides on with a pin point precision brush and dries quickly. Plum, black and brown color pigments can go from a delicate enhancement to an intense bold line. 18

21 glōcream eye liners Five shades: slate, sapphire, espresso, ebony, eggplant glōcream eye liner is the answer for a fast, flawless liner application with absolute precision. Applied with an eye liner / brow brush, the crease-free, creamy formulation soothes and protects the delicate skin around the lash line. Applying glōcream eye liner The recommended brush for applying glōcream eye liner is the eyeliner / brow brush. Transfer the liner to the brush tip, making sure to have an even distribution. Place the brush three-quarters of the way in across the lash line. Hold the brush vertically and place as close as possible to the lash line. Walk the brush across the lash line. Repeat this process to create a darker or thicker line. Smudge the top edge of your line with the mini crease brush to create a soft or smoky look. To alter the color of glōcream eye liners, brush a glōeye shadow or glōdust over the cream liner. To set glōcream eye liner, dust with matching glōeye shadow color. glōcream eye liner is not recommended for mature or extremely oily clients. glōeye shadow / powder liner glōeye shadows can be used to line the eyes in place of glōprecision eye pencils and glōcream eye liners. Recommended colors: kona, twig, blue suede, blackberry, posh 3, sandstone 3, mulberry 3, champagne 3, amethyst 3, sable, eggplant, fern Applying powder liner Applied the same way as glōcream liners. See directions above. Recommended brushes are eyeliner / brow or dual brow brushes. Powder liner is ideal for mature and excessively oily clients. eye liner placement The purpose of eye liner Gives the illusion of a thicker lash line. Emphasizes the shape of the eye. Creates the illusion of a different eye shape. 19

22 Point #1: Apply eye liner on the top & bottom, one-half to three-quarters of the way across the lid. Taper the line towards the inside of the eye. Point #2: The color on the lower lash line should always be lighter than the color on the upper lash line. Dark colors on the bottom lash line pull the eye downward and shift focus from the upper lash line to the lower. correct incorrect Point #3: Bottom lash liner should always be soft and blended. Avoid hard, sharp lines. 20 correct incorrect

23 glōbrow products glōbrow gel Three colors: clear, taupe, brown glōbrow gel is a water based formulation, enriched with antioxidants, providing brow-sculpting control in tinted or clear formulations. glōbrow gel not only defines lines, but provides instant coverage for unwanted gray, silver or blond hair. Applying glōbrow gel Apply glōbrow gel after pencil or powder liner has been applied. First brush brow hair into place with spoolie brush. Apply gel in the same direction as hair was brushed. glōprecision brow pencils Four colors: taupe, auburn, blonde, brunette glōprecision brow pencils give fast, natural-looking brow enhancement in a non-comedogenic mineral formulation that not only fills in the brows, but helps sculpt and shape as well. Each glōprecision brow pencil has a versatile brow sculpting brush on the end for a 2-in-1 shaping and blending. Applying glōprecision brow pencils Brush brow hair into place with the spoolie brush. Fill in the sparse areas with glōprecision brow pencil. Use spoolie brush to lift and or lighten color. glōprecision brow pencils are ideal for use with little to no hair. glōbrow powder duos Three colors: auburn, brown, taupe glōbrow powders are ideal for filling in sparse areas of the brow to enhance or darken the natural brow. Achieve the perfect brow by mixing the 2 shades in each glōbrow powder duo to expertly fill in sparse areas of the brow. Use either the eye liner / brow brush or the dual brow brush to apply this formulation to brows. Our glōminerals makeup team even suggests trying to draw in individual hairs for a more realistic looking brow. For best color adhesion, brush in brow powder color against direction of hair growth. 21

24 brushes for eye makeup application eye base: pure pony Use to apply your eye shadow base color over the entire lid. After contour has been applied, the eye base brush can be used to blend as well. angled eye: squirrel / pony blend The angled eye brush is a thick, flat-headed brush that is used to apply a wash of color to the lid or a heavy contour in the crease of the eye. Also used for finishing the eye shadow blending. eye contour: pure pony This angled brush is the perfect size to apply contour shades to the crease of the eye. eye definer: pure pony Perfect for detail shadow application and highlighting under the brow or above the lash line. Use this brush to place contour or add shimmer powder over any glōeye shadow application. crease: squirrel The crease brush is designed to give a light or heavy contour application to the eye. mini crease: pure pony The mini crease is the ideal detail brush for small areas. Use to contour the eye crease or create a smoky look with one of the glōeye liners. eye liner / brow: bronze taklon Use the eye liner / brow brush wet or dry along with a shadow or cream liner to define lash line and brows. dual brow: ox / mongoose A dual headed brush offering stiff bristles to fill in and shape eye brows. Use the large end all over brows and the smaller end for detailing and blending. smudge: pure pony spoolie Designed for applying eyeliner and eye shadow near the lash line, as well as blending and contouring to create a smoky effect. 22 The spoolie brush is designed for your lashes and brows. The full head tapers to a point for easy use on any length or lash thickness. Great for grooming lashes and brows as well as smoothing and blending.

25 glōmascara Lashes and formula choice Lash hair is no different from the hair on one s head: It can be thick or thin, well distributed or sparse, curly or straight, long or short, blonde, red, brown or black. Therefore, mascara formulas differ, as shampoo formulas do, for the type of lash. glōlash lengthening mascara: black, brown/black This is a pure pigment formula with no fillers. This mascara formula is ideal for full and / or long lashes that need to be darkened, not volumized. This particular brush head is designed to evenly distribute pigment over the entire length of the lash. glōvolumizing mascara: black, brown This formula has additives that adhere to the lash creating both a darker and fuller lash line. Use this for thin and / or sparse lashes. The glōvolumizing brush head is designed to deposit greater amounts of pigment to the lash. glōlash thickener & conditioner: clear The conditioning formula, like the glōvolumizing mascara, contains additives that adhere to the lash. This formula is used to lengthen the lash and is ideal for use with short lashes. For short but full lashes, follow with the glōlengthening mascara. For short and sparse lashes, follow with glōvolumizing mascara. Applying glōmascara To prevent mascara from clumping, allow each coat 30 seconds to dry before reapplying. To remove clumps, gently press between fingers, or use a spoolie brush to comb and seperate lashes. Remember to coat both the top and bottom of the lash. In professional use, avoid perpetuating infection by always using a disposable spoolie brush to apply mascara. Mascara should be replaced every three months. To prevent mascara from drying out, avoid pumping applicator in tube. glōeye makeup remover This ultra-gentle, oil free eye makeup remover is specially formulated to quickly and easily remove all traces of eye makeup. glōeye makeup remover leaves no residue and is suitable for even the most sensitive eyes. glōminerals lash curler The glōminerals lash curler has a flatter arch, making it idea for use on all eye shapes. Use the lash curler to give the lashes lift, opening up the eye. Usage tips Curl lashes before applying mascara to prevent lashes from being torn out. Replace lash strip when curler creates an L shaped lash. 23
