3 Created by God People look to you to tell them how they should feel about you. When they notice that you seem to care little about your personal upkeep, they interpret that as an indication that you don t like yourself. 4 Four Seasons The seasonal color theory was inspired by artist and colorist Johannes Itteen of the famous Bauhaus school in Germany He noted that a student s personal colors were consistently those complementary to his skin tone, hair and eyes. Carole Jackson, Color Me Beautiful In 1980 Carole Jackson published her book, Color Me Beautiful. She used the four seasons of the year when she applied these color principles to fashion and makeup. JoAnne Richmond wrote Reinvent Yourself with Color Me Beautiful in 2008 bringing the four season color principles into the present day. Today, many stylists and makeup companies use the four seasons to help women select colors that are right for them. 4

6 Step 5 - Select Your Season If you color your hair, select your season according to your original hair color. If your hair is gray or salt and pepper, select your color pallet by your hair color before it turned gray. Circle the season which best describes your coloring. Winter Summer Autumn Spring Winter Skin: ivory, olive, dark brown or brown with grey or reddish undertones Hair: dark brown or black, medium brown Eyes: deep brown, black, dark hazel or dark green Summer Skin: pale beige, pink cheeks; tans easily Hair: ash brown, golden blonde; tow head as a child Eyes: blue, green, light hazel or pale brown Autumn Skin: ivory; possible freckles, light brown with yellowish or olive undertones Hair: red or auburn Eyes: golden brown, green or hazel Spring Skin: creamy, blush easily, burn; possible freckles Hair: blonde or strawberry blonde Eyes: clear blue or green 6

7 Undecided Season If you are undecided between two seasons, then ask yourself these questions. Winter or Autumn Do you look better in navy and pure white (Winter)? Or in pumpkin and gold (Autumn)? Winter or Summer Do you look good in pastels like pink and powder blue (Summer)? Or do you need darker and brighter colors because pastels make you look washed-out (Winter)? Summer or Autumn Do you look good in pastel blues and pinks but not in pumpkin and mustard (Summer)? Or is it the other way around (Autumn)? Summer or Spring Which do you wear better: yellow-green and peachy pink (Spring)? Or blue-green and rose (Summer)? Spring or Autumn Do you look good in muted colors like mustard and moss green (Autumn)? Or do the clear colors of light gold and golden browns look better on you (Spring)? 8 Step 6 - Select 3 Colors From your seasonal group, select one light neutral, one dark neutral and one or two basic accent colors for your Basic Wardrobe. 9 Color Rules Women wear basic black because they think It makes them look thinner, It goes with everything else they own and It s sexy. Men wear basic black because it hides the dirt. Diana White Black does not flatter or look good on everyone. Black and true white look best on Winters. When you wear the wrong colors for your season you will look washed out, tired or over-powered by the color. 10 Action Steps 1. Pray-Ask God to help you celebrate the beauty in you. 2. Confirm-Opinion 1 Opinion 2 Check with two friends and ask them what color group they think fits you best. Or go to one of these websites and to see if they arrive at the same season you picked for yourself Basic Colors-Hang all your clothes in your 3-4 Basic Wardrobe colors together in your closet. 4. Seasonal Color Group-Group the clothes in your seasonal color group, but not one of your Basic Wardrobe colors, in the back of your closet. Turn the hangers backwards. If you wear any of these clothes this week, turn the hanger forward again. 5. Not Your Colors-Turn the hangers backwards on the clothes not in your color group, but you wore them in the last six months. Hang them in the back of your closet. We will talk more about these in the next session. 6. Give Away- Bag any clothes from this last group that you feel comfortable getting rid of now. 1 0

11 Bonus Section Take a beauty field trip. Go to a new place: art museum, antique shop, new town or an ethnic area of your city. Look around you and observe, but don t buy. 1. Like-What do you like? Colors? Textures? Objects? 2. Beautiful-What do you find beautiful? 3. Distasteful-What do you not want to look like? 4. Reason-Why don t you want to look like that?
