3 Status Updates Status updates are small posts you write, telling your friends about your life and your thoughts. These updates appear on your wall and go on the newsfeed. This is an easy way for your friends to keep up with what is going on in your life. You can post pictures, videos, links and even event invitations. Posting from the News Feed At the top of the news feed is a box that says What s on your mind? This is where you post your status update.

4 Just type what want to say and click You update will post to the news feed and to your wall. Note that there is a 420 character limit to these posts. You can also attach photos, videos, events and links to your updates. The icons directly under the text box are the links for attaching these. Attaching a Photo Click the photo icon. Chose Upload a Photo Take a Photo or Create an Album When you are done click

5 Attaching a Video Click video icon and chose: Record a Video or Upload a Video When you are done click Attaching an Event Click event icon. Type in the title of the event, location and time. When you are done click

6 Attaching a Link Click Link icon. In the box that says type or paste the web address (URL) of the website you would like to link to your update, and click Attach. The http that automatically appeared will go away when you enter the box to place in the URL. After you attach it, the name of the site will appear, along with a short description. You ll see a picture from the website on the left. Click to post the update, with the link to your wall and news feed.

8 Post on a Fan Page Go to your friend s profile. (You can learn how to find your friends in the Search Tutorial). Again, underneath the photo strip you ll see: To write a comment click To post a photo click To post a link click To post a video click

9 Post on a Fan Page Go to the fan page (You can find fan pages by typing their name in the search box. 10 Comment on a Post You can read and comment on posts anywhere you find them. You can find them on the news feed, your wall, your friend s wall, on fan pages and in search results. At the bottom of a comment it says Like Comment and if the comment has a link, it says Share Like is an easy way to say you like what someone is saying without taking the time to comment. It is like a high five or a thumbs up. Comment is where you can write something about the person s update. People have whole conversations in the comment section of updates. Share allows you to repost a link to your page. So if someone posted a link you like you can click Share to repost it on your wall. This way you can share it with your friends too.

11 To comment on a post click Comment. In the text box that appears, type what you want to say and hit If there are other comments already, you will see a box at the bottom of the comments that says Write a comment If you would like to join the discussion, write your comment and hit.

12 Liking a Post Sometimes you don t want to comment, you just want to like something. At the bottom of every post there is Like To like the post just click Like.

13 After you like it, you ll see a thumbs up image and the phrase you and others like this. If you want to Unlike just click the Unlike link. It is where the Like link was before. When you like something it will be posted on your wall and on the news feed.

14 Tagging a Post Tagging a post creates a link in your post to one of your friends or a page that you like. When you tag someone, the post goes on your wall and news feed as usual. The post is also put on their wall and goes out in their news feed. This is a great way of reaching a lot of people who might not be in your friend network. To tag a post, write your post as usual, then and the person s name. When you do this Facebook will auto-populate names for you to choose from. Select the name and finish writing your post. Click to post the update.

15 When you select the name it will be inserted into your post as text, but the text is also a link. When you post the update, it posts the name of the person or page as a link. When your friends click the link it will take them to the page or profile of the person you tagged.

16 FAQ Q: Can I attach more than one link to a post? A: No. You can only attach one at a time. Q: Can I attach more than one photo? A: No, you can only attach one photo at a time. If you want to show more photos you need to create a photo album. Q: Can I attach a link to another Facebook page? A: Yes. You attach it the same way you would attach a regular link. Q: Why can t I comment on everyone s posts? A: You can only comment on a friend s post. If you cannot comment it is most likely because the person who originally published the post is not in your friend network. Q: Someone tagged a friend of mine in a post, but I can t comment. Why not? A: If someone that is outside your friend network tags your friend, you will be able to see the tag. But because they are outside your network you will not be able to comment. Q: If I post on a friend s wall, does that go to the news feed? A: Kind of. You will see it on yours. Your friend will see it on their wall. If you have mutual friends, it will go on their wall. But your individual friends will not have your post appear in their news feed.
