1 Make a magnetic boat Would you like to make a boat sail through the water? Here s what you need: a cork thin wire, about six centimetres (2 3/4 inches) in length two small magnets one paperclip waterproof glue one sheet of coloured paper a container full of water to sail the boat in Here s what you do: 1. Cut two small triangles out of the coloured paper. 2. Glue them together with the piece of wire sticking out of one end. It should look like a lollipop. 3. Push the other end of the wire into the cork. 4. Unbend the paper clip and push into the bottom of the cork. 5. Glue one small magnet to the other end of the paperclip. 6. Fill the container with enough water so the magnet is about one centimetre from the bottom of the container when you float your boat. 7. Move the other magnet along the outside bottom of the container and your boat will follow along.

2 Clay Pot Bee Here s what you need: clay pot sealer (optional) 2 1/2 clay pot 5 mm pom poms (dark yellow) 10 mm eyes 12 x 3 mm chenille stems (black) 2 wood ball knob acrylic paint: black, sun yellow aluminum wire form or window screen from a home project foam brushes fine line brush glue of your choice (hot glue gun or Tacky Glue for young children) Here s what you do: 1. Base coat the whole clay pot with sun yellow; let dry. Paint 2 wood knob, rim of pot and stripes black; let dry. 2. Glue wooden knob to pot base. 3. Shape and cut chenille stem (see photo) and glue pom poms to ends of antenna. Glue antenna to bee s head. 4. Glue eyes to bee s head. Cut wings from aluminum wire form or screen, fold in half to crease and glue to back of bee. With a fine line brush paint on facial features.

3 Make your own rain stick! Rain sticks were used by many cultures to mimic the sound of the rain in the rain forest. The sound was believed to appeal to the rain gods. Make your own rain stick and try dance to the rhythm. Wh a t you need: Cardboard tube from wrapping paper or mailing tube Small nails Dried peas or rice Duck tape Decorations for tube Cover the end of the tube with duck tape or the mailing tube cap. Poke nails into the tube randomly so they go into the tube, but not out the other side. You need quite a few nails to g et a good sound effect. Add about 1/2 cup of dried peas and tape up the other end of the tube. You may need to experiment a bit with the number of nails and the amount of peas to get the best sound effect. Decorate the tube with paper, stickers, glitter, markers or any other craft supplies.

4 Paper Caterpillar Coloured construction paper Scissors Pipe cleaner Felt marker Pen or pencil Cut different coloured circles all the same size out of construction paper. Cut as many as you like. The more you cut, the more colourful and longer your caterpillar will be. Using a pen or pencil, punch holes in the center of each circle and thread onto a pipe cleaner. Repeat until you have made your caterpillar as long as you would like it. Fold the pipe cleaner on either end to hold the circles in place. Using the felt marker draw two eyes on the caterpillar.

5 Beautiful Butterfly White paper for body Pipe cleaner or strip of black paper for antennas Glue Scissors Pencil Paint in various colours Spoons Fold paper for the body in half. Draw the outline for the butterfly (as shown in the diagram) on one side of the paper. Make sure the flat side of the outline is against the folded edge of your paper. Cut the butterfly out and then open it up. Spoon drops of paint onto one side of the butterfly. Close the butterfly and squish the paint together then open it up. Let it dry and then add the antennas. FOLD DRAW CUT

6 Flying Fish Discs Old CDs or DVDs Permanent markers - assorted colours Construction paper or tissue paper - assorted colours White glue Googly eyes String Use the permanent marker to draw scales on the shiny side of the CD/DVD. Be creative with patterns and colours. Cut out a tail from the paper Then cut out 2 fins: one for the top, and one for the bottom. Cut out a set of lips. The middle fin is simply a rectangular cut paper, folded into a fan. Glue the fins and tail on to the back side of the body of the fish. Glue the middle fin on the inside of the hole. Glue the lips on the opposite side of the CD/DVD as the tail. Glue on a googly eye. Attach a string to your fish to hang somewhere in your home. OPTIONAL: Create another CD/DVD fish body to attach to the backside.

7 Egg Carton School Bus Top of an egg carton Yellow paint or markers Black construction paper Black marker Cut outs of people from magazines or hand drawn pictures Glue Paint or colour the egg carton yellow and let it dry. Cut 2 circles out of the construction paper to use as wheels. Cut pictures out of a magazine or draw pictures of people to sit in the bus. Glue the people and wheels on the bus. Add details to the bus to make it your own!

8 Popsicle Snowflake 3 Popsicle sticks Paint in color of choice Strong craft glue Embellishments of choice to decorate the snowflakes (optional) Needle to prick hole through one of the sticks (parental assistance required) String or wire to hang First a parent should poke a hole through the end of one of the sticks for hanging later. Paint each craft stick and once the paint is dry, glue the 3 sticks over each other to create a snowflake shape. Decorate your snowflake using beads, glitter, markers, or anything you like. Tie a string or wire through the hole to hang up afterwards.

9 Paper Plate Snowman 1 large paper plate 1 small paper plate 3 medium & 5 small buttons (optional) 2 googly eyes (optional) Orange, black and green construction paper 2 brown pipe cleaners Red felt Glue Scissors Tape Tape the small paper plate onto the large paper plate to create the snowman s body. Cut a hat out of black construction paper and glue it to the top of the small circle. Cut a green strip out of construction paper and glue it on the hat. Cut a longer green strip out of construction paper and glue it over the junction of the large and small paper plates as the snowman s scarf. Tape the pipe cleaners on either side of the large paper plate (tape on the back side). Cut two gloves out of red felt and tape/glue them onto the ends of the pipe cleaners. Glue two googly eyes onto the small plate. Cut a triangle out of orange construction paper and glue under the eyes as a nose. Glue the 5 small buttons under the nose in a smile, and glue the 3 medium buttons in a row on the large plate. If you are not using buttons, draw the features on with markers or crayons!
