2 THE GREAT GOLD RUSH Some gold rushes brought thousands of people. People brought there businesses to open shops and offices in busy towns. The increase of people coming to these small towns made the small towns into big cities. Some gold rushes lasted less than a year because the gold was taken, in result of no gold the fields were abandoned.

3 THE CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH The California Gold Rush was the very first gold rush in North America. In 1848, gold was found by James Marshall in a riverbed. Usually men left their families to find gold, but sometimes they brought their families or children California's population has went up ten times more in only ten years.

4 THE KLONDIKE GOLD RUSH The Klondike is a famous gold rush located in the region of Yukon, Canada. The gold was found 50 years after the California Gold Rush. The gold was finally found in Bonanza Creek (A.K.A Klondike River) it got its distinct name from the rich source of metal in the river.

5 GOLD FEVER Prospectors moved farther away from California gold fields to find more gold. Also people stopped in Colorado and struck gold! Great amounts of gold and silver were discovered in Nevada. In 1848, gold strike traveled slowly mostly by word of mouth.

11 TRAVELING BY WAGON TRAIN -The journey was difficult -People travel across the country -Together was safer -Helping each other leads to success

12 HAZARDS OF THE OVERLAND TRIP -They traveled in different ways -Dangerous both ways -Swift rivers -Steep mountains -Very hot -Freezing temperatures -Little food -People became sick -People die Cholera is a disease that comes from contaminated water, that is no longer in America.

13 DIFFICULT TERRAIN -The overland obstacles such as rivers and deep landscapes -built scows or rough boats so that they could cross lakes - in the Klondike they had to carry supplies over rocky land

45 Ghost Towns and Historic Mining Silver City used to be a busy community from the gold rush but this is not true any more. From all around the world tourist came to see the old mining town. Many people care a lot about saving Idaho's past. They took good care of Silver City but the building's are old so workers are repairing the buildings so they can survive longer.

46 Across the Ocean Many people came a long way during the gold rush. In the first year, more than 1,000 people came to ClearWater valley. Most came from Mexico, Canada, countries in Europe, and other places.

47 Ghost Towns Most of the time dreams of being rich did not come true because of the mining being so hard. This caused most people wanting to move to other places so they can strike it rich with mining. Boomtowns started emptying and building and streets became quiet. They became ghost towns.

Now days people in Silver City would like to have Silver City called a historic mining town. An old hotel in silver city got closed between This hotel is one building in silver city that people worked very hard to protect forever.
