Independent lawyer since August 2011 with a focus on regulatory issues and issues of intellectual property in the area of green biotechnology. I have assisted clients in the revision process of biosafety regulations in several countries, with a focus on Africa, including Burkina Faso and Togo. In my capacity as independent lawyer I am working as Senior Legal Consultant IGO affairs for CropLife International since August 2011: As senior legal consultant to CropLife International, I am responsible for following up on the following issues: Access and benefit sharing, including the International Treaty on genetic resources, the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit sharing and the WIPO Committee on genetic resources. An important focus has been the implementing regulations, including the EU ABS Regulation. Intellectual Property related to plant biotech; The EU Biosafety Protocol outreach team. 4 I have made presentations on these matters in many different venues, including outreach meetings in Bangkok, South-Korea and the Philippines. 2. Senior Counsel at Bayer CropScience N.V. since May 2008; 3. Counsel at Bayer CropScience N.V. since April 2005: Bayer CropScience N.V., which was established as Plant Genetic Systems N.V. in 1982, is the Belgian entity of Bayer CropScience, the plant biotechnology part of Bayer. Bayer CropScience N.V. has about 305 employees. The global legal department of CropScience consists of 6 lawyers of which 5 are based in Gent; it is headed by André Roef who is also the managing director of Bayer CropScience N.V. I reported directly to André Roef. Responsibilities: o Global legal counsel for the rice market area: As legal counsel for rice, I followed up on all legal issues of all rice matters, in all countries of the world, including Europe, US, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, India and Brazil. I worked together on a daily basis with the general manager rice and the head of breeding, both based in Singapore; the licensing manager and research manager, both based in Gent and the business manager, based in Monheim. My tasks included: Drafting and negotiating R&D and licensing agreements, p.e. Licensing agreements with an Israeli company, a US company and BASF, as well as R&D collaboration agreements with several universities; Drafting of production and distribution agreements; Setup of two JV s in China; I have been leading the legal negotiation team in the setup of two joint ventures in two different provinces in China (this includes conducting a due diligence,

5 drafting and negotiating contracts and follow-up on the approval process at the authority level), in collaboration with a junior lawyer of Bayer China. These JV s did not obtain approval from the Chinese government for political reasons; Providing support in a current rice litigation in US and Europe: I provided support to my US legal colleagues and outside counsel and was responsible for the document preservation efforts in Europe, Thailand and Singapore, as well as the communication and negotiations with the European commission; Following up on all compliance issues; As global counsel for rice I was also a member of the rice market area team, which included the general manager and the heads of the different functions of the market area, discussing strategic matters in regular meetings. o Counsel for the M&A project Athenix: In 2009, Bayer CropScience acquired all shares of the US based biotech company Athenix, a key technology provider, mainly in corn and soybeans. I headed the legal and IP group of the project team. The value of this deal is about 400 million US$. o Counsel and project manager for the framework agreement with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS): I was responsible for establishing the contacts between Bayer CropScience and CAAS, organising a cooperation summit in Beijing and drafting and negotiating a framework agreement with CAAS, covering exclusive cooperations in rice, cotton, oilseeds and soybeans. o Counsel for the Bioinformatics department: I drafted all IT contracts for the Bioinformatics department. o Counsel for the Public and Governmental Affairs department, and certain issues of Regulatory Affairs:

6 I worked together on a daily basis with my colleagues in Brussels, Lyon and Monheim on issues of Public and Governmental Affairs, as well as regulatory affairs. My tasks included: Reviewing policy documents and press releases as drafted by the Public and Government Affairs colleagues; Being the legal contact person for Bayer s relationships with lobby groups like the biotech associations EuropaBio and CropLife. I had specific responsibilities in relation to the Cartagena Protocol (the agreement on transboundary movement of GMO s under the Convention on Biological Diversity), including being Bayer s representative in the Global Industry Coalition working group on liability and was the chairman of the executive committee of the compact (a voluntary compensation contract developed and negotiated by the Global Industry Coalition); Setting up a global legal framework for material transfer and supporting the development of a global system on traceability of material; Following up on current discussions on review of the regulatory framework on food and feed; public access to documents and low level presence; Following up on current discussions in relation to co-existence regulation in Belgium and which included regular contacts with government officials. As senior counsel for BioScience I have been evaluated positively in a Bayer CropScience orientation centre and in a Bayer development centre. 4. Secondment at the legal department of the petrochemical company Borealis from April 2004 till September As lawyer working for Allen & Overy I was seconded to the legal department of Borealis in Mechelen where I worked together on a daily basis with an Austrian legal counsel and with the Licensing Department and the IP

7 Department. I reported to the general counsel of Borealis based in Kopenhagen, Ms Ruth Steinholtz. My tasks included: Drafting and negotiating a telecom outsourcing agreement with Siemens; Drafting and negotiating licensing agreements and collaboration agreements; Drafting and negotiating the IP agreements related to the divestment of the Borealis site in Portugal to Repsol. 5.
