2 TDE SERIES TWIN DUMP EXTRUDERS These machines are composed of an extruder, equipped with two counter rotating conical screws, and a Roller Die section. They are used to produce a rubber sheet out of the material discharged by an internal mixer. TDE is used both in master or final batch processes for all type of recipes based on carbon black as well as silica based. These innovative extruders have been designed and optimized to guarantee no material contamination and faster feeding to the batch-off combined with cooling capacity. calender speed and screw speed. The extruder has an optimized design of the screws, studied by CFD-FEM, which suits both types of drive, electric motors or hydraulic motors. Automation of post mixing sheeting process is allowed, with reduction of labor cost, improvement in safety operation and production of constant features for rubber sheet. The extruder section has screws axis inclined at 15 and a two roll calender at 90 respect to screws axis. A closed volume containing the rubber bank is contained within end of the screws, lateral side guides and calender rolls. Automatic operation of the whole unit with continuous and constant rubber sheet is guaranteed by a pressure control system. It allows the synchronization between

3 TDE SERIES TWIN DUMP EXTRUDERS HIGH CAPACITY Nominal capacity is obtained at approx. 80% of max. screw speed. This result is due to the angle between the two screws, which gives a wider size of feeding hopper, combined with the higher conveying efficiency of the screws. OPTIMAL TEMPERATURE CONTROL The compound temperature can be reduced by a max. of 15 C. This result has been obtained optimizing the design of water flow channels, screw profile and pressure control system. Specific energy input has been reduced maximizing the output for screw revolution. In other words, TDE is a high efficiency feeder of the batch to the calender rolls, without increasing compound temperature (high heat exchange). NO MATERIAL CONTAMINATION No compound particle remains in the hopper, after production and machine emptying. This is the result of an optimal balancing of variable clearance between screw and barrel, of overall absence of dead volumes and of speed synchronization between screws and calender. The screw drive section is completely separated from the hopper, in order to prevent any lubricant leakage contamination. COMPACT AND VERSATILE The design includes four identical drives (same motor and gear reducer with reduction on spares), one for each screw and for each calender roll. Sturdy connecting gears are foreseen on the screw rear shaft, for synchronization of the intermeshing screws (patented). Different roll speeds can be set thanks to the design with two independent drives on the calender. This additional parameter allows the technologist to obtain a friction ratio that is very useful, mostly in silica compound processes, to avoid any sticking.

4 AUTOMATION POMINI Rubber & Plastics automation packages, based on the most advanced information technology tools, are customized in order to satisfy the specific needs of each Customer. They manage from a single production unit (e.g. the Internal Mixer) up to a complete mixing room (including material handling, small bag preparation, ERP interface...). Main target is to guarantee repeatability, tracking, consistency, logging and analysis of the line operating condition data, in production of all different formulations processed by the line and set by tecnologists. Each local unit is supervised by a PC and is connected through LAN (Local Area Network) to a central server that manages all the data. Data are available to production control, technologist, laboratory, etc. as soon as collected.
