In goal, Deidra Clymer has seen the bulk of the duty, but Megan Guilbert was in net for the win over Providence. The Lions put three teams ranked in the preseason NHCA Poll (No. 1 UConn, No. 15 Princeton, No. 19 Michigan State) and have gone 1-1 against those teams thus far. MAEVE-eLLOUS Sophomore back Maeve Doherty had a strong two-way weekend in the Lions triumphs over Lehigh and Michigan State. Doherty made a key defensive save in the first half to keep the game scoreless and later tallied her first collegiate point with an assist off a penalty corner. Two days later, Doherty opened the scoring with a laser shot for her first goal. Returning All-American Christina reibott continued to add to her program-leading assist mark with a pair of helpers last weekend. SCIP TO MY LOU Senior tri-captain recorded her first career two-goal game with a pair of scores against Lehigh on Spet. 11. UNBREAKABLE KIMMIE P Senior goalkeeper Kimberly Pianucci had to make a combined 14 saves in the Lions wins over Lehigh and Michigan State last week. Against the Spartans, Pianucci turned away 11 shots, marking the second time she notched double-digit saves. ANSWERING THE KAL Meredith Kalberer has gotten off to a hot-start, recording points in all four games this season and leads the squad with eight points (three goals, two assists), already establishing a new career-high. She has been named to the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll twice. new era After spending three years as an assistant coach for Columbia, two-time Olympian Caroline Nichols was elevated to head coach in May. Nichols becomes just the fourth coach in program history. DOHERTY EARNS TWO OSEASON HONORS Sophomore back Maeve Doherty kept busy this summer, playing at the Young Women s National Championship after strong performances at High Performance training sites and was named to the U.S. National Indoor Team for Doherty previously played for the National Indoor Squad last December, starting all four games in the 4-Nations Tournament in Canada COLUMBIA IELD HOCKEY 2

3 REIBOTT RETURNS Christina reibott returns for her senior campaign where she became just the second Lion to earn All-America honors and the first to become Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year. reibott was the national leader in assists per game (1.24), set single-season program records for points (41) and assists (21) and became Columbia s all-time leader in assists in just three seasons. RUESTER CROWS Junior forward Katie Ruesterholz has posted a pair of 10 goal seasons in her first two seasons with Columbia and her 21 tallies put her fifth on the all-time goal chart. OH CAPTAINS, MY CAPTAINS Seniors Christina reibott, Kimberly Pianucci and Anna Scipioni have been selected as team captains for this season. reibott also served as a tri-captain last season. She becomes the fourth coach in program history. We are thrilled to have Caroline Nichols as a coach and mentor for our field hockey studentathletes, Senior Associate Athletics Director/ Senior Women s Administrator Jacqueline Blackett said. Caroline s experience as a player at the national and international level, coupled with her ability to teach the game, makes her an excellent choice to lead our Columbia field hockey program. During her time as an assistant, Nichols worked with the Columbia backfield. The Lions defense has seen players such as Bridget DeSandis, Katie DeSandis and Lauren Skudalski earn All-Ivy League and All-Region honors. As a team, the Lions have ranked in the top-15 in defensive saves in each of Nichols three seasons with the program. I am thrilled for this opportunity to lead the Columbia ield Hockey program, Nichols said. I want to thank Director of Athletics Peter Pilling, Jackie Blackett, and the search committee for their support throughout this process. I am excited to continue to drive the standard of Columbia field hockey forward. With our returning players, incoming class, and alumnae support there is no limit to what we can achieve. Nichols wrapped up a brilliant seven-year international field hockey career in the summer of A pivotal piece of Team USA s backfield, Nichols compiled a total of 165 impressive caps to her name. A solid force on penalty corners and penalty strokes, her skillset was greatly utilized most recently at the 2014 Champions Challenge and Hockey World Cup where the United States made an impressive fourth place finish. Olympics team, the 2008 Olympic Qualifier team and the 2010 World Cup Qualifier Team. She earned a gold medal at the 2011 Pan American Games when the U.S. defeated topranked Argentina in the Championship game. In 2006, she was named to the USA World Cup Training Squad and was a member of the Netherlands Tour team in She competed with the 2012 London Olympics team in June 2012 and was re-selected for the National Squad in June of Nichols, who was an assistant coach at Iowa in 2010, has worked with the USA ield Hockey utures program since She has been a certified site director and head coach since 2008 and the Regional Coaching Director for San Diego, Calif., since Nichols had an outstanding collegiate playing career at Old Dominion as a fouryear letterwinner from She was a national all-academic team selection and an all-conference honoree from As a junior, she was named a NHCA second team All-South Region selection and was named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) all-tournament team. In 2006, Nichols was recognized as a NHCA first team All-American and an NHCA first team All-South Region honoree. Additionally, she was named the 2006 CAA Player of the Year and CAA Defender of the Year, marking the first time in CAA history someone swept both honors in the same season.
