4 SDSU s School Counseling Program will: Prepare school counselors to become leaders, advocates and systems change agents in our diverse schools Teach school counselors to design, develop, implement and evaluate their comprehensive school counseling programs based on ASCA National Model Develop students into professional advocates who promote equity and access to a rigorous education for every student Teach students to understand and remove barriers to learning for culturally diverse students

7 PhD from University of California, Riverside Co-Author of the ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs (2003); Evidence-Based School Counseling: Making a Difference with Data Driven Practices (2007). National Trainer in the use of data to effect change and ASCA National Model for school counseling programs. Former Administrator high school administrator and central office administrator over school counseling programs for 32 schools and 75 school counselor. Former President California School Counselors Assoc. Vice President, American School Counselor Association

8 Received PhD from USC Research interests include school violence, street gang culture, school-based intervention, resiliency and youth empowerment. Taught School Counseling courses at Cal State Northridge. Former School Counselor Research on risk and protective factors for gang -involved youth within school communities. Coordinates Building Capacity in Military-Connected Schools a consortium of eight military-connected school districts in San Diego, DODEA and USC

Apply to San Diego State University Online application on CSU Mentor: Submit for FALL 2014 graduate admission application ONLINE Submit one official transcript from each institution attended to Enrollment Services Submit GRE, CBEST, and TOEFL (if applicable) test scores to Enrollment Services 2. Apply to the School Counseling Program Online application on School Counseling Program Website NO HARD COPY MATERIALS CAN BE ACCEPTED ALL MATERIALS MUST BE UPLOADED ONLINE

21 Faculty review of online application and supporting materials A group of applicants will be selected for an interview. Individual and group interviews scheduled for Friday, February, 7, 2014 (Short Individual) Saturday, February 8, 2014 (Group)

22 What we look at: The applicant s related professional and life experiences The applicant s goals and objectives compared with the program's goals and objectives Test scores and GPAs (Minimum 2.85) Each application is reviewed by at least two faculty members who make recommendations for interviews Applicants who are invited to interview are determined by the school counseling faculty

23 Each application is considered following context: and readiness to succeed in a full time rigorous graduate program. Knowledge of and experience with to predict ease of entry 1 st semester. Depth and breadth of knowledge and/or experiences in schools and/or communities leadership roles. and demonstrated skills in

24 Part 1: An individual interview Part 2: A full day of small group interviews with faculty and current students Rotate through a variety of interview activities Interviewers consider each applicant's "match" with program philosophy and emphases After the interview Recommendations for admissions are made to the entire Department faculty Applicants are notified and invited to the program
