5 Home Networking in IEC (1) IEC PACT identified Smart Home as an important issue This task was allocated to TC 59 for Performance of Household Electrical Appliances (SMB/2898/R, Sep. 15, 2004) However, TC 59 decided to observe ISO/IEC JTC-1 SC 25 development Already in the PACT list but nothing started yet in TC 59

6 Home Networking in IEC (2) TC 100 has already two projects in TA 4 and TA 8, respectively TA 4: Digital systems interfaces and protocols IEC 62394: Service Diagnostic Interface for ECHONET (CDV has been issued) TA 8: Multimedia home server systems PT 62295: Common communication protocol for generic linkage on heterogeneous networks

7 Home Networking in IEC (3) TC 100 is expecting additional Projects for Home Networking coming soon A new Technical Area will be created for home networking issues TC 100 takes a direct part on Home Networking Workshop on October 12 and 13, 2005, in Geneva Three presentations on technical topics One join presentation for overview of international standardization issues on Home Networking

8 Home Networking in SDOs DLNA: Digital Living Network Alliance for providing AV equipment interconnection UPnP AV: Universal Plug and Play Forum provides extended specifications for AV equipment interconnection UOPF: Ubiquitous Open Platform Forum for providing dear-to-dear visual communications EchoNet: This forum is providing interconnection among white appliances in addition to AV equipment

9 Home Networking in ISO/IEC/ITU IEC TC 100: Interconnecting audio, video and multimedia equipment TA8:Home servers TA4: Interface TA5: Coaxial cabling inside and outside home ISO/IEC JTC-1 SC 25: Pre-wiring and home gateway ITU-T SG 9: For providing set-top box specifications as the gateway of home networking ITU-R WP 6M: Signalling to digital TV receivers for content protection through the air

10 Audio and Video Synchronization Issues should be resolved Flat panel displays have longer delay time than CRT displays Theater simulated external audio amplifier may trigger the necessity of this project IEC TC 100 starts the circulation 100/941/NP on March 11th, 2005, for A/V synchronization so called Lip Sync SMPTE has AHG Lip Sync group under S22 (ATSC IS-191) ARIB and JEITA have already established a joint working group on this issue

15 Content Protection instead of DRM In ITU, content protection was called as DRM (Digital Rights Management) Recently, ITU-R WP 6M proposed to use content protection instead of DRM Copy Rights are under UNESCO Intellectual property is under WIPO ITU will provide the technical specifications for protecting broadcast contents

24 MediaFLO System Architecture The FLO technology is an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based air interface designed specifically for multicasting a significant volume of rich multimedia content cost effectively to wireless subscribers.
