1 USB Cameras and Windows XP TroubleShooting Below is a short, step by step, way to get our cameras to work with Windows XP Home and Office editions. After connecting the camera to the computer as per the directions that came with the camera, Windows should display the following screen. On this screen you can see two choices, you want to select the second choice, Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). After clicking on NEXT, Windows will then display the following: On this window, you want to select Don t search, I will choose the driver to install and then click on NEXT.

2 After clicking on NEXT, you should then see the following: At this window, you want to click on HAVE DISK. At this window, you want to click on the BROWSE button and select the CD that came with the unit. At this window, you will see the contents of the CD that came with the Camera. Select a file named JVCDSC and click on the OPEN button.

3 out. At this window, select the JVC DV Camera and click on NEXT. Clicking the OPEN button will lead us to this window. Here you will see JVC DV CAMERA and a warning that the driver is not digitally signed. That is because the driver was written before Windows XP came As I stated before, the driver is not signed and Windows will warn you of this again with this window. Click CONTINUE ANYWAY and installation will continue.

4 This is the last window in the install process. Here, all you have to do is click on FINISH. Congratulations, the camera is installed. Scanner and Camera Wizard Windows XP has a new feature that previous versions of Windows does not. It is called the Scanner and Camera Wizard. This feature will ease downloading from the camera. What it basically does is recognize that the device is a camera and downloads the pictures for you. After installing the camera, disconnect and reconnect it. You need not shut it off or change modes, just disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it. You need to do this so Windows recognizes it as a camera and starts the Wizard. Once you reconnect it, Windows should display the window to the right. Select Copy pictures to a folder on my computer using Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard and click on OK.

5 After clicking OK, Windows XP will then scan the camera and briefly show this window, and then enter the Scanner and Camera Wizard. At this window, just click on the NEXT button. Which will then lead us to:

6 This window show you your pictures from the camera. Select the ones you want to save and click on the NEXT button. That will lead you to the window to the right. This window asks you where you want to save the Pictures and what to group them as. When you are done selecting where to save them, click the NEXT button.

7 You should then see the window above. This just shows that windows is copying the pictures. The window on the right should be displayed after you click NEXT on the above window, when Windows is done copying. This window asks what you want to do with the images you just saved. It is up to you what you want to do here. If you select Nothing, I m Finished working with these pictures and click

8 NEXT, you should see the following. You would then click on FINISH. That s it for the Scanner and Camera Wizard. You can now go to the Folder where you saved the pictures and view them, print them, or whatever you want with whatever program you want.

9 Downloading the Old-Fashioned Way If you do not want to use the Scanner and Camera Wizard, you can still download the pictures the same way you did with Windows 98/ME. You would first go to MY COMPUTER, Double click on REMOVABLE DISK, which will bring up:

10 Double click on DCIM, which will reveal: Double click on 100JVC**, which displays: On this window, you can save the pictures to a location on your hard drive by selecting a picture, clicking on FILE, and then SAVE AS.

11 Troubleshooting Windows XP is a lot like Windows 2000 in the way devices are installed. If the camera should not function as stated in the above directions, here are some troubleshooting procedures you can follow. First, you want to see if the camera is setup correctly, for USB. (On Play and DSC, On Play and in Memory Play, On Play and in USB Mode, using AC adapter and not battery etc) Secondly, you want to check if the camera is installed and appears in the Device Manager. To get to the device manager in Windows XP, go to your start menu by clicking on START, then right click on MY COMPUTER and click on Properties. That will bring up the following window. At this window, click on the Hardware Tab. That will display the window below. On this window, to the right, click on the Device Manager button. That will display the Device Manager window

12 Above is what the Device Manager would look like if the Camera was installed correctly. Notice that there are two devices installed from the camera, JVC Digital Camera and JVC DIGITAL CAMERA USB Device. Both must be present in order for the camera to function. To the right is what the Device Manager would look like if the wrong driver was installed or there is no driver installed. To remedy this, you have to Right-Click on Digital Camera, and click on Properties. That will bring up

13 This window shows the properties for the device you selected. Notice the Device Status and that it says the device is not configured correctly. Click on the REINSTALL DRIVER button. Clicking on that button will start the Hardware Update Wizard. As with installing the camera, You must select Install from a list or specific as shown to the left. Then click NEXT.

14 You should then see the window to the left. Select Don t Search, I will choose the driver to install and click NEXT. You should then see a window similar to one of the following: If either JVC DV Camera or JVC Digital Camera is listed, select it and click NEXT. If not, click on HAVE DISK and browse for the file named JVCDSC on the CD that came with the unit. OR

15 If this window appears, you have to select Imaging Devices, and click NEXT. You would then see In this window, click on HAVE DISK. You should then see At this window, to the left, select the drive that the CD that came with the unit is in and click on OK.

16 In either case, this is the next window you should see. This window is just a warning that the driver is not signed by Windows XP to verify its compatibility. Click Continue Anyway and installation should continue. At this window, to the right, click FINISH. Installation is complete and the camera should now function normally with Windows XP.

17 If the Device Manager Window is similar to the following, It means that the device has somehow become disabled. To enable it, Right-click on the device, and click on Properties. That will bring up Click on the drop-down bar and select Use this device (enable), then click on OK. That should fix the problem and the camera should now function normally with Windows XP.
