2 Eastern White Cedar Shingles An attractive and economical timber cladding material For many years Eastern White Cedar shingles have been used as exterior cladding on homes along the eastern seaboard of North America, where the New England look is extremely popular. Eastern White Cedar shingles offer an attractive and economical alternative to conventional wood cladding. They are warm, beautiful and have proven a reliable material for over a century. It contains natural preservatives that protect it from decay. Eastern White Cedar does not contain tannins, so it can be stained any colour and will not be affected by tannin bleed. Stunning effects can be achieved by using Eastern White Cedar shingles as a primary cladding material or as infill panels in combination with other materials. They have been successfully installed on both traditional and contemporary residential and commercial buildings. In certain applications Eastern White Cedar shingles can even prove effective as an interior wall surface.

Maibec was the first manufacturer to use stellite-tipped saws to ensure precise cuts and to minimise raised grain. Shingles are resquared and rebutted for a beautiful natural finish that doesn t require additional on-site trimming. The shingles are also kiln-dried for greater stability and durability. Eastern White Cedar shingles are available from Silva Timber in three grades in their natural state, or factory coated with either a solid or semitransparent stain. Maibec Eastern White Cedar shingles are available with a 50 year warranty against wood decay (see reverse for details). Natural Shingles Natural Eastern White Cedar shingles are available from stock in three grades: This superior grade has no imperfections on either face and is suitable for use on all residential or commercial buildings where a high quality appearance is required. Kennebunk are designed to combine great appearance and affordability. Select grade shingles have no imperfections on the exposed face. Bar Harbor is an economical shingle desired for its character, natural charm and contrasting tones. Rustic grade allows for sound tight knots on the exposed face of the shingle.

Using the TrueMatch Factory Coated Colouring System, we can supply custom produced Eastern White Cedar shingles in exactly the colour you have in mind. Every shingle is factory-coated on all sides in a controlled environment for maximum stain absorption and retention. This also provides increased UV and weather protection. Following the stain application, the shingles are sent through a state of the art air drier, which cures the stain from the inside out. The shingles are then cooled and packaged. Factory Stained shingles are supplied in boxes covering 2.32m 2 at maximum 127mm exposure. Nails 1.8 x 31mm stainless steel annular ringshank nails are recommended for installing shingles.
