1 Recipes4Success You will learn how to create an animated movie using Frames. You will import a folder of images, add a title, credits, text effects, music, shapes, and transitions, and then export the animation as a video All Rights Reserved. 3 Page 3 of 20 Introduction Launch Frames. You will see a blank frame on the left and the Tools panel on the right. Add a Folder of Images You can drag images from the Library to create an animation. Click the Library button on the toolbar. You will see the folders in the Library. Double-click the Tutorials folder to open it. Click the Clay Animation folder to select it.

4 Page 4 of 20 Click and drag this folder on to the white frame in the preview. You will see the cursor change. Let go of the mouse button. You will see all of the frames in the storyboard along the bottom. Preview the Animation You can preview the animation. The animation is currently at the last frame. Click the Rewind button on the toolbar to return to the beginning.

5 Page 5 of 20 Click the Play button on the toolbar to watch the animation. Duplicate Frames You can duplicate frames in the animation to have frames and actions repeat. Go to the Edit menu and choose Select All Frames. Press and hold down the ctrl key on the keyboard. Click the first white frame to deselect it. The other frames will remain selected. Click the Clone button on the toolbar. The selected frames will be duplicated and added to the end of the animation. Save You can save a Frames file so that you can work on it during multiple sessions.

6 Page 6 of 20 Click the Save button on the toolbar. You will see the Save Project As dialog. Type a name and choose a place to save the file. Click the Save button. Change the Background Color You can change the background color of a frame. Click the first frame in the storyboard at the bottom of the window. Click the Tools button on the toolbar. Click the Color box on the tools panel and choose a new color.

7 Page 7 of 20 The background of the frame will change to this color. Add a Text Object You can add text to create a title for the animation. The Tools are still open. Click the Text tool on the Tools panel. You will see a text object in the middle of the frame. Type a title for the animation, such as: What s the Idiom? You will see this text in the text box. Resize Text

8 Page 8 of 20 You can change the size of text. Move the cursor over a handle on the corner of the text box. It will change to two arrows. Drag away from the text to make it larger. Move the cursor over the bottom handle in the middle. Drag away from the text to make it larger. Move over the middle of the text box to position the text. Repeat this process until the text fills the frame. Format Text You can change the way text looks. You will see text formatting options in the Tools panel. Click the Font pull-down menu to choose a new font. Click the Center Align button to center the text in the text box. Click the Color box and choose a new text color.

9 Page 9 of 20 Move the cursor over the middle of the text box. The cursorwill change to show four arrows. Click and drag the box to center it on the frame. Click the frame outside of the text box. Change Frame Duration You can change how long a frame is shown. You will see the frame duration at the bottom of the Tools panel. The first frame is still selected. Click and drag the Duration slider to the right to make the frame show for 3-4 seconds.

10 Page 10 of 20 This will give viewers longer to read the title of the animation. Add and Move a Frame You can add new frames to the animation. Click the New frame button on the toolbar You will see this new frame in the in the storyboard behind the first frame. Move the cursor over this frame. Click and drag the frame to the right until it is at the end of the storyboard. The frame will move to the last position and show in the preview area. Click the Color box on the Tools panel to change the background to the same color you used on the title frame. Click the Text tool on the Tool panel.

11 Page 11 of 20 You will see a text object in the middle of the frame. Use the skills you have learned to add and format text that says: Get your ducks in a row! Drag the Duration slider to make this frame last longer. Animate Text You can animate how text appears on a frame. Click the text box if it is not selected. Click the Effect check box on the Tools panel. Choose an animation style from the pull-down menu. Click the Edit button to adjust how this animation plays. For example you can choose direction from the Option pull-down menu. You will see a preview of how your text will animate.

12 Page 12 of 20 Click the Go Back button when you are done. Click the Save button on the toolbar. Add a Transition You can add transitions between frames. Click the Rewind button to go to the first frame. Click the Library tab.

13 Page 13 of 20 Click the Home button at the top of the window to return to the main categories. Double-click the Transitions folder. Find the transition you want to use. Click it to select it. You will see a green arrow in the lower right corner. Click the green arrow to add the transition to this frame.

14 Page 14 of 20 You will see the transition in the storyboard at the bottom of the window. Add Sound You can add sound to an animation. Click the Rewind button on the toolbar to return to the beginning of the animation. Click the Library button on the toolbar. Click the Home button at the top of the Library panel. Double-click the Sounds folder.

15 Page 15 of 20 You will see the folders in the Sounds library. Double-click the Music folder. You will see the sounds in the music folder. Click the Cartoon music file. Click the green arrow to add this sound to your animated movie.

16 Page 16 of 20 The sound will be added to the animation starting at the first frame. Add a Conversation Bubble You can add text in a conversation bubble. Click the second frame with duck images. You will see this frame in the preview area. Click the Text tool on the Tools panel. You will see a text object in the middle of the frame. Click the Bubble check box on the Tools panel. You will see the text box change to a conversation bubble.

17 Page 17 of 20 Click the Edit button next to the Bubble check box. You will see different shapes for your conversation bubble. Choose the one you want to use. Click the Go Back button. The text objectwill change to the shape you chose.

18 Page 18 of 20 Type some a duck would say, such as: Quack! Use the text options on the Tools panel to change the format of the text. Click the frame away from the text box. Drag the blue circle above the text bubble to connect the bubble to a duck. Drag in the middle of the text bubble to move it. Drag the blue handles to change the size of the bubble. Drag the Duration slider so that this frames shows for more time. Click Save button on the toolbar. Click the Rewind button on the toolbar. Click the Play button on the toolbar to watch your animation. Export a Claymation Video Click the Project button on the toolbar. Click the Export button. Click the Computer button in the Export a Video area.

19 Page 19 of 20 You will see the Save Movie As dialog. Choose a place to save the video. Click the Save button. Frames will create the movie. When it is finished, you will see a Finished Exporting dialog. Click the Launch button to watch the movie in a video player on your computer. Close the video. Close Frames. Conclusion
