2 INTRODUCTION The Pestana Group is the leading Portuguese group within the tourism sector, having branches in both Portugal and abroad. The group now owns and manages close to 92 hotel units, all following the highest quality standard. It offers a total of 9,000 available rooms in Europe, Portugal and Africa. In addition to 46 hotels, the Pestana Group manages the Pousadas of Portugal, which has 35 units distributed from the north to the south of the country. In addition to these hotel units, the Pestana Group also owns 13 Holiday Club enterprises, six golf courses, three real estate/tourist companies, two casino gambling concessions (Madeira and Sa o Tomé and Príncipe), participations in a charter flight company and a tour operator. In 2010, it had 7,000 employees and its 2010 EBITBDA surpassed 100 million Euros. In that very same year, the Pestana brand, with its two labels Pestana Hotels & Resorts and Pousadas de Portugal, was estimated at 104 million Euros by the Brand Valuation Forum and considered one of Portugal s most valuable brands. Pestana customers may find hotels of the Group in 15 countries within 3 continents, all of them characterized by the excellent service established by the philosophy the Pestana Group applies in each unit within its universe. Its almost 9,000 rooms are distributed in 45 hotels of the Pestana Hotels & Resorts network and present in Portugal, Spain, England, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, Cape Verde, Venezuela, Argentina, Sa o Tomé and Príncipe, Colombia, Morocco, U.S.A. and Cuba, giving employment to an approximate 7,000 people. The Group was created on the island of Madeira and its first hotel, the Pestana Carlton Madeira, is a landmark in Portuguese tourism as well as a reference point for both professionals of the sector and tourists. 3 PORTUGAL In Portugal at present, the Pestana Group owns 9 hotels in Madeira, 6 in Algarve, 3 in Greater Lisbon and 1 in Porto. Offering a wide range of possibilities, Pestana hotels have various activities and services for complementing its customers stays. The Pestana Hotels & Resorts in Portugal have approximately 3,500 rooms, all of which are backed by excellent infrastructures and friendly service.
