Network development and design A short introduction to the MOVE Meter: a web based tool to support your planning process pagina 2
Content 1. Introduction 2. MOVE Mobility 3. The MOVE Meter in AUSTIN (TX) 4. Other features of the MOVE Meter 5. Technical details of the MOVE Meter 6. Contact information pagina 3
1. MOVE Mobility pagina 4
MOVE MOBILITY Founded in 2012 Focus: Front office in business development for our partners in international markets Europe (Germany, UK, Georgie) Outside Europe (US, Uganda, South Africa, Kurdistan) Software development and applications MOVE Meter Monitoring tool Associate of Goudappel Coffeng Our ambition is to support cities in their transition towards a Smart Moving City pagina 5
2. Introduction pagina 6
Evolution in transportation planning in NL Road design Network planning Multimodal network design Interdisciplinary planning Car Public Transport Bicycle Complexity: process, content, technically pagina 7
pagina 8
Capacity of infrastructure per 3,5 m width pagina 9
Interdisciplinary planning The result of a two day workshop Car network Cycle network Public transport pagina 10
The MOVE Meter facilitated this process It is a web based tool that: - let you play with different scenarios - is easy to use by all planners - presents results quickly (< 10 minutes per scenario) In the case of Austin TX the tool was used to: - show the bicycle potential - demonstrate the impact of cycling on congestion The MOVE Meter results are based on your traffic data. pagina 11
Basic functions of the MOVE Meter pagina 12
3. The MOVE Meter in Austin (TX) pagina 13
Where is my network congested? A lot of capacity problems in and around the Centre pagina 14
Who is using my network? High percentage of short trips in the Centre pagina 15
Where to invest in cycling? pagina 16 Build your own spider net.
What is the potential impact of cycling? V/C ratio after replacing proportion of short trips pagina 17
Zoom in to get more detail pagina 18
What did the MOVE Meter add to the process in Austin? Austin officials gave the firm (MOVE Mobility) transportation planning data from its Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and they now have a tool by which to analyze how bicycle infrastructure can affect the transportation system as a whole. The introduction to the tool allowed us to see one way and one tool Dutch cities use to make transportation decisions related to bicycles." Source : The Urban Transportation monitor. November 2012 pagina 19
4. Other MOVE Meter applications Impact of infill or sprawl in Utrecht Network performance based on actual speeds Accessibility Index pagina 20
Impact of infill or sprawl in Utrecht (1) Scenario 1: Condense in the city Scenario 2: Urban sprawl Click on the zones where you want to build houses. The MOVE Meter calculates trips and divides them over the region Jul-15
Impact of infill or sprawl in Utrecht (2) Increase of traffic when condensing Increase when spreading Building in the city induces an increase of (shorter) car trips Jul-15
The use of the Accessibility Indicator (BBI) AM arrivals PM arrivals pagina 24 9-Jul-15
Den Haag Centre : AM arrivals and road sections with congestion based on actual data pagina 25 9-Jul-15
Monitoring using actual speeds 2013 and 2014 including travel times pagina 27
5. Technical data pagina 29
Difference with other transport modeling tools Web based (you can use any PC/laptop anywhere); Easy to use (no need to know Transport Planning Software); Quick scenario analyses; Based on data from your own Transportation Model; Scenario analyses ready after minutes. pagina 30
Why is the MOVE meter so fast? Zones in the original model 1. The MOVE Meter works with less zones. It aggregates data from zones that are further away from the area you have pointed out as focus area. The MOVE meter aggregates data outside the focus area. 2. The MOVE meter focuses on the issues addressed. So when you want to assign an OD-matrix to get an idea of the effects on V/C ratios, the MOVE Meter assigns the OD matrix without calculating new speeds or changes in modal split. pagina 31
