3 Ομηρική εποχή ονομάζεται η ιστορική περίοδος από το 1100 π.χ. έως το 750 π.χ. γιατί οι πληροφορίες για αυτήν την περίοδο προέρχονται - εκτός από την αρχαιολογική σκαπάνη από τα ομηρικά έπη: την Ιλιάδα και την Οδύσσεια. Έχει χαρακτηριστεί επίσης ως ελληνικός μεσαίωνας ή σκοτεινοί χρόνοι, γιατί παλαιότερα θεωρούσαν οι ιστορικοί την περίοδο αυτή, εποχή παρακμής. Σήμερα θεωρείται η ομηρική περίοδος μία περίοδος ανασυγκρότησης και οργανωτικής δημιουργίας του ελληνικού πολιτισμού.
4 Κατά την ομηρική περίοδο παρατηρείται η λεγόμενη Οι Δωριείς είναι το τέταρτο ελληνικό φύλο που κατέρχεται στον ελληνικό χώρο. Η επικρατέστερη άποψη υποστηρίζει ότι οι Δωριείς προέρχονται από τα βορειοδυτικά της οροσειράς της Πίνδου, οι οποίοι εκμεταλλεύτηκαν την γενικότερη αναστάτωση στον ελλαδικό χώρο μετά την παρακμή των μυκηναϊκών κέντρων και επικράτησαν στις περιοχές, όπου εγκαταστάθηκαν. Η κάθοδος αυτή συντελέσθηκε σε μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα και κατά κύματα. Πηγή εικόνας:
5 Η πρώτη περιοχή που εγκαταστάθηκαν οι Δωριείς, και έκτοτε φέρει το όνομά τους είναι η Δωρίδα στην Στερεά Ελλάδα. Πηγή εικόνας:
6 Από την Δωρίδα πέρασαν στην Πελοπόννησο και εγκαταστάθηκαν στην Αρκαδία, στην Αργολίδα και στην Λακωνία Πηγή εικόνας:

10 Η είσοδος των Δωριέων στη Πελοπόννησο, είχε το χαρακτήρα στρατιωτικής επιχείρησης με σκοπό την υποταγή των αχαϊκών και μυκηναϊκών πληθυσμών. Αργότερα οι Δωριείς ερμήνευσαν την κάθοδό τους στη Πελοπόννησο με τον μύθο της επανόδου των Ηρακλειδών, σύμφωνα με τον οποίο οι Δωριείς ως απόγονοι του Ηρακλή επέστρεψαν στην αρχαία τους κοιτίδα. Η μεγάλη συνέπεια της καθόδου των Δωριέων στον νότιο ελλαδικό χώρο ήταν οι μεγάλες μεταναστεύσεις των ελλαδικών πληθυσμών που έμειναν στην Ιστορία ως ο Α ελληνικός αποικισμός.

12 Οι Αιολείς μεταναστεύουν πιεζόμενοι από τους Θεσσαλούς προς τα νησιά Λέσβο και Τένεδο και αποικούν τα απέναντι μικρασιατικά παράλια. Η περιοχή γίνεται γνωστή με τα ονόματα Αιολίς, Αιολίδα, Αιολική Γη.
13 Οι Ίωνες μεταναστεύουν πιεζόμενοι από τους Δωριείς προς τα νησιά των Κυκλάδων, την Χίο, την Σάμο και την Ικαρία και αποικούν τα απέναντι μικρασιατικά παράλια, ιδρύοντας δώδεκα πόλεις. Η περιοχή γίνεται γνωστή με το όνομα Ιωνία. Επίκεντρό της το ιερό του Ποσειδώνα στο ακρωτήριο της Μυκάλης. Η θρησκευτική ένωση των πόλεων αυτών είναι το Πανιώνιο.
14 Οι Δωριείς επεκτάθηκαν ως κατακτητές ανατολικά προς τα νησιά Μήλο, Θήρα, την Κρήτη, τα Δωδεκάνησα και αποικούν τα απέναντι μικρασιατικά παράλια. Η περιοχή γίνεται γνωστή με το όνομα Δωρίδα. Επίκεντρό της ο ναός του Απόλλωνα στην Κνίδο. Οι Δωριείς ίδρυσαν την δωρική εξάπολη: Ιαλυσός, Κάμιρος, Λίνδος, Κως, Κνίδος και Αλικαρνασσός.
