8 Product 'BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark Standards for Post 16 Vocational Education and Training' Title: BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark Standards for Post 16 Vocational Education and Training Product Type: procedure for the analysis and prognosis of the vocational training requirement Marketing Text: VETO Dyslexia EU Project provided an effective platform to allow the BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark award to become accessible to partners engaged in vocational education, across Europe. It provided an opportunity for the BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark standards to be reviewed and adapted for use within the Vocational Education sector. However, more specifically, it has allowed the standards to be adapted and developed to ensure their accessibility within the differing social, political and educational settings within each of our partner counties, of Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Italy. Extensive research was conducted within each partner country to gain an understanding of the context of dyslexia and the support available to dyslexic learners. Details of our research findings and a full copy of the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark Standards (available in each partner language) can be found on our project website, Description: The BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark consists of a detailed set of standards that are to be achieved by the registered Vocational Educational and Training organisation. Achievement of these standards was recorded during a verification process in both hard copy evidence; such as policy documents, case study examples of good practice, as well as those practices observed during verification visits, such as classroom layout and activities that conformed to good dyslexia friendly practices and interviews with kay stakeholders such as learners and support staff. The Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark process provided a platform to promote existing good practice and a recognised structure to ensure that policy and practice within the VET organisation was conducive to supporting dyslexic learners. Change was brought about by reviewing performance against the standards that made up the award: 1. Effectiveness of Management Structure. 2. Identification of dyslexia / SpLD. 3. Effectiveness of Resources. 4. Continuing Professional Development. 5. Partnerships with learners, parents / carers and external agencies. All VET organisations engaged in the project completed this process and to have achieved their Quality Mark status in July Target group: It is recognised that good dyslexia friendly teaching practice is good practice for all. It's practices are conducive to the teaching and learning process ensuring accessibility for all. The Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark process fully supports this principle and the criteria that make up the award ensured that registered VET Organisations were fully competent across all areas of dyslexia friendly practice. As such our target groups consisted of the following: 1. The staff (teaching and non-vocational) within the registered VET organisations. The process for achieving the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark was seen as a whole organisation approach - raising knowledge and awareness of dyslexia for all members of staff, ensuring change to policy and practice to support the needs of the &prd=1 8
9 Product 'BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark Standards for Post 16 Vocational Education and Training' Target group: dyslexic learner, appropriate identification of SpLD, provision of dyslexia friendly teaching / support strategies, etc. 2. The Learner - helping them to understanding of their SpLD, access to teaching and learning strategies appropriate to their specific needs, access to appropriate support and guidance, etc. Result: The aim of the project was to introduce the BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark award within three VET Organisations in the UK and also within our partner countries of Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Italy. Dyslexia VETO EU Project was measured by the successful achievement of the Dyselxia Friendly Quality Mark by each registered VET Organisation within each partner country. Each of our partners from Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy and the UK, were responsible for recruiting three VET Organisations onto the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark process and guided them through the criteria in preparation for their verification in July The process for achieving the BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark through the VETO Project set the president for dissemination and sustainability, within the VET organisations and has made it easier for future dyslexic learners to be identified and supported in their learning. Area of application: The BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark standards provided the VET Organisation with detailed information on the process for achieving the award. The supporting documentation provided the VET Organisation with guidance and support on how to achieve each of the criteria stipulated. The standards also provided guidance for the VET Organisation to conduct a self-audit in order to gauge where they were in the process and what remained to be done in order to achieve the award. The standards were translated into each partner language (Hungarian, Bulgarian, Romanian and Italian) and adaptations to the criteria have been made to ensure that they are appropriate to the legislative and organisations situations experienced within these settings. Each partner organisation idenitied 3 VET Organisations to undertake the adapted DFQM, awareness and supporting strategy training was conducted with members of staff within each of the VET Organisations and included instructions in the use of the project profiler. All participating VET Organisations successully achieved the DFQM, relevant to thier country, by close of the project in September Product Languages: Romanian &prd=1 9
