System 800xA Networks Control. Monitor. Communicate.
It's all about reliability Control of your network infrastructure is of great importance to ensure high performance of System 800xA. To achieve this, the choice of network equipment is a fundamental building block. Modern control systems heavily depend on reliable, robust and secure networks. Network equipment enables clients to communicate with servers and controllers to obtain information from the field. 2 Networks ABB System 800xA
Trends in network technology In addition to the traditional Ethernet communications from operator workstations to controllers, there's been an increase in Ethernet-based fieldbus networks to communicate to field equipment. Fieldbus protocols such as PROFINET, IEC 61850, Ethernet/IP and MODBUS TCP/IP are being used to communicate to lower level PLCs, smart transmitters, valve actuators, and even electrical equipment. Using fieldbus solutions allows for not only reduced wiring and installation costs, but they allow for more detailed diagnostic information to be attained. There is also an increased need to enhance industrial cyber security. This is because the automation industry is leveraging more standard IT infrastructure, systems are growing in size, and there are more IT focused criminal organizations. Security, confidentiality and resistance are 800xA's foundation. The need for mobile solutions is on the rise. Operators and field engineers want to have quick access to control system data regardless of time and space. We see more protocols, more redundancy solutions, VLANs, Quality of Service, and the like. As a result, the network equipment becomes more difficult to configure. This extends the knowledge required to set up the architecture correctly, which increases the risk that equipment and systems get misconfigured. 800xA Networks provide pre-configured network components that are tested with 800xA to ensure top quality performance and provide protection against cyber threats. ABB System 800xA Networks 3
To plug or not to plug? Today engineers spend significant amounts of time configuring automation networks. 800xA Networks enables tailor-made network architectures, yet with easily installed pre-configured wired components. This allows teams to focus on increasing production, rather than optimizing networks. 800xA Networks - the benefits: Preconfigured for 800xA results in increased engineering and commissioning efficiency, as well as reduced risk of misconfiguration, thereby increased uptime. Integrated detail status monitoring and alarming enables users to identify potential risk areas and future issues at an early stage. Potential issues get detected before they turn into an actual problem; increased uptime. The portfolio is specifically developed for 800xA and all components are fully supported by ABB, including pre-sale and lifecycle support, and technical documentation. The network components are physically robust and of long life-duration. High MTBF figures ensures long service life. 100% reliable network even when a media break occurs. The 800xA wired network equipment includes the following switches: 19 port rack-mounted switch 19 port DIN-mounted switch 10 port DIN-mounted switch 5 port DIN-mounted unmanaged switch The managed rack-mounted switch is primarily intended for use in the client/server network. Redundancy can be achieved using RNRP and two totally separated networks. The large DIN-mounted switch for use in field networks can either be used in cases when many ports are needed, as well as for back-bone rings where 4 optical ports are needed. The smaller DIN-mounted switch is suitable in situations where there is a need for fewer ports, but also for subrings where only 2 fiber ports are needed. There is also an unmanaged/ managed switch for small systems, situations when monitoring is not required and when ring redundancy is not needed. Using this equipment, full redundancy can be achieved, and single point of failure avoided. Wired 800xA Networks equipment 4 Networks ABB System 800xA
A distributed wireless network deployment includes mobile equipment and possibilities for remote operations. Wireless networks are an efficient way to deploy distributed network topologies. ABB s wireless networks integrate seamlessly in your control system. Tropos Wireless Mesh routers for System 800xA 800xA Tropos wireless mesh routers deliver robust IP networks for industrial automation applications. The mesh technology and the Tropos Predictive Wireless Routing Protocol (PWRP) creates a architecture with no single point of failure. Gateway routers are connected to the wired Ethernet backhaul and node routers create a wireless mesh network. Benefits of wireless networks: Allows you to expand into areas previously out of physical reach Enable mobile workforce Many applications over one network Network performance management increases throughput and capacity, lowers latency Wireless 800xA Networks equipment ABB System 800xA Networks 5

800xA Mobility The use of mobile devices in industrial facilities is now widely accepted and can provide tremendous value to dayto-day operations. Utilizing standard technologies, proper network design, and best practices, mobile devices can access the 800xA system over a secure wireless network. The 800xA Mobility solution is intended for production environment mobility where operators and production staff can view the process. Mobility is enabled through multiple wireless access points that also implement firewall functionality. Empower your mobile workforce with information and control when and where it is needed. Benefits with mobility Improved visibility into current plant status regardless of user s location. Remote monitoring and control for more efficient field operations and maintenance activities. Ability for subject matter experts, supervisors, and plant manager to see what they see reducing the time to correct problems. System 800xA has been designed with the possibility to perform your operations with mobile devices. This provides operators with more flexibility and remote control outside the control room.
