6 SENTIENT is a New York City based design and manufacturing company. We have created an acclaimed collection of original, contemporary and timeless furniture items. Additionally at SENTIENT we collaborate with the design community for the supply of bespoke furnishings and objects to the luxury residential, commercial and hospitality markets.

7 Handcrafted in Brooklyn, New York At Sentient we conceive, design, develop and fabricate all of our own ideas and products. Our ideas and designs have two main influences. Firstly, the wide choice and availability of sustainable hardwoods from forests of the North East and Midwest of the United States and secondly the decades of experience we have from making bespoke furniture for the New York City marketplace. Whether it s a three legged stool for a coffee shop or case goods installations for a 500 room hotel our designers and fabricators have done it all.

8 Joojay Armchair The SENTIENT Joojay armchair is the little sister of the Long Wool sofa. The upholstery is long wool from the sheep of Iceland. The structure is made using brass combined with reclaimed American oak boards showing nail holes, checking and other spectacular characteristics. Joojay a unique an example of SENTIENT s work crossing the line between design and art.

9 Caribou Lounge An original design statement from SENTIENT combining luxurious fur with American black walnut. The Caribou lounge chair uses Coyote fur which is soft and deep and has wide variation of colors and tones. The structure floats in a solid American black walnut frame which contrasts assuredly with the irregular shapes and variations of the fur. It is an iconic piece of furniture for use any setting.

11 Luxor Credenza An Elegant Credenza with Live-Edge Legs We like to mix different colors and materials. Sometimes it works and works really well. This is one of those moments. A high gloss black credenza with leather pulls. The angled sides are unusual in themselves but to add to that idea we decided to attach live -dge slabs to outside of the structure. The final composition is a delicate floating combination of manmade laminates and timeless live-edge slabs.

12 New Old Dresser A Timeless Design Statement The SENTIENT New Old dresser would look great in a Park Avenue apartment and at the same time also look great in chic Tribeca boutique hotel. It can be made using a variety of materials and finishes. It is shown using solid walnut, walnut veneer and reclaimed American oak.

13 Orbit A Sculpture Like Design That Can Be Used As A Bench, Storage Unit Or Console The Orbit is a contemporary modern, almost sculpture like, design that combines the strong rectilinear lines of the external structure with a striking oval shaped multi functional internal space. It can serve as a bench for up to three people or a TV console or perhaps a stylish storage unit for all types of objects. The SENTIENT Orbit collection is shown using ambrosia maple with its distinctive gray coloring. It available in most hardwoods and also with a variety of materials for the elliptical face.

14 Nersi Sofa An Assured Sofa with Soft Curves Upholstered from Top to Bottom This is a sophisticated piece of upholstered furniture that is very gentle and pleasing to the eye. Under that delicate pallet is a complicated structure requiring experience and master craftsmanship in carpentry and upholstery, gained by many years supplying the New York and Tristate area custom furniture markets.

15 Long Wool Sofa, Furniture As Art The SENTIENT Furniture Long Wool sofa is so much more than a sofa. It is as much a superb piece of design as a wonderful piece of art. The upholstery is long wool from the sheep of Iceland. The structure is made using reclaimed American oak boards showing nail holes, checking and other spectacular characteristics. The combination of the wild and chaotic Icelandic long wool upholstery with the warm honey colors of the timeless reclaimed oak make the SENTIENT Long Wool sofa truly unique. Dimensions 96 x 42 x 40

17 Sapience Chair & Bench The SENTIENT Sapience Chair is an elegant geometric structure. This comfortable chair has two diamond shaped vertical supports joined by a clean horizontal seat and an angled back rest. Remarkably even though the chair is comprised entirely from geometric shapes it has a sense of character and rhythm such that the end result is as much an elegant sculpture as a geometric structure. As the name suggests, the Sapience chair is the result of many years of experience and wisdom! It is also available as a bench. The Sapience collection is made from solid woods and wood veneers. It is available in a variety of hardwoods and finishes and also has a variety of upholstery options

18 Conceive Design and Create At SENTIENT we are continually creating and developing our designs and products. Whether its a traditional design or an entirely new idea we are capable of conceiving, designing and creating. Thats is what we are all about.

19 American Chair Dry some some American black walnut and hard maple boards. Hand carve the seat and backrest. Turn some walnut and maple spindles on the lathe. Join them all together and to create a beautiful American Chair.

20 Locust Wood Chair A Unique Accent Chair Using The Natural Shapes And Contours of The Locust Wood Log. The SENTIENT Locust Wood chair maybe design by serendipity as much as any other creative method. Regardless, we found a unique use for a bias cut locust wood slab creating the back and leg of a live-edge chair. Adding the curved seat and splayed and tapered legs has resulted in an eye catching conversation piece.

21 Live-Edge SENTIENT s live-edge tables and other designs are made using sustainably sourced American black walnut, maple, figured maple, hard maple, spalted maple, cherry, white oak, oak and other hardwoods. Finishes are applied with care to provide protective coatings and also to accentuate the many colors, grain patterns and effects found in many of these wood species. We use wood that has been air dried followed up with kiln drying. Depending on the size and thickness of the wood sometimes the drying process may have taken up to three years from the time the tree was felled until the wood is ready to be worked on our benches.

25 Colorado Live-Edge Table A Contemporary Modern Table Including The Timelessness of A Live-Edge Slab The colors and design of the SENTIENT Colorado table suggest the Southwest United States. The glass filled gap between the inverted edges of a live-edge spalted maple slab suggest a great river and the darkened V -shaped legs speak of a canyon. There are oversized butterfly leg connectors tying the minimalist leg design that is capable of supporting a table of 10 feet or more in length. This table is also available in walnut or other hardwoods on request.

26 Single Slab Live-Edge Table The Contemporary And Timeless Single Slab Live-Edge Table The SENTIENT Single Slab live-edge table is made using a single cut or slice from the trunk of the tree. The lion s share of the work to produce a stunning American black walnut live-edge table has been undertaken by nature. The colors, grains and other spectacular characteristics have been formed through the decades and centuries of growth. Each tree and each live-edge table is not only beautiful but is also unique.

27 Center Joined Walnut Live-Edge Table The SENTIENT Center Joined walnut live-edge table is made by attaching two matching walnut slabs from the same wood stand with a tight center join. This type of table top provides greater flexibility to create a live-edge table in a specific size and/or shape. Like the single slab style, each center joined table is unique.

28 MB (Multiple Board) Walnut Live-Edge Table The SENTIENT MB (Multiple Boards) walnut liveedge table is made by inserting three or more hand picked solid walnut boards between solid liveedges. This table is created and fabricated at the same high level of quality and attention to detail and is also available with the same leg and other choices as the single slab and center join tables.

29 A Plethora of Table Styles At SENTIENT, we supply a wide variety of styles and designs other than live-edge. They can be circular, and we have many pedestal options, or rectangular tables made from oak, maple, cherry and many more wood species. Additionally SENTIENT has supplied many restaurants with a variety of dining tables. We also provide may corporations with large conference tables including electrical and audio visual outlets and other special requirements.

33 Zora Coffee Table A Unique Locust Wood Coffee Table The SENTIENT Zora coffee table is a modernistic design combining a bias cut locust slab on a white cantilevered base. We love timelessness, and in the Zora coffee table the clock may be pointed to the future at some distant galaxy!

34 Foothills TV Console Walnut Live-Edge And Glass Console The SENTIENT Foothills console is a design that combines a strong reassuring walnut live-edge slab supporting a tempered glass shelf. The geometric columns carrying the glass shelf combined with the natural wood base make this both contemporary and timeless at the same time.

35 SENTIENT Live-Edge Bed A Luxurious Live-Edge Floating Platform Bed with Or without Leather The SENTIENT live-edge floating platform bed combines a solid American black walnut headboard with a selection of soft leathers. The customer has the option of adding night stands attached directly onto the headboard. The design is also available without leather.

38 Contract and Commercial The hospitality and design industry have taken notice. Our work is found in many hotels, restaurants and commercial settings. We can fabricate to the designers drawings or assist with the design to create a desired style and aesthetic. Our workshops have fabricated furniture and installations for many luxury brands including Movado, British Airways, Cartier, Donna Karan, Viacom, Marriott, Hyatt and also signature design firms such as Ian Schrager, Rockwell and Gensler Architects.
